Chapter 1249. Blue Guild’s Youth Center (18)

A flashy, but useless spell was unleashed from Felis Hanest’s hand. It was the epitome of inefficiency–so much so that people would reject it even if someone offered it for free. The inefficiency of the spell meant it consumed a great deal of mana. Previously, he had only ever managed to summon a single griffon, but now, two had appeared. In that sense, he had broken past the wall that held him back.

‘Damn it, why are you the one who awakened?’

The one who was meant to awaken wasn’t him, and I was supposed to be the star here.

'Why did you...'

“Destroy them all! Whitefall! Blackburn!” Felis commanded.

I[1] saw Felis Hanest shouting and pushing his hand forward.

At his gesture, Whitefall and Blackburn flew toward the twins. Watching his spell unfold, I understood why Whitefall was necessary. Whitefall was slow but carried immense energy, while Blackburn was fast but wasn't really powerful.

The spell could only show as much power as the mana he had poured into it, but it was clear that Whitefall was the core of his spell.

“What the hell is that?! Damn it!”

‘I don’t know either, damn it.’

“What do we do about this? Noona?” the male twin asked.

‘Seriously. What do we do?’

“Wh-What do we do about this?” asked the male twin.

‘Are you asking me?’

He was actually asking me. It seemed the twins didn't have the talent to improvise things in a fast-paced action scene. Honestly, I was planning on giving Myung-Won a bit of spotlight, but...

‘Maybe this isn’t so bad.’

To keep the story flowing naturally, Felis Hanest’s awakening didn’t seem all that out of place. I nodded earnestly a few times, and the twins finally moved forward.

Hmph. You must’ve forgotten about me," I said, assuming my stance again. This time, I lashed out with a kick. The kick itself looked a bit awkward, but the Flames of the Black Ember Dragon effect were still swirling around me, which helped cover up my sloppy movements.

Aaaah!” the twins screamed.

Tch.

“Noona, we have to leave,” the male twin said.

“How absurd,” the female twin said.

“The plan has changed. We can’t afford to waste any more time here. Sooner or later, the Blue Guild is going to show up,” said the male twin.

Hmph. You think I’m scared of them?” the female twin replied.

“Stay focused on the mission, noona. Capturing them isn’t our only mission. We need to stay calm and think this through,” the male twin reminded her.

“Damn it... Having these kids as our opponent...” the female twin mumbled.

“Noona...”

“Shit...”

“They’re going to die anyway, noona,” the male twin remarked.

“...”

“...”

Whoo...

“...”

“Yeah... you’re right. There’s no need to get worked up over a bunch of little kids,” she said.

“...”

“You’re all going to die, anyway, so I’ll let you in on a little secret. The Blue Guild’s about to get annihilated. Keke...” the female twin said, giggling.

Obviously, in reality, villains as kind and considerate as these two didn’t exist. Besides, what kind of villain would tell an enemy their plan? That kind of character wouldn't appear even in comics or novels, but I had to dumb things down for the kids. Plus...

‘It’s getting tiring...’

I was in a child’s body, so I was getting exhausted faster than usual. Under normal circumstances, this amount of physical activity wouldn’t bother me, but I found myself wanting to take a break.

Since rushing the plot was inevitable, pushing the story slightly forward was probably the right call here.

“What... do you mean?” I asked.

“Who knows? What do you think? Think of the 27th Legion Summoning Incident, and maybe you’ll understand what I'm saying,” said the female twin.

“You guys aren’t... No way!” I shouted.

“Then what did you think I meant? Keke. Anyway, we’ll take our leave here. I’d like to play a bit more, but I’m pretty busy. Let’s go,” said the female twin.

“Okay, noona.'

“This isn’t personal. It’s all for the greater good,” the female twin added.

“Stop right there! Shit!” I shouted.

And just like that, the twins vanished like the wind.

Things got a bit messy, but it ended on a rather heroic note.

As if on cue, I collapsed to the ground, and I heard people calling my name. The trios were already bawling their eyes out, and it wasn’t just them. The kids from the Republic, the Democratic Country, the Union, and the Federation were all crying uncontrollably.

Everyone went through the same harrowing experience, so no one had any hostility toward each other. They understood that now wasn’t the time for pointless power struggles.

This was the time to unite and overcome a common threat. Even those who hadn’t been able to do much and those who only helped a little all had the same determined light in their eyes.

Of course, among them was Felis Hanest, who had just put on a decent performance.

“Are you okay?” Felis asked.

“Yeah,” Kim Myung-Won replied.

He had to have experienced a change of heart, as he helped Kim Myung-Won up to his feet and asked him how he was doing. Afterward, he walked toward me.

The kids from the Republic looked a little nervous, but I was surprised when he quietly lowered his head toward me.

“Thanks,” Felis said.

I was sure that was the best he could do.

‘At least he’s polite.’

I was sure that was his way of admitting that he was feeling entitled or was prejudiced against me until now. What followed was no surprise. Felis Hanest didn’t seem like he was trying to act like a leader, but he naturally took the initiative and guided the others.

Perhaps he realized that I needed time to rest...

“Let’s head to the infirmary for now. Mr. Jin Young’s injuries need treatment as soon as possible, and I’m sure they have some of Father Lee Ki-Young's potions there,” Felis suggested.

“Okay.”

After guiding the kids to the infirmary, he turned to the baby fox, Slava. This was an unimaginable sight yesterday, and I confirmed that upon hearing Victor Galia say, “To think I’d live to see the day when that guy is actually talking to the baby fox...”

Felis' attitude was actually bizarre.

“First, we need to regroup with the students from the other departments,” Felis suggested.

“Is that right?” I asked.

“There should be priest-class students near the infirmary, and the vanguards should be around the training grounds...” Felis said.

“That sounds like work...” I commented.

“If we pull off a summoning spell, we can use summoned beasts to let the others know that we’re here. If that’s not an option, we’ll have no choice but to send out a separate team...” Felis said.

“I think I can try that.”

Things were progressing quickly and efficiently. Of course, there were still some problems. Many students were still trembling with fear, and it seemed that no one could easily bring up the heavy topic the twins had mentioned—the 27th Legion Summoning Incident.

The students from the Federation, which was the nation that suffered the most from that incident, were shaking like aspen trees. Some of them even looked like they were going to have a panic attack.

No matter how heavy the topic was, the time to face it had come. Kim Myung-Won, Felis Hanest, Aryl Baker, Xiaolan, Victor Galia, and several other students determined to fight surrounded me.

“I want to ask for your opinion, Jin Young,” Felis said.

“...”

“About what those guys meant, and... what we’re supposed to do next,” Felis continued.

“...”

“If what they’re referring to is truly the return of the 27th Legion Summoning Incident, then they must be planning to use the students here as sacrifices,” Feli added.

“...”

“There’s no need to debate or overthink it. It’s pretty obvious. The important thing is what we do next,” Felis remarked.

Xiaolan nodded and said, “We should try to find a way to break through the barrier.”

“Barrier?”

"Yes, I'm sure we're inside a barrier right now, and we need to find the core of the barrier somewhere in the academy. The barrier is strong enough to prevent entry from the outside, but breaking out of it from the inside is a different story.

"The members of the Blue Guild are probably waiting for us outside. We just have to find the core of the barrier, and whether it's the God of Spear, the Archmage, or someone else, they would be able to come here and sort things out," Xiaolan explained.

“Why don’t we try to find the professors?” Slava asked.

“Based on the situation, the professors were probably attacked—”

“No, I’m sure that's not the case. There are people like Professor Cheon Kwan-Wi here, and isn’t it strange? Despite all this chaos, I can't hear any noises from within the depths of the academy...” Felis pointed out.

“You’re right...”

“I haven't seen any mist or anything else. Maybe the professors are trapped within some kind of barrier as well,” Slava said.

“That would make sense,” Xiaolan commented.

“They might be sealed in their own labs... or they can't fight for some reason. If we manage to rescue the professors... the Moon Breakers won’t be able to just stand by and watch us,” Felis said.

Many opinions were being exchanged, but it seemed necessary to bring some order to the conversation. As many ideas flowed out of their mouths, I lightly tapped the desk, drawing everyone’s attention.

“I’m sure the Moon Breakers have already left.”

“What?”

“I’ve heard about them. The Six Stars are trying to summon a demon through human sacrifice, which is why the Moon Breakers exist. They're everywhere, from the Republic, the Federation, the borders of the Union, to even the far North.

"They probably hadn't expected them to move this fast. As we've heard, their goal is to summon a legion rivaling the 27th Legion,” I explained.

“The spell isn’t meant to be cast on people. It’s the kind of spell that sacrifices an entire region as the offering. Those who came here merely broke in to activate that magic circle. The best option is to use us directly as sacrifices, but for some reason, their plan fell apart.

"While it’s less stable... it was still a reasonable choice for them. Even if it fails, they’ll achieve their goal of inflicting damage on the continent’s future generation...” I added.

“Professor Traore,” Kim Myung-Won said.

“What are you saying?” Xiaolan asked.

“He was an accomplice,” I answered.

“...”

“Those who left the lecture hall earlier probably didn’t hear this, but Professor Traore is definitely one of their accomplice. Since he has a license to cast forbidden spells, that is certainly possible,” I added.

“Damn it! That filthy bastard!” Victor shouted.

“He’s scum, but our job isn’t to sit around here and trash talk him,” I said.

“...”

“The fact that the Moon Breakers have already left is an opportunity for us. Of course, facing Professor Traore won’t be easy, but it’s better than just sitting here and dying quietly. As soon as we join up with the other students, we should form a special squad and take down Professor Traore,” I said.

“Th-That’s...”

“No matter what they do, I’m going to get him,” I added.

“...”

“Only those who are willing to fight should come with us. If you’re too afraid to join, I won’t blame you,” I told them.

The infirmary fell silent in an instant.

Of course, everyone was afraid. The idea of mere students going up against Professor Traore, a master of numerous forbidden spells, was just absurd. It wasn’t simply death that awaited them.

They could die while experiencing pain beyond comprehension.

A few students began to back away, but...

“I don’t know if I’ll be helpful, but I’ll join you,” Kim Myung-Won said.

The guy with Blue Guild’s DNA stepped up first, creating a memorable scene that would always appear in movies.

“I’ll join you as well, Mr. Jin Young,” Victor said. Wiping away his tears, he took a step forward.

“Me, too. It’s only natural that I join you,” Xiaolan said, raising her hand.

“I probably won’t be much help... but I’ll come with you.”

The other extras joined as well.

“I’m going, too.”

A guy whose name was unknown to me even stepped up to join.

“I’ll go... as well. We can’t turn the Democratic Country... into another Federation,” said the talented kids from the Federation.

“I’ll go, too!”

The annoying nobles...

“I’ll do it... even if it costs me my life. I can’t bring disgrace to my family’s honor...”

Even the class clown stepped up to join.

“I can’t let you guys be the only ones dying. Haha. I’m in whether you like it or not!”

I ought to cry in a situation like this.

“You guys...” I mumbled.

Just like that, everyone clenched their fists with tears streaming down their faces. Felis Hanest had rivers of tears running down his face. He was crying so much that it was almost too much to watch.

He was so caught up in the moment that it seemed like he wasn't planning on wiping away his tears.

“We’re not friends, but...” I paused.

“...”

“At least we can die together,” I added.

I raised my fist lightly, and everyone responded by bumping their fists against mine.

It was a classic scene and was full of that old-school romance.

‘If Hyung-Sung and I met each other back in school, he wouldn’t have to go to the hospital...’
