Chapter 105: Duel I
Mu Liufeng stared at the oil stains left on the sleeves of his robe with a resigned look on his face. He sighed helplessly then proceeded to take another meat bun from the oiled paper bag. He took a huge bite out of this freshly stolen bun, walked over to the watching platform where all the teachers were and took his seat next to White Stone Academy’s principal.
Mu Liufeng sat down and continued to contend himself with the remaining meat buns as he silently kept his eyes trained on the fighting ring. The principal turned his plump face to take a closer look at something that caught his attention from the corner of his eye. There were oil stains on Mu Liufeng’s sleeve as though someone had wiped their fingers on it. The sight of this sent howling shock waves through the principal’s heart. Did he see it wrong? Mu Liufeng, the clean freak, had actually allowed someone else to wipe their greasy hands on his sleeve? One needed to know that Mu Liufeng bathed twice a day, made sure to use two sets of clothing a day and even put on musk. The last time someone accidentally spilt tea on him, that someone was swatted directly against a wall. Now, here Mu Liufeng was, using his bare hands to hold a meat bun he was eating and even allowing Ling Chuxi to use his sleeve as a dishcloth.
What exactly made Ling Chuxi so extraordinary that Mu Lifeng viewed her differently from others? The principal rubbed his eyes and refocused his attention on the fighting ring within which Ling Chuxi now stood. He wanted to observe properly and see for himself what made Ling Chuxi so extraordinary.
At present, Ling Chuxi’s face was calm as she surveyed the fighting ring. She looked at Lan Xinyu quietly with an imposing expression and slowly called out to her in a serious tone, “Lan Xinyu.”
Lan Xinyu was stunned. It seemed as though this was the first time Ling Chuxi had called out her name in such a serious manner. Her heart shivered even as she subconsciously replied, “What’s the matter?”
“Come on, then. Today you’ll lose so badly, even your grandfather won’t be able to recognize you,” said Ling Chuxi deliberately with a slight smile.
Lan Xinyu was duly provoked and was about to explode from anger at the sound of these words. Without saying anything in reply, she lashed out the golden whip by her waist. She didn’t bother waiting for the adjudicating teacher to officiate the start of the duel before she attacked Ling Chuxi.
The students by the fighting ring were taken aback by how Lan Xinyu snuck an attack like that without any regard for the rules. As Ling Chuxi’s words entered Lan Xinyu’s ears, she almost spat out blood due to her anger. Only the teachers who stood nearby and those with strong cultivation had heard Ling Chuxi’s words clearly. Watching Lan Xinyu being condemned as such made them feel pangs of pity for her. What a woeful sight. Ling Chuxi was truly a master of angering people to death without compensating with her life.
Seeing Lan Xinyu’s golden whip, Ling Chuxi’s smile merely broadened ever so slightly as she drew the Luo Chen Sword and calmly met her attack.
No one noticed Master Lan sitting in silence behind the watching platform. He observed the duel between the two young maidens without blinking. Given Master Lan’s ability level, he clearly heard Ling Chuxi’s provocative words that were uttered in all seriousness. He also saw his own granddaughter’s reactive impulsive performance. He shook his head lightly. His own granddaughter was truly too green. Regarding matters of the mind, she wasn’t even worth Ling Chuxi’s little finger in comparison.
Lan Xinyu bellowed in rage as she launched attacks with the golden whip in her hand at such a dizzying speed that one’s head spun at the sight. The golden whip sliced through the air as it glimmered with the white light of Lan Xinyu’s Battle Qi.
From the start of the battle till its end, Ling Chuxi had a calm smile on her face. She countered every strike with her sword in smooth movements. White light emitted from her and spilt forth right then. Its glow didn’t seem to be any weaker than Lan Xinyu’s Battle Qi light. If anything, it was brighter!
The sight of this left everyone watching shocked. Ling Chuxi’s cultivation wasn’t the least bit worse as compared to Lan Xinyu’s at all! It was even stronger! Lan Xinyu was known as a peerless genius and was already at Battle Qi Level 7 Primary at the tender age of seventeen. Ling Chuxi was only sixteen this year, but she had already reached Battle Qi Level 7 Primary. By the time she turned seventeen next year, Ling Chuxi would definitely be even stronger!
