SORCERER: I WANT TO BE AN ACADEMIC PRODIGY
Chapter 479 - 477: Taking the InitiativeChapter 479: Chapter 477: Taking the Initiative
In days past, the School of Space had tried countless teleportation facilities: dual towers, teleportation gates, Transmission Towers, and array daises, none of which were without flaws or shortcomings.
The maximum distance was six thousand meters.
But no matter which type of teleportation endeavor, they lacked the necessary stability and had resulted in the deaths of enchanters from the School of Space.
Even wizards who mastered the knowledge of space could not avoid the risk of death; others were all the more vulnerable under the influence of the Power of Space, with possibilities of being cut, crushed, or exiled—mismanage the teleportation, and one could simply disappear.
Thus, these initiatives all lacked universality and were one by one set aside.
“Six thousand meters, I’ve noted it.”
…
“I’m not saying this to pressure you, take it slow, no rush; this isn’t a problem that needs to be solved within a few months or years. For us sorcerers, time is never a major issue.”
When Ivan mentioned that the follow-up research would be entrusted to Arcane Wizards, seeing his magnanimity, Doradoli couldn’t help but talk a bit more and also discussed the issues they encountered with the teleportation array.
The biggest issue was the stability of teleportation.
Once the distance exceeded six thousand meters, aside from the Arcane Wizard themselves, others could die due to the instability of teleportation, making various teleportation facilities seem futile.
“I understand, but I might need to stay in Sky Flow Valley for a long while,” Ivan said.
“Why don’t you simply take a position in Sky Flow Valley? I’ll arrange everything else and ensure you’re satisfied,” Doradoli immediately suggested.
“Indeed, with your capabilities, staying in Sky Flow Valley would promise greater achievements. Returning to the Chaina Continent Eastern Capital would be a waste of your talent; why not just stay here?” Moxiu strongly agreed with this.
If President Hardy knew that the moment he left, these two would take the opportunity to undermine him, he would probably rush back nonstop.
Ivan laughed wryly upon hearing this; with his current situation, whether or not he took a position in Sky Flow Valley made no difference—why bother stirring up trouble?
After much persuading, he dismissed the ideas of Doradoli and the other.
“You’re right; whether or not I take a position in Sky Flow Valley is not important. By the way, do you need me to arrange a different place for you to stay?”
“No need, the tower I’m in is quite good.”
Ivan also rejected the proposal to change his residence.
His current dwelling, a two-story Round Tower, might look unremarkable from the outside, but it was actually quite nice in all aspects. The area was spacious after the spatial expansion, much better than the residences of Angus and others.
“Ivan, do you have a specific target in mind for how many meters you want to extend it to? If it’s too short, it won’t do justice to your reputation as a scholar from the Eastern Capital. You could switch to being a scholar of Sky Flow Valley; we also have a position available here, and it’s even more prestigious, hahaha.”
Moxiu posed a critical question, purely out of curiosity, and spoke in an extraordinarily casual tone.
“One thousand meters is a threshold, five thousand meters is a significant threshold.”
Ivan understood what Moxiu’s superior meant; this was a question that could be answered or ignored, so he didn’t rush to get to the main point.
During his contemplation, he glanced at the team members who had already started bustling around. Due to the force field isolation, those people couldn’t hear the conversation here and were busy with their tasks.
After pausing for several seconds, he slowly expressed:
“For now, I aim for twenty thousand meters, striving to reach thirty thousand meters. In any case, we will do our utmost to extend the teleportation distance as far as possible while maintaining stability, until it’s no longer feasible.”
“That’s ambitious. You don’t have to worry about the venue; we’ll arrange everything for you.”
Moxiu’s eyes brightened, his opinion of Ivan rising once again.
Knowing the difficulties of extending the teleportation distance, yet daring to say such a thing, truly an extraordinary person doing extraordinary things; it was just unfortunate that he couldn’t be fully drawn to stay in Sky Flow Valley.
“Additionally, there’s something I need to report to you in advance.”
Ivan thought of another matter, silently weighing it in his mind for a long time, now ready to speak it all at once.
“Go ahead.”
“Once the research goal is achieved, I intend to seek recognition from the King of the Long Sky; I hope you will allow this.”
When they heard this, both Doradoli and Moxiu were momentarily stunned, a hint of surprise in their eyes, only Hotter understood internally.
“What’s the reason? I don’t remember you being someone who seeks accolades from the superiors.”
“The superior’s insight is penetrating; indeed, there are other hidden reasons involving Tanaya—”
Ivan then revealed Tanaya’s predicament; by now, members of the Fitzgerald family and the Gardner Family had arrived, and it looked like the situation might deteriorate.
He decided to seize the opportunity to take the initiative and see if he could gain more support from the Sky Flow Valley side, with no loss if unsuccessful.
In fact, Hotter had not concealed it from him privately, having informed him some time ago about the other side sending someone.
The reason he played this high-profile act today was largely to deal with the pressure brought by Fitzgerald and Gardner, hoping to buy some more time through this.
“Haha, so that’s it.”
Doradoli and Moxiu exchanged glances, the former loudly said: “As long as you are in Sky Flow Valley, within this research team, no one can even think of taking her away, these are my words, Doradoli.”
“That’s a good saying, but there is one exception,” Moxiu added from the side.
“What?” Ivan asked, instinctively.
“If the King of the Long Sky himself comes.”
After pausing for several seconds, Moxiu suddenly laughed, his words ringing with conviction.
“Ivan is here to thank both esteemed ones for their protection on behalf of Tanaya.” Ivan realized that Moxiu’s final comment was made in jest, was not offended, and hastily expressed his gratitude.
Sky Flow Valley could be said to be Doradoli and Moxiu’s territory.
With both of them personally vouching, even the Fitzgerald family and the Gardner Family wouldn’t dream of forcibly taking someone away. Of course, this was only temporary and not a permanent solution.
Ever since Ivan had spoken of Tanaya’s situation, both looked at him with meaningful expressions.
Nothing was said, yet it seemed as if everything had been spoken aloud.
Ivan knew that such matters were mostly indefinable, so he simply didn’t bother to explain. His relationship with Tanaya wasn’t what the two of them thought.
Soon after, Doradoli and Moxiu left the area where the Tower of Return was located.
Watching the two leave, Hotter immediately praised eagerly,
“Ivan, well done, so you had a plan all along.”
“Just going with the flow,” Ivan replied.
“Going with the flow superbly, only you have that kind of influence. Believe it or not, if it had been me, those two would have been evasive and definitely wouldn’t have said what they just did.”
Hotter, aware of his own status and knowing he was one of the least influential among the Arcane Wizards, expressed,
“They misunderstood,” Ivan said with a slight grimace.
“Hehe, then just bear with it a bit. And then there’s Beiluo Gardner; considering his various expressions earlier, he probably also misunderstands your relationship with Tanaya,” Hotter playfully reassured.
“Misunderstood what?”
In the midst of speaking, Tanaya approached.
Someone had come to the house, and Hardy had already covertly notified and warned her; she came over to discuss countermeasures with them.
“It’s about a relationship, your relationship with Ivan, someone misunderstood.”
Hotter, thinking of something, inevitably asked with concern, “Tanaya, be honest, have you been in contact privately with that fiancé of yours?”
He knew Ivan’s character, who was tender-hearted rather than tough.
Once he found out that Tanaya was being too clever by half, he might very well stop cooperating, and if he didn’t cooperate or went against their plans, that would really complicate things.
“He contacted me once, and I merely told him I had someone I liked and hoped he wouldn’t pester me anymore, that’s all; I never mentioned Ivan,”
Tanaya nodded her head then shook her head, not hiding, but revealing her conversation with Beiluo.
“Are you sure?” Hotter repeated.
“Of course, I always dare to act, I disdain underhanded tricks,” Tanaya responded with clear eyes and sharp words.
For others, it might be possible to be equivocal in speaking.
Tanaya’s character had always been forthright or rather, unusually proud, which made her words inherently believable.
“That being the case, Tanaya can’t be blamed,”
Hotter nodded, turned to Ivan and said, “If anyone’s to blame, it’s because of your own reputation, Ivan. Without anyone saying anything, they immediately concluded it was you.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t abandon what I promised,” Ivan, aware of what Hotter meant, casually waved his hand.
“How could we not trust you? We’re just worried you might overthink it.”
“I’ve done what needed to be done; you handle those two groups of people on your own, I’m not getting involved.”
“No problem, Tanaya will handle it, and even if worse comes to worst, I’m here to support. You just focus on developing the Tower of Return; we’re still waiting to be granted an audience with the King of the Long Sky.”
Seeing him say this, Ivan no longer lingered and headed towards the center of the area.
The plan was still in its first phase; there were second and third phases yet to come—there was much more to be done later. Having already boasted to the two esteemed ones just now, he naturally couldn’t relax.
“He—”
Seeing this, Tanaya opened her mouth but then didn’t know what to say.
“Ha ha, Ivan isn’t blaming you.”
“Let me tell you, just now when speaking with Doradoli and Moxiu, Ivan took the opportunity to mention your situation. Guess what? Ha ha, both sorcerers agreed immediately that as long as you stay in Sky Flow Valley, unless the Wind Ancestor himself comes down, no one can take you away.”
“Ha ha, no need to worry now, right?”
“Ivan is always reliable; he has already thoroughly considered your situation.”
“Let me tell you, for your sake, he even specifically made a pledge in front of the two sorcerers to extend the transmission distance of the Tower of Return to thirty thousand meters; you might not understand the significance of this distance, but currently—”
Hotter interrupted her directly then told her terrific news, spilling everything.
Hearing all this, Tanaya realized many things had happened just now, which immediately resolved her current worries.
Looking towards the person on the opposite side who was giving some instructions, her feelings became somewhat complex, her gaze unintentionally lingered there for a good while.
Nearby, Hotter’s face once again wore a smile, one that seemed to hold a hint of cunning.
