SORCERER: I WANT TO BE AN ACADEMIC PRODIGY
Chapter 577 - 575: The Situation Has ChangedChapter 577: Chapter 575: The Situation Has Changed
Old Tree Man Meg once said that one must search layer by layer downward in the Underground World, and in fact, that is exactly what he did with his own effort, stopping only upon discovering clues.
This time, under Meg’s guidance, the two traveled through a secret passage in the Northern Territory and arrived at the second layer of the Underground World.
“Do you know? The center of the Danaila World is underground, and the core of the underground is at its deepest.”
“Therefore, the deeper you go, the stronger the overall strength of the creatures.”
“This layer is home to the Snake People who have inherited the bloodline of the Titan Python, the Eyeless Giants of a Sub-Giant race, as well as the Fang Tribe, Blood Elves, Bat People, and so on. Unfortunately, they are all not as friendly as you, Sorcerer Ivan. I’ve had my share of hardships here before, but thankfully I was helped by other tree kin.”
Meg’s character leans toward the optimistic side; he did not dwell on the difficulties he had faced but enthusiastically introduced Ivan to the sights of the second layer of the Underground World.
As with the first layer, several powerful races act as overlords on this second layer, creating a relatively stable order.
Ivan just learned that it was on this layer that Meg transformed into a lord-level strong being. It is not hard to hear that Meg truly encountered many difficulties before becoming a lord, and it seems he was close to dying several times.
However, Meg had no intention of seeking revenge.
The two were merely passing through this layer and had no plans to provoke its overlords.
For lord-level powerhouses, avoiding the harassment of other creatures is a trivial matter.
After a long journey, the two safely arrived at the third layer of the Underground World.
Judging by the concentration and quality of energy particles, in line with Meg’s words, the environment becomes more bountiful the deeper you go.
Ivan also keenly noticed that the energy particles contained on the third layer had an additional distinct aura of desolation compared to the second and first layers.
“The creatures of this layer are mostly various strange beasts. Powerful beast lords have their own territories, but often fight over territories or treasures, leading to a more chaotic situation than the first and second layers.”
“We must proceed with caution.”
Seeing Meg emphasize this with such seriousness, Ivan dared not be negligent and became extremely vigilant.
Since they were traveling, the two naturally didn’t move step by step but took to the skies using various methods.
According to Meg, the place they were heading to was not far from the entrance of the passage, but what seemed odd to them was that the frequent conflicts that normally occurred on this layer seemed to be absent.
Their journey was unusually tranquil.
Upon nearing their destination, Ivan discovered that the situation was highly unusual. Everyone had come this way, and he also detected the traces of the Snake People, the Eyeless Giants, the Fang Tribe, and others.
“Meg, did you tell anyone about this?” Ivan asked, frowning.
“How could I? I definitely didn’t reveal any information about this place, I didn’t even tell you before. Besides, there’s nothing extraordinary about this place, in theory, it shouldn’t draw such powerful beings here.”
Meg was even more puzzled than him, truly unable to understand why so many powerful creatures were gathering here.
“Then there’s only one possibility, something must have changed here.” Ivan expressed helplessly.
“I’m afraid that’s the case.” Old Tree Man Meg nodded with a bitter smile.
At this moment, the two were on one side of a plain situated on high ground. The vegetation on the plain was not lush; the trees were short, with mostly vines, and in the high sky, a Solar God Bird perched.
One could see, around the high ground, both above and below, creatures of considerable strength were stationed here.
Ivan sharply sensed that there must be an Ancient King of Level 5 lurking here, casting a covetous eye on the inside of the plain, which was undoubtedly the most worrisome situation.
“Is our goal the center of the plain?”
“That’s right, it was in that center I discovered the clues last time. We have to head there this time as well.”
“There’s definitely some unusual disturbance here; let’s just wait and see what happens.”
Meg didn’t argue with Ivan’s suggestion.
If the two of them were to recklessly make their way to the center now, they’d likely become targets for all to strike at.
“That treeman over there, so you’re still alive, hahaha, you’ve made me search hard for you.” While they didn’t wish to cause more trouble, someone recognized Meg and harbored some evil intent.
The speaker was a Snake-Man.
Unlike the Snake-Men Ivan had imagined, this muscular Snake-Man had a green face with sharp fangs and a pair of thumb-sized pointed horns on his forehead, standing nearly thirty feet tall.
After recognizing Meg, the Snake-Man warrior slithered his thick serpent body towards them.
“He calls himself ‘Bach,’ and for no reason tried to seize my heart last time, nearly burning me to death. He’s just too bullying; I’ll go and meet him.”
Even the normally good-tempered Meg was irritated by the Snake-Man before him.
Initially, when he passed by the lands of the Snake-Men, he had hardly had the chance to do anything before Bach set his sights on him, treating him as prey and repeatedly attempting to hunt him down.
It was only because of his expertise in self-preservation that he hadn’t been slaughtered and left with no place to bury his body.
Later he learned that this fellow was a freak, who took pleasure in slicing open hearts, and would sometimes even turn on his own kin, making many creatures loathe him.
“Alright, I’ll back you up.”
Seeing this, Ivan wasn’t intimidated.
Being in a place like this, one couldn’t avoid disputes and conflicts.
Old Tree Man Meg charged forth; when old enemies met, there was extreme animosity. In a moment, two huge creatures appeared on the edge of the plateau—one with a human torso and serpent tail, scales like armor, striding against the fierce wind.
The other composed of thick vines in the form of a treeman, with the vegetation in his path instinctively obeying his command.
“Bang bang boom.”
The two colossal beings collided without swerving, wrapped in sweeping momentum, causing an extremely intense collision.
The most primitive confrontation thus began.
In fact, creatures at the lord level shared a common trait—they had formidable bodies and resilience, were not easily injured, and were hard to kill.
Several rounds passed, and although the clash seemed fierce with snake scales and rough branches flying about, and trees and vines destroyed by the aftermath, no real damage was sustained.
“These two seem reckless, but they actually know what they’re doing, holding back their true rage from fully erupting.”
Ivan watched the battle, knowing that both were restraining themselves and not truly fighting to the death, which made him breathe a sigh of relief.
After all, now was not a good time to settle old scores.
Under the current circumstances, it was manageable; as long as they didn’t use their true capabilities and continued to fight like this, even for a day and a night, it wouldn’t have much impact.
“You, treeman, have improved quite a bit and don’t look as wretched as before.” In the midst of battle, Snake-Man Bach revealed a ferocious smile.
“Hmph! Who would be like you, delighting in bullying the weak—a disgrace of the Snake-Men,” Meg coldly said.
“How dare you insult me; it seems I need to teach you a lesson.”
“Not scared of you, you thick-skinned scoundrel.”
The two had unresolved old grievances and quickly became inflamed after a few words; it seemed unlikely that they would stop at that.
Ivan helplessly shook his head and slowly moved forward, because other Snake-Men were approaching from the other side, and he naturally couldn’t stand by and watch Meg get ganged up on.
