If Elliot wasn’t so pissed off at the Gaming Commission, he would have appreciated the discipline and the accuracy of the shots taken by the gunners of the fifty fixed laser cannons on the different towers of the fortress.
As it were, the back of his brain merely registered the great job that Camelia and Kara had done with the survivors, and moved on.
He surveyed the mass of disgusting looking Giang Armored Bed Bugs coldly.
All tens of thousands of the bugs were airborne and moving rapidly towards them.
And judging by the small amount of damage the laser cannons were doing to them, their armor were definitely not for show.
True, the cannons were firing from the extreme far end of the range, and had weakened somewhat by the time they reached their targets.
But Elliot had hoped for more punching power to accompany how good the fortress and its cannons firing at full strength was looking!
“Focus fire.” Kai calmly ordered his men. “Lock on to my target. Ready. Fire.”
This time, all fifty fixed laser cannons opened fire at a single bed bug and punched a hole straight through its body.
However due to the different angles of attack, the laser cannon beams dispersed after that successful attack and failed to do the same amount of damage to the bug behind it.
Still, the damage was high enough to crack its armor and kill it after a split second.
“Camelia, take control of all the laser cannons and do as I did. Set them to Follow the Leader mode.
The rest of you, take out your hand held projectile rifles.
One bug per squad, selected by the squad leader. Ready. Aim. Fire.” Kai gave out orders calmly as he tried to maximize damage output.
Bo-bo-bo-boom!
Four hundred projectile rifles fired at nearly the same time. Eight bugs out of tens of thousands died.
“Fifty to a bug. Second bug selected by the assistant squad leader. Ready. Aim. Fire.”
Sixteen more died. But Kai judged that it was the maximum it could do.
Camelia could kill around 4 per second, while the men could kill 16. It was a total of 20 bugs per second by the fortress.
Or 1200 per minute.
At that rate, they would have to fire nonstop for over half an hour to be able to kill all the bugs.
They didn’t even have two minutes before the bugs reached them.
“I need to find stronger cannons for the fortress.” Elliot thought aloud to himself.
“Keep firing.” Kai ordered serenely and rose to the sky.
He pointed at the mass of bugs which had managed to finally cross mid range and casted “Spectral Bind”.
Due to the increase in energy density, Kai’s Spectral Bind almost tripled in size! At least a thousand of the bugs immediately froze where they were and dropped to the ground like dead flies. (Although the size had tripled, it could only cover less than a thousand of the bugs due to their larger size compared to the Firebats.)
Once down, they would die within the minute.
Kai would be able to release two such attacks before the bugs reached them.
That was less than two thousand bugs.
“Master, your awakened dragon aura, if you please.” Kai said politely.
Elliot nodded and unleashed his awakened red dragon who immediately took flight as a much bigger red dragon than before!
G-R-RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
It’s roar was much more vibrant than before and the pulses of energy it started emitting was also much stronger!
Kai’s effectiveness tripled once more!
Now his Spectral aura could kill three thousand a minute!
Still, it was merely six thousand in two minutes.
All up, the defense could barely deal with a tenth of the mass of bugs coming in before it would become a messy, melee battle!
It was up to Wu Kong’s offensive team to deal with the enemy.
There were no fancy moves to be executed in such a straightforward battle. A bunch of bugs charging in from the left against all of them arrayed in a straight line.
It would be a pure clash of strength between a huge bunch of highly armored bugs and a bunch of highly overpowered beasts.
“All of you, your auras please. Master, if you would be so kind to unleash all your auras as well.” Wu Kong said calmly.
Immediately, all around them the temperature dropped. As soon as the bugs reached three hundred meters, they would be affected by the speed decrease and a bone-chilling freeze that would weaken them drastically.
Combine that with the red dragon energy’s pulses, the bugs would be at a mere fraction of their peak strength. Although they would still be tough to kill, at least their attacks wouldn’t pack a punch.
Or would they?
Instantly, all of Elliot’s beasts with ranged attacks opened fire.
Dragon breaths, fireblasts, lightning blasts and glacial beams ripped into the wave of bugs.
They were doing way more damage than the cannons and the rifles, and managed to kill tens of bugs every second! But their increased strength only compensated for their lower number of fighters. The rate of killing the bugs merely exceeded that of the defensive team by a small amount!
“Errr big bro. Should we help?” Jessica asked Elliot.
“Yeah, big bro, I have mastered Dark Flame Apocalypse as well. I want to try it out!” Jennifer said.
Elliot glanced at his sisters and shook his head.
“They need the battle experience, especially the survivors. Let them fight and fall into a dangerous situation for once. If things get too dangerous, we can always swoop in to help them. Plus, a few of our big guns have yet to take action. And… they really need to experience pressure for a change.” Elliot chuckled and pointed at the part of the defensive line where Brock, Ellie, Winter, Rex, Red, and Wu Kong were at. “The past few battles for them had been too easy!”
True enough, Ellie was glaring at the other beasts.
“Nobody disturb me when I am fighting, okay? Gramps! Don’t follow too close! I want to have an all out fight using all my skills for once!”
