Chapter 1541: Return

The traitor had conspired with others to kidnap her, and Lord Shao couldn’t conceal the news indefinitely. He was certain to find a way to disseminate it.

Her husband must be going through a tough time these past two days…

Xie Jingrong couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment as he observed the joy on her face.

He concealed it skillfully, maintaining a gentle smile as he nodded and said, “Then, let’s go!”

Afterwards, the group immediately took the carriage into the city…

...

Although Xie Jingrong didn’t make an appearance, he checked into an inn upon entering the city. He tasked Xie Miao with delivering a letter to Shao Yunduan.

Shao Yunduan was elated upon reading the letter. The collaboration unfolded seamlessly, and Qiao Xuan returned to the station unnoticed.

This time, she truly needed rest in bed. Tearfully, Lixia and the others left, leaving Shao Yunduan by her side.

Unable to contain his joy, Qiao Xuan hugged Shao Yunduan, laughing with delight.

Shao Yunduan gazed down at the woman in his arms, smiling as he tightened his embrace.

Qiao Xuan, looking up from his arms, locked eyes with him, and they shared a kiss.

Suppressed emotions, restrained composure, nights filled with restlessness and fear, intense longing—every emotion blended and erupted simultaneously. It was a tsunami, a volcanic eruption, and a fierce wind. They kissed until parting seemed impossible.

Qiao Xuan whimpered, feeling almost suffocated by the man’s passion, yet she found solace and security in the suffocation.

“I’m sorry…” After the kiss, Shao Yunduan held her soft waist tightly with one hand, the other on her shoulder. He lowered his head and said hoarsely, “I’m sorry…”

Warmth filled Qiao Xuan’s heart, a sense of being cherished. She pursed her lips. “It’s not your fault. We didn’t anticipate those people being so cunning!”

Qiao Xuan didn’t hold Shao Yunduan responsible for the incident. If blame were to be assigned, it should fall on the East Palace—the source of the trouble. She and Shao Yunduan were mere pawns in the East Palace’s power play against her brothers.

Despite this, Qiao Xuan only pondered on it briefly and chose not to dwell on the matter.

Having committed to this path, they naturally had to continue down it.

A steely glint appeared in Shao Yunduan’s eyes. Gritting his teeth, he declared, “I won’t let this go when we return to the capital! Just wait and see!”

Taking a couple of steps back, he assessed her. “Wife, are you frightened? You must have endured a lot. I’ll ask Lixia and the others to bring some food over. Have a meal, take a bath, and get some rest. I’ll be by your side. We can discuss other matters later.”

Having returned to the city early in the morning, Qiao Xuan’s stomach growled, and fatigue set in. A good meal, a hot bath, and some sleep sounded like a perfect plan.

She didn’t refuse and nodded with a smile. “I’ll let you know when I wake up.”

Shao Yunduan smiled, squeezed her hand, and guided her to sit down. “Wait here; I’ll go fetch them.”

When Qiao Xuan awoke, it was already past noon, and Shao Yunduan had stayed with her.

Opening her eyes slowly, she seemed languid. Spotting her beloved by her side, a sweetness filled Qiao Xuan’s heart, and she nuzzled against Shao Yunduan.

Shao Yunduan lowered his head, planting kisses on her forehead, nose, and cheeks. He gently stroked her hair and smiled. “You’re awake?”
