Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts
Chapter 952 - 952: Seventh Divine BeastNathan and Iris spent the rest of the days together. They even had a small mock battle.
Although it was just for a day, Iris had definitely learned a lot from Nathan. Unlike anyone she had seen this far, Nathan’s method had been mostly unorthodox. He played one trick after another just to give him an advantageous position.
Before going on his solo trip, Nathan had to visit the Sleeping Garden first, since he had to negotiate with Evelyn. He also planned to bring up the matter of his group, helping them to take care of the Divine Hand.
But there was something else he needed to do. He wanted to summon the seventh familiar.
That was right. He definitely needed the seventh familiar before going on the trip if he didn’t want to die.
And this seventh familiar had been decided to be an auspicious divine beast. Nathan had put a lot of thought into this familiar.
Fortunately, the sacrificial items required to summon that auspicious beast were not that hard to get. It only took him three days with barely any effort to get all of them.
“In the end, you have chosen to summon the seventh familiar from Chinese mythology?” Mae asked.
“Yes.” Nathan nodded. “Have all the sacrificial items been prepared?”
“All the items have been prepared. Nidhogg has given us his blood and scale as well. We have gotten the ox tail and deer antlers. Will that be enough to narrow it down?”
“This should be enough,” confirmed Nathan.
“There are so many auspicious beasts in this mythology. In fact, the four sacred beasts are often depicted as auspicious beasts. Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise…
“All of them are associated with the four cardinal directions, which represent good fortune, power, and prosperity.
“However, none of them can be useful right now, since there’s no way for us to summon them all at once. If we only summon one of them, it might not have the intended effect.
“Hence, if we’re talking about it, there are a few others, such as Phoenix. While it’s true that Phoenix has a lot of similarity to Vermilion Bird, they’re not the same.
“In modern mythology, the phoenix is more known as a beast that can be reborn from fire, but in ancient dynasties, they were more known to be an auspicious sign. There are a lot of sightings of phoenixes whenever something good is happening.
“Its contender is Dragon. This dragon usually represents the national fortune, meaning its existence is tied directly to the nation. It’s different from the Azure Dragon. Unfortunately, you are not a king, so these two options aren’t really suitable.
“Hence, after carefully considering our options, there are only two beasts that can be useful for you.”
“Indeed.” Nathan nodded. “Unfortunately, while it’s true that the first one is good for one’s fortune, it’s more associated with wealth instead of luck.
“That’s why I chose the second one. Although this option might give me no combat advantage… or at least, according to the legend. If I can be luckier in life, it should be worth more than just combat. My familiars are strong enough anyway, like you, Mae.”
“I’m flattered.” Mae politely bowed. “In that case, Master. Everything is ready here.”
Mae presented the summoning circle. Everything had been prepared, so Nathan could just proceed with the summoning.
“Thanks. Please watch the surroundings for me.”
“Understood.”
Once Mae stepped back, Nathan closed his eyes and started channeling his ena into the summoning circle.
There weren’t a lot of divine beasts with different parts of animal bodies, so it wasn’t that hard to pinpoint the beast he wished to have.
That was why Nathan had no hesitation in his chant. “O’ Miracle of the World, Divine Being of Summoning, please use my body as the beacon and grant the beloved being your passage. By my name, Nathan, heed my call and come forth to this world, the great being of another world.
“You are an auspicious beast who helps people with their success and protects them from negative energy.
“Come forth,” muttered Nathan.
The summoning circle glowed. The golden light gradually turned to rainbow light that was soon scattered across the area.
Nathan summoned the seventh familiar with 300,000 ena as intended so that the latter would unlock its divinity right away.
He had been thinking about it. While the two beasts were extremely similar, what he wanted was career success and protection from negative energy.
The career success meant he would have fewer problems during his expedition, meaning a safer journey.
He didn’t know whether there was bad karma or not, but according to Anubis, both of them would be calculated as one couldn’t erase the other. In other words, if he had bad karma in the past, it would reside in his body as well.
By protecting himself from that negative karma, he thought he would have a better journey. It would be amazing if he became luckier by finding something good during the journey, but he didn’t hope much.
Meanwhile, the second beast was often depicted for wealth and protecting the house. In other words, this second beast would bless him with money, which he didn’t really need since he had a lot of money already.
Of course, there was one more reason. The beast he chose had one additional thing that piqued Nathan’s interest. This beast was associated with the arrival of a child or the protection of a sage.
That was why he chose this beast.
The sacrificial item had fused and gradually formed a massive figure. It was 4 meters (13 feet) tall.
It had antlers on its head, the head was like that of a dragon, but its body was similar to a horse, albeit with an ox tail. However, its body was covered in dragon scales. The hooves created a crisp sound on the ground, showing Nathan that he had successfully summoned his seventh divine beast.
Nathan couldn’t help but smile. “Welcome… Qilin.”
