Chapter 226: Slap?!

Faced with Alex’s invitation, Clara frantically shook her head without a second thought, refusing. Her mind was still reeling. Especially from the moment she saw her aunt, her brain had just gone blank.

“Alex, I suggest you don’t push things too far! When people are cornered, they can do anything!” Ashley marched out of the bathroom, clutching the bedsheet, glaring daggers at Alex.

Amidst her anger, regret also flickered in her heart.

Bringing her niece here to meet Alex was it right or wrong?

Alex’s background was undeniably powerful. If they could really latch onto this big tree, the Dawson family could definitely rise to a new level in, maybe even become the number one family.

But… was all this too cruel for her niece?

Ashley hesitated.

She hesitated about the decision she had made.

“Like, for example, running the bathwater for me and your niece?” Alex watched her with a playful smirk, his eyes teasing.

Ashley was now wearing a different pair of black stockings; the ones she’d worn earlier had been torn by Alex downstairs.

After glaring for a few more seconds, Ashley puffed out her cheeks, turned around, and stomped back into the bathroom with the stained sheet. The sound of water filling the tub started soon after.

“Your aunt will understand you,” Alex said, turning back to comfort Clara, who still couldn’t fully accept the situation, once Ashley was in the bathroom.

“But… but…”

“No ‘buts’,” Alex cut her off, then asked, “Would you want to see your aunt sad and upset?”

Clara shook her head mutely.

“She wouldn’t want that for you either.”

….

“Ring ring ring, ring ring ring~”

“Phone.” Clara, who had been pretending to be blind and mute, couldn’t keep it up anymore. She picked up the incessantly ringing phone from the pocket of the pants lying nearby and knelt on the bed to hand it to Alex.

Alex took the phone, glanced at the caller ID, saw it was Mr. Waters, and answered immediately.

“Sir, Otis has arrived at the station.”

“What?” Alex’s expression changed instantly, and he swung his legs off the bed, standing up. “How did that happen?”

Mr. Waters explained, “Otis ran into someone he saved years ago at the station. That person bought him a high-speed rail ticket. Otis took the high-speed train to the City.”

No wonder. The regular train wasn’t supposed to arrive until past five tomorrow morning.

After hanging up, Alex said calmly, “Eric Vaughn’s master has arrived in the City.”

“What?” Clara’s reaction was exactly like Alex’s earlier. Then she realized she wasn’t wearing anything and dove back under the covers with lightning speed, only peeking her head out.

“How did he get here so fast? The train isn’t supposed to arrive until tomorrow morning!”

She and Ashley had specifically flown overnight just to get to City first.

Alex quickly explained the reason Otis had taken an earlier, faster train.

“Then… what should we do?” Clara instantly tensed up again, the earlier awkwardness between her and her aunt momentarily forgotten.

The whole reason she did all this was to avoid marrying that psycho Eric Vaughn. Now, Eric’s biggest backer, the man even her grandfather had to serve respectfully, was here.

“Relax, I’m here for everything.” Alex wrapped an arm around her smooth waist, comforting her. “With me here, Eric Vaughn won’t be walking out of any hospital.”

Even though he said that, Clara was still worried.

“You go take a shower first. I’ll handle Otis,” Alex said gently, ruffling her bangs which were damp with sweat from being hidden under the covers.

“Otis might be a miracle doctor, but that’s all he is. Your biggest problem isn’t Eric Vaughn or Otis. It’s the Dawson Family back. It’s your grandfather.”

Saying this, he got off the bed and started getting dressed.

Ashley, who had been washing the bedsheet in the bathroom, came out, her hands still wet. Clearly, she had been washing it very thoroughly.

“What’s going on?” She looked at Alex, her eyes full of questions.

“Otis is in the City.” He repeated the reason he had given him, then headed for the door.

Meeting Otis definitely couldn’t happen at the hotel. That old man wasn’t some fair-skinned, long-legged beauty.

“Be careful. He’s a miracle doctor and knows a lot about the body’s pressure points,” Ashley cautioned him before closing the door behind him.

Now, only Ashley and Clara, aunt and niece, were left in the room.

“Auntie,” Clara called out softly, blinking her big, pitiful eyes.

“You silly girl…” Looking at her niece, Ashley had so much she wanted to say, but the words wouldn’t come out right.

Should she scold her for not holding her ground? For getting into bed with Alex after just meeting him?

But hadn’t she done the same?

Besides, she was the one who brought her here, the one who suggested they meet at the hotel in the first place.

“Quick, go lie down on the bed. I’ll go downstairs later and get you a bowl of red date porridge to replenish your blood,” Ashley said softly. Having shared the same… weapon… she knew how powerful Alex’s gun was.

It was her niece’s first time; it must have been very painful.

Leaving the Hotel, Alex returned to the Club.

Not long after, the club manager came up. “Sir, there’s an old man downstairs who wants to see you. He specifically demanded that you come down to greet him.”

If the old man hadn’t looked so much like a wise old master straight out of a movie, the manager would have had security beat him up and throw him out already.

Daring to disrespect the Sir? He deserves a beating.

He got here pretty fast… Alex toyed with the silver coin, a playful look in his eyes.

“Bring him up to see me.”

“Yes.”

Among Eric Vaughn’s three mysterious masters, this one, Otis, had the biggest ego and was the most arrogant.

Although he always dressed in flowing white robes and looked like a kind, approachable old master, always smiling at everyone…

That attitude was reserved for the protagonist’s group and their friends. When facing the villain’s side, he could switch moods faster than flipping a page, becoming as ruthless as possible.

A short while later, the club manager returned. Following behind him was an old man with a white beard and white hair, dressed entirely in white.

After bringing the man in, the manager turned and left.

Upon entering, Otis immediately started observing Alex.

Based on his many years of medical experience, the young man before him wasn’t like those other rich kids, whose bodies were hollowed out by wine and women. On the contrary, this young man was in excellent health, brimming with vitality.

Looks like… he might even be a trained fighter.

Despite this, Otis still felt contempt for Alex. At the end of the day, he was just another rich kid waiting to inherit wealth, incapable of achieving anything great.

Alex, meanwhile, lounged lazily on the sofa, swirling a glass of red wine in one hand while continuously spinning the silver coin with the other.

“So you’re Alex!” Otis stood with his arms clasped behind his back, taking two steps closer to Alex but still keeping some distance. He looked down his nose at him.

His attitude reeked of arrogance.

“That’s me,” Alex replied calmly, taking an elegant sip of his red wine.

“Alex, quite the high horse you’re on!” Otis snorted coldly. “Not waiting at the entrance, actually daring to make me come up to you. Even the heads of the biggest families or the capital, even high officials, are always polite when they see me.”

Just as expected, a spoiled rich kid, Otis thought. No manners, no worldliness, no future.

“High officials? Please,” Alex set down his glass, clearly getting impatient. “Old timer, wake up! The Qing dynasty ended a long time ago!”

“What?” Otis paused, stunned. He clearly hadn’t expected this younger man to be so disrespectful. It was one thing not to show proper deference, but this was just plain rude. These local rich kids have absolutely no manners.

Otis was so angry his beard practically bristled, and he glared fiercely, flicking his sleeve dramatically. “Do you have anyidea who I am?” He decided to use his reputation to cow this ignorant young man.

“That psycho Eric Vaughn’s master,” Alex replied flatly, without even looking up.

“Silence, you brat!” Otis glared down, furious. “How could my student have possibly offended you so badly that you’d plot against him like this? My student is naturally pure-hearted! He’s understood the healer’s compassion since he was a child; he wouldn’t even think of harming a small animal!”

“You know, you talk way too much,” Alex said, his patience completely gone.

Otis wasn’t like Eric Vaughn; he didn’t give out Collapse Points. Alex had lost all interest in playing games or dragging this out. No need for more pointless chatter.

“What?” Otis clearly didn’t get it.

But Alex quickly showed him what he meant through action. A lesson that sometimes, it’s better to listen more and talk less.

“I said, you talk too much.” As he spoke, Alex rolled up his sleeves and delivered a hard, stinging slap right across the old man’s face. The angle was unexpected, the force considerable.
