Rayne handed the fishing pole back to him, giving him another chance to try.

Julian took the pole and, with great determination, cast it out once again. The lure plopped into the water directly in the center of the river.

Rayne watched with excitement, hoping that he would finally be able to catch something after all of this time and effort.

They both stared at the water’s surface, waiting for a fish to take the bait. However, even after almost ten minutes, there was still no activity.

Julian tried casting out a few more times, but each time nothing happened.

Rayne noticed how disappointment began to show on his face. She felt bad and jumped up and hugged him from behind.

“Whoa”, Julian smiled. He was slightly startled from her hug, but as soon as she wrapped her arms around him, he felt the line of his fishing pole tug.

“I’ve got a bite!” he shouted and jerked his fishing pole backwards.

He had so much strength behind the pull that the large fish was directly flung out of the water, causing it to land right in front of his feet.

“YAY! You did it! Congratulations!”, cheered Rayne. She was jumping up and down while clapping.

Julian stared at the flopping fish in front of him. A wave of joy washed over him as his effort and patience paid off.

“It’s huge too!” he smiled, causing Rayne to giggle.

She walked over and picked up the fish. “It’s a salmon as well. Shall we have gilled salmon for dinner tonight?”

“With pleasure!”

He went over to the fish to gut it. “Please store this bad boy, I will enjoy eating it whenever we decide to have salmon!”

Rayne couldn’t help but laugh, “Haha, sure! Your first caught fish will be extra delicious!”

She accepted the cleaned fish and quickly stored it in her system to preserve its freshness.

Julian looked up at the sky, gauging the time by the sun’s position. “We should get going soon, we still have a little bit to walk.”

Rayne quickly stored all of the fishing poles and chairs. “Where to now?”

Julian smiled and pointed his finger, “Across the river!”

Rayne looked at the river with wide eyes. “So we’re going for a swim?”

“Yes. The water here is really calm, making it a good place to swim across. Once we get to the other side, we can change into dry clothes”, smiled Julian.

Without hesitation, Rayne jumped into the cool water. She completely submerged herself, then came up with a big smile.

“Come on in, the water is so refreshing!”

Julian shook his head, then jumped in. The cool water felt amazing on his skin, which was hot from the sun.

They both swam around a little bit before swimming over to the other bank.

“That was so refreshing!” said Rayne as she wrung the water out of her long hair.

They both smiled at each other. There was a certain joy in doing something like swimming in a river on a hot day that was just unusual enough to feel adventurous.

Rayne took out a small RV and went inside to dry off and change. Once they were both comfortable in dry clothing, Julian led the way forward.

They walked for about another hour until the scenery began to look slightly familiar.

“Have we been here before?” asked Rayne, looking at the landscape.

They’ve been walking through the dense forest up a small hill, and there were certain places where Rayne could see the river below them.

“Just wait and see, it shouldn’t be too much longer now”, said Julian.

He reached out to hold her hand, helping her up the hill. Today felt like a magical day– he was able to fully enjoy himself alongside his favorite person in the entire world.

It was the first day in a long while that he didn’t concern himself with Damien or any other problems. He simply spent his time living in the moment and having fun.

Besides it being hot out, the weather was beautiful. There was a slight breeze that spread the scent of the nearby wildflowers, and the birds were chirping happily.

It was only when they reached the top of the small mountain that Rayne realized where they were.

“Oh! Isn’t this the beautiful place where you took me the day you went back to your bunker after staying with me?”, asked Rayne in surprise.

She could see the entire valley from this spot, and it was breathtaking.

“Yes, this is that spot! We took a slightly different route to avoid getting close to the bunker, but I wanted to take you back here for a date”, he smiled.

Rayne’s eyes curved up into crescents. She looked around some more before turning to look at Julian.

“Thank you, this is beautiful. I love it here”, she said softly.

After looking around a little while longer, she walked over to a flat area of the rock and placed the smallest of the RVs that she had in her system.

Since it was going to be a special date, she also took out a small table and two chairs, along with a grill.

While she was setting up outside, Julian was inside the RV, changing his clothes once more. He could feel his heart racing as the evening approached.

He looked at the small box in his hands with a smile before putting it away into his pocket.

“Wow, you look dashing!” said Rayne.

Julian walked outside wearing black dress pants and a black button-up shirt. His hair was slicked back slightly, with a few strands hanging down around his face.

“I was just feeling a little fancy today”, he smiled.

“Well, let me go change too! I want to match!” she said and ran inside.

A few minutes later, she came back outside wearing a long, flowing white summer dress. It was off the shoulder and had small lace details all around.

Her hair was lightly curled and tied to one side, over her shoulder. She wore light makeup and simple gold jewelry, giving her a soft and elegant look.

“You look absolutely stunning”, whispered Julian. His heart raced as he watched her walk over to his side.

He leaned in and kissed her, then walked her over to the small table, pulling out a seat for her.
