Rayne walked out with Julian holding hands. She took a deep breath, taking in the scents of the fresh air and various dinners that were being cooked around the settlement.

Her heart was at peace even though she knew she would be walking headfirst into one of the most dangerous places she’s ever been.

“I want to take some time tonight and overstock the warehouses. I want to be sure that everyone here can continue to live comfortably without me in the worst-case scenario.”

Julian frowned, hearing her words, but didn’t stop her. It was true, they’ve all been secretly relying on her this whole time. While the settlement had already made big steps toward being self-sufficient, they still relied on her goods to live comfortably.

“Then let’s go home first so that you can take out the weapons and ammo. I’ll sort them while you stock the warehouses,” he said.

After making it home, they ate a quick meal before they both went over to their guest room to begin sorting the weapons.

Rayne made copies of the basic pistols and rifles, along with a huge amount of ammo. She also made copies of cold weapons, consisting mostly of combat knives and daggers.

All of these weapons were meant for the regular citizens of the settlement since Alpha Team already had its specialized weapons with them.

Still, a large pile of weapons formed on the ground.

“This should be more than enough. If this doesn’t last them a long time, we have bigger issues to deal with”, said Julian.

He stayed behind while Rayne snuck out of the house and into the warehouses. It was late enough in the evening that most of the residents were getting ready to sleep, if not already sleeping.

She walked into the food warehouse first and began filling every nook and cranny with supplies. The freezers and refrigerators were fully restocked with frozen meats, seafood, vegetables, and even desserts.

They were so stuffed that Rayne had a hard time closing the doors. She moved on to the canned food section and did the same, filling every space with high-quality canned goods of every type.

It didn’t take long before the entire warehouse looked bloated with supplies.

“There’s no way people aren’t going to question where all of the items came from. It’s visibly different in here, even at first glance”, she mumbled, looking around.

Although it would raise a lot of suspicion, Rayne did not care. It was more important to ensure a large enough supply that I would last in the event she was killed or captured.

Okay, off to the next warehouse.

The next warehouse was the housing items and clothing warehouse. Similar to the previous warehouse, she filled all of the empty space with furniture, cooking wares, dishes, cleaning supplies, and a whole bunch of clothing.

Thankfully, she had so many different articles of clothing stored that there were hardly any duplicate items.

She made sure to include clothing of all sizes as well as for every season. So far, the weather has been very unpredictable, and she wanted to make sure that if it snowed tomorrow, they would be ready for it.

The last warehouse was where all of the tools and construction supplies were. It was the emptiest of the warehouses due to all of the recent construction projects, so Rayne resupplied it with treated lumber, screws, nails, pipes, hoses, glues, caulks, paint and stains.

She also added new generators and power tools since there were now many more residents than there were when they initially moved here. They were also very low on solar panels, heaters, and air conditioners, so Rayne made sure to restock all of those items before moving on to the most important item: fuel.

While the solar panels worked wonders in the current sunny weather and provided ample electricity, the sun wasn’t a guarantee.

Fuel to run generators, stoves, and vehicles was a vital resource. There were already a few huge tanks full of gasoline and propane inside the warehouse, but Rayne wanted to leave even more.

She tripled the number of these tanks, having to store a few of them outside because they wouldn’t fit.

“I think that should be enough”, she said to herself, satisfied with the result.

All three warehouses were so stuffed that it was difficult to walk inside them. Only a small trail was left inside, allowing a single person to walk through.

“Yes, people are most definitely going to question this”, she laughed to herself before walking over to her last destination, the lake.

Since she was out with Julian recently, she didn’t have a chance to refill the lake. The water level had gone down visibly, but not as much as she thought it would.

This is good, it means the lake will last longer than I initially predicted.

The recent rain was also a good sign, giving hope that there would be more to come.

Rayne dipped her hand into the lake and dumped barrels of water inside until the water level got so high that it even overflowed onto the surrounding grass.

She hoped that this water would last until she came back, or until the next rain. There were still barrels of water inside the warehouses that could be used in emergencies, but she didn’t want things to turn to that.

Once satisfied, she turned to head back home and check on Julian. He had just finished organizing all of the weapons and ammo, ensuring that nothing was missing.

“You’re back so soon”, he said, surprised.

Rayne smiled, “Am I? I didn’t realize.”

Julian stood up and walked over to her side, placing a small kiss on her forehead. “Everything seems to be in order. I’ll pass these items over to Ian before we leave in the morning. Let’s head to bed and enjoy our last peaceful night of sleep before we head out.”

Rayne placed her hands around him, hugging him before walking over to the bedroom. They both smiled at each other and went to bed.

The next morning, Rayne woke up to gasps and murmurs coming from outside the nearby warehouses.
