480 Asura Mode

The fifty-something knights approached me in a crescent formation. Their large armor covered the entirety of my vision, giving off an intimidating appearance.

However, it was too bad that they chose the wrong time to appear.

When they reached about three meters before me, just as they were about to swing their swords down, my body moved.

This time, as my eyes got accustomed to the increased speed, I could now follow my own movements.

I took a big step forward, reducing the distance between me and the frontmost knight to nothing. As it happened in less than 0.01 seconds, the knight couldn't react in time.

*ZIIIN!*

The [Variable Energy Blade] in my hand quickly swung upward, cutting the knight in half.

"...?"

But after I cut through one, I noticed something strange. The armor was tough! If not for the Energy Blade having the property of "piercing any defenses" applied to it, then I'd probably be unable to even scratch it!

A moment later, the other knights caught my figure and quickly adjusted the trajectory of their blades. They skillfully moved to not hit their comrades while ensuring that I had nowhere to run.

'Great teamwork!'

I couldn't help but praise in my mind. However, no matter how great their coordination was, it was meaningless in front of raw power.

As my mind was processing the information half a second ahead, it was constantly running at full capacity. To make matters worse, the more variables there are, the more frequent the future prediction changes, and the more strain my mind would suffer.

In short, the faster the enemy's reaction speed was, the worse it got for my situation.

"UGH!"

I gritted my teeth while enduring the pain.

Blood seemed to be flowing down my eyes and nose now, but I ignored them completely and tried to follow through with the commands coming from my brain.

Three steps forward brought me to the side of one of the knights again, and this time, I didn't swing my blade to take his life. Instead, I used his large body as a shield, protecting me from most of the swords coming down on top of my head.

Then, from that position, I started to swing the [Variable Energy Blade], cutting the rest of the knights behind him in half. In one swing, five guys fell!

After that, I took another three steps forward, weaving through the falling corpses, and did the same thing on repeat.

*VUOOOOM!*

With every swing of my blade, corpses were being mass-produced.

Although I could watch everything happening as if it were in slow motion, feeling like it had been going on for a while, the exchange occurred within a split second.

Within that time, the 50-something knights dropped down to a mere ten. Corpses that were quartered and diced into a million pieces spread all over the ground, creating a scene that's worthy of becoming a nightmare.

"Monster..."

I wasn't sure if it was the priests or the knights who muttered that, but in the end, it's all the same. I jumped toward the closest priest, ignoring the knights, and swung the [Variable Energy Blade] without remorse.

As they were stunned by the onslaught spreading before them, their heads flew without much resistance, cutting down the six priests by half. The last three priests tried to attack, blocking the entire space before me, but it was not worth mentioning.

A casual swing of my blade was more than enough to clear a section, creating a safe passage for me to slip through!

[Be careful, Will! The knights are hot on your tail!]

Fatima continued to warn me, but I, of course, didn't miss them. However, rather than the melee knights, the long-range priests were more troublesome, so handling them first is the top priority.

"...!"

As expected, one of the priests, the one who summoned the knights, noticed my weakness. An attack flew to where Fina and the rest were standing!

I was too far from them, so I couldn't intercept the attack with Fatima's [Variable Energy Blade], but fortunately, I still had other means.

I grabbed the hilt of my sword and threw it forward while adding a little spin to it. The blade flew across the room, intercepting the attacks that were aimed at the girls in time.

Of course, I didn't stand still and watch the blade fly across, but instead used all my strength and agility to dash forward, reaching the rest of the priests in one go.

"Sh*t!"

"GO AWAY!"

The two priests closer to me cried in fear as they attacked, but it was useless. With a simple sidestep, their attacks missed their target completely.

With another step forward and a swing of my blade, two more heads flew into the air. Now, there's only one priest left, along with ten knights seething in anger as they try to catch up to me.

"K-Knights! Protect me!"

The last priest roared, but the knights were too far away to provide any substantial help at all. I watched as his eyes grew wide, with blue veins popping, as he watched the [Variable Energy Blade] come closer to his face.

*VUOOOM!*

And with one clean swipe, his head was finally liberated from his body. After that, there should be no more threats to us, with cleaning up the knights the only thing remaining.

"W-Will..."

"...!"

But before I noticed, one of the knights managed to reach where Fina and the rest were. Yorm and Judy had fallen to the ground with large, deadly wounds, and Julia was kneeling on the floor and on the brink of death.

"No..."

How did I miss him?!

With rage, I rushed to the knight, who was grabbing Fina by her neck, and swung the sword in my hand.

*THUD!*

But before I could come within range, the other knights managed to intercept me. A kick managed to hit my back, sending me rolling forward. Did the future sight miss that attack too?!

"... No."

It's not that [Asura Mode] was losing its effect, but rather due to my body turning slower, no longer able to catch up with the commands from my brain.

'I wasted too much time...!'

I gritted my teeth while resolving myself to use one of my trump cards.

"System's Heavenly Halo!"

With a shout, as if trying to release all my anger, I called upon the System's function and healed my injuries. My body returned to its previous, healthy state, but my energy took quite a dip.

With my body now able to move as previously, I continued running, extending a hand forward.

"FINA!"

As if knowing that he was at a disadvantage, the knight didn't linger for long and instead opened a portal behind him.

Then he stepped into it, along with Fina, before vanishing.
