"How long would it take to set everything up?"
Eldon suddenly asked, to which I leaned back into my chair. A small relaxing feeling filled me after seeing that everything was going well, my eyes meeting Eldon's as I replied.
"We need to lay some groundwork first, some rumours must spread, the people should get antsy, and we need to get the details and facts all straight. Fooling the most powerful organisation in the world takes some work, you know?"
A small chuckle left me as I said these words, and I looked at Lyra, who was frowning, her face turning to me as she asked:
"Who else is backing you?"
The question is the elephant in the room, after all, how did I, a single entity, get all this information that they were blind to? What kind of info do I hold to know how everything flows and the torture that Draxton went through? Many won't be able to see it, but the professionals in front of me can tell that even the torture work is of a professional. Otherwise, there is no way to so easily break the will of such a powerful man who has climbed to the top, which means there is something that I am hiding, something huge that can shake everything up, seeing which I smiled.
"I like smart people, but I don't like people inserting too much into my business, especially when they are not full family to me."
"Oh? What should I do to be your full family?~"
Vexa asked as she leaned against the table, a sensual smile on her face as she did so. "Vexa, behave."
Lyra added as she looked at me straight."That may be true, but it's impossible for me to give you my full support even when I can't see the whole depth of where you come from."
'Tch... so much work.'
I was annoyed inside a bit as I leaned back into the chair, my fingers rhythmically tapping on the table as I focused on Lyra, her words also bringing an uncomfortable look to the faces of the others, except for Ragar, who I employed.
'Sigh... it's much easier dealing with ones fully loyal to me.'
They are loyal to Eleanor, but they aren't fully loyal to me at all, and they live with suspicion in their minds, too, and I can't blame them for it. It's something I can accept; it's just that I keep giving them things to prove myself, and still, some of them go out of their way to keep testing me or trying to get information out of me.
'Guess the corporate life at the top is not easy at all.'
Musing at that thought, I looked at everyone who was looking at me, and I am sure they could see the annoyance on my face. None of them would ever dare question Eleanor, leaving aside the fact that they follow her. There is also my master's strength, which they cannot even dream to go against for the moment.
"Sigh... as I said before, what I have is my own, and if what I show and what I hide makes you uncomfortable, then that's on you. But then again, there is the fact that all of you are keeping your reputation in my hands to do this, so I don't mind telling you about it..."
Reaching this point, I turned to look at Noel, who, getting my next signal, fully enclosed the whole area in a protective layer, blocking all info. As I looked at these 'followers' of mine, I spoke:
"DarkNight, they owe me favour."
"!! "
The surprised looks of everyone were quite a fun sight to see, even Lyra seemed stupefied by the answer, Eldon was the one that quickly recovered as he spoke.
"But they don't get involved in things like this; their neutrality to the world and the information they hold is what's keeping them running."
"Well, let's just say the favour they owe is a very large one."
I replied, to which he could only close his mouth. Even what I told before wasn't obliged by me to tell them, yet I did. Asking any more into this would only be going too much and encroaching even upon my personal life, and I could see the annoyance flashing in Lyra's face at that situation, but there was nothing more she could do about it.
"I don't like what they do."
Faelan chimed in, his words holding a certain edge to them as I looked at the guy who was all silent till now.
'Urgh... this stupid code...'
"Then you can take it up with them. I have no problem with Sir Faelan running to their front door and speaking of your problems."
My voice, making fun, didn't sit well with him, as his full aura of power unleashed from him.
"You-"
Before he could even finish his words, the full force of Ragar pushed him back, not even giving Faelan's aura or suppression a chance to reach me. The whole room, within a second, turned completely heated up, with everything looking as if it would burst at any moment.
"Faelan! What are you doing?!"
Sylvanna was the one to first bark out, her angry expression not nice at all, to which Faelan quickly got control of himself.
"Sorry, I lost my cool for a moment."
As he said so, he gave me the side-eye, after which Sylvanna turned her eyes to me as she spoke:
"And young leader, I think you, too, shouldn't be so disrespectful. Faelan had fought to hold this whole association together when this was nothing..."
'I know, that's why he is still breathing.'
I thought inwardly, looking at the man. Dealing with him would be a pain, but for now, I need to keep it all cool as I spoke:
"I understand, but I hold the DarkNight in high regard. I have helped them, and they me, and they too will be helping us extensively to help us get rid of this situation, which you all have caused from your negligence. So I didn't see any right for Sir Faelan to get involved in this, that's all."
My words were calm and controlled, but they could all see that I wasn't in a good mood, and they all took it silently. Seeing this, I waved at them as I spoke:
"Why don't all of you look at the data and the path of help DarkNight has set forth with their aid and then get back to me tomorrow when everything would have cooled off between us."
My words this time were not a suggestion, and they all felt it, as Eldon was the first one to
speak:
"We will."
At his reply, Noel started to give them the plans that were made, after which, one by one, the QuiverLords started to leave, soon only leaving me, Noel, and Draxton half-dead in the room. My hand went to rub my head as Noel suddenly spoke:
"Don't take what Faelan said to heart, young leader. He is just more heroic."
'Or a hundreds-of-years-old guy that can't change to be very flexible, that's the main issue with these elves.'
Taking so long to mature gives others a headache. Sure, they might have the most power in the world right now, but in a way, the long life they get without getting stronger is an annoying thing, and it has affected several elves in several ways. The rise of arrogance and immaturity even as years pass is just some of the drawbacks of the huge lifespan they are
given.
'Though the only good thing is the fact that I can understand that Sylvanna surely has a crush or at least an attraction towards me.'
It's something natural when I use the gifts of being the prince of life. The species that revere Goddess Orpheus are the elves, after all, and thanks to that, I have a lot of authority over them if I use it. Elves, in a sense, are said in legends to be one of the most loved creatures in
Orpheus's creation.
It's the reason why they were gifted with such a large lifespan and the reason they have such a gentle nature, along with a non-war-seeking behaviour, their beauty being in their happiness to worship the life they are given. This means, in a sense, they are the fanatics of life, and it
could even be seen in Tria, as she was willing to be like a bitch in heat just for my status. She was willing to get pregnant and have my child when she first met me just for my status.
'And as long as I keep my aura of control over me, I will be irresistible to her.'
In normal times, I keep the aura of life and its authority in control over me. Otherwise, I would be swarmed by horny elves that would want my body, and the worst would be it doesn't
discriminate between genders.
'Of course, it's not like a sex switch.'
But to those with less power than me, my aura fully unleashed could be like a drug that they
can't get used to. Being close to me relaxes them and makes their body hot, and just looking at me would make them feel like they're in heaven, and that's just the tip of the iceberg for the emotions they would feel when I let my aura loose.
And I had kept it fully focused on Sylvanna ever since she entered, so one can guess her
mindset.
