Walking through one of the cities, drawing too much attention due to his clothes and the Terror’s ungodly beauty and revealing outfit, the two made their way to the nearest blacksmith.
It was time for Arad to change his axes. He had gathered enough money by slaying monsters in the past days that he had caused a news storm about monsters suddenly disappearing. Money wasn’t an issue, and he now needed better weapons for himself and the Terror, even though she insisted she didn’t need them.
Arad had his two axes sharpened, repaired, and enchanted with a magic called [Edge] which allowed a blade to hold its sharpness for much, much longer. Almost five times the normal durability.
He then picked a massive greatsword that was almost as tall as him and had it enchanted with two magics, which was almost four times as expensive as one enchantment. Arad picked [Edge] and then a magic called [Lightweight], which reduced the weight of an item by three-quarters.
This 4 Kg (8.8 pounds) Zweihänder now only weighs about 1 Kg (2.2 pounds) in his hand. He could swing and swirl it with one hand as he didn’t hold anything. With Arad’s strength, moving 4 or 10 kg wasn’t a problem, but with a boss so much faster than him, he needed a weapon that he could swing fast, really, really fast.
The blacksmith almost shat himself seeing Arad swinging the Zweihänder like it was a toy. But Arad’s shopping spree wasn’t done yet, one or two weapons aren’t going to be enough for him. He was taught how to fight by Alcott after all.
Arad then picked a Halberd, a Bec-de-corbin, and a pole-axe, and enchanted them the same as the Zweihänder. And just when the blacksmith’s face paled and drained of all moisture, both appalled and terrified by the amount of money Arad was spending, he got smacked in the face with an order of twenty spears, all enchanted with [Lightweight] at least.
With a dried face, the blacksmith asked Arad if he meant javelins, at which Arad replied that the javelins were too small to pierce what he wanted to pierce, and so asked for actual, large spears with a heavy head. And he wanted all twenty spears to be enchanted with [Channel Lightning] [Lightweight].
When the blacksmith had Arad’s order ready, it was time for the reluctant Terror to pick a weapon for herself. They were going to face something stronger than her, she can’t possibly go with nothing more than a few pieces of hide holding her important parts together.
After an hour, she still wasn’t able to pick anything and then dragged Arad to the back room. “Listen here, I’ll fight in my true form. Weapons are useless, and armor as well. If you’re going to make me use something, let’s go and find a magical item or two that I might be able to use.”
“Why didn’t you say that from the start?” Arad asked, and she shook her head, “I mean, you’re a dragon. I thought you’d understand that fighting in a human form would make me much weaker.”
Arad sighed, scratching the back of his head, “Fine, let’s go and check the magic stores. I, too, wanted to buy a few things.”
“How much money do we have left?” She looked at him with a worried face, “That was a couple of million Rolits.”
Arad checked their money bag, there were still at least a few dozen million Rolits there. She was with him when he hunted and sold the monster part, but she didn’t bother to keep track of how much money they had. Until last week, when she met him, money meant nothing to her.
She glanced at him, “Two days ago at the tavern, I heard some women gossiping about how they pick their husbands based on how money they make. They said that ten thousand Rolits a month is nobly rich. How the hell did you end up with a couple of dozen million in a week?”
“What sane idiot is out there hunting Horrors each day?” Arad closed their money bag. “I’m the only one around.” Arad had danced with death a couple of times, only surviving by a hair’s breadth and by Shi’s blessing.
The two of them walked out with all of the weapons and headed to the best-looking magic item shop in the city. Unlike the messy blacksmith workshop that was filled with soot and dust, the stench of fire, and the loud banging of hammers, the magic item shop was quiet, clean, and looked nothing like any other shop.
“Stop it there!” The guard standing at the shop’s door lifted his hand, barring the two of them from getting inside. “This isn’t a place the likes of you two can just stroll into. Scram.” The guard’s sharp gaze, judging eyes, and burning temper quickly got underneath the Terror’s skin, and she almost fed him to stray cats.
Arad extended his hand in front of the Terror, “I’ll talk.” He approached the guard, and it was just then that the poor man realised. He was barely as tall as Arad’s belly button.
The massive arms, the sharp, deathly glare, and the deep, rumbling voice, “Move… I only came to buy some items.” The guard knew that if he didn’t comply, Arad would mangle him like a dog ripping a rat into pieces.
Having no chance of physically stopping Arad, the guard moved to the side, “Please go inside.”
Arad looked back at the Terror with a smile, “See? Let’s go see if we can find something.”
“He really let us in.” The Terror could see that the guard absolutely didn’t want to let them inside. She could believe that he changed his mind just from listening to Arad’s words. She needs to learn more about human speech.
“Asking nicely can go a long way,” Arad said with a smile as he and the Terror walked inside.
Outside, the guard was calling for reinforcement, claiming that a monster and a harlot had broken into the shop.
