Arad was only here for two reasons: To establish diplomatic relationships with the half-fallen-angels, and to find whatever abominable horror they guard.
He can’t liberate other worlds and leave his world half saved.
“Zariel, I guess you know why I’m here?”
She shifted and then looked at him, then at Doma. “I do. To establish diplomatic relationships with our kingdom. But, I’m not the one you’re looking for.”
Doma smiled, “Not that, the other one about the abomination your kind guards. You’re Gabriel’s daughter, you must know, right?”
She took a deep breath and then looked out of the window. Her clothes shifted with the wind, and then she turned to Arad. “We aren’t guarding that thing. We’re only here to maintain the barrier, keeping it sealed by sacrificing ten souls a day.”
Arad flinched, “What?”
“The thing beneath the capital isn’t any normal abomination; it’s an Eldritch God. What we call an Abominable Titan, a god that has been consumed and corrupted by the abominations and turned into one of their kind. It’s as powerful as god and can infect other gods, so it can’t be kept in hell or heaven. It can’t even be destroyed by Kali, since that thing no longer belongs to the universe and is powerful enough to resist her will.”
Arad nodded, “You also can’t risk having Kali get infected. But, by any chance, is that thing related to creation?”
Zariel giggled, “I wish. Creation is the only divine being who managed to remain sane after getting corrupted. The thing we keep is the deformed god of violence, fighting, and war.”
Arad and Doma stared at her for a long while. They remained silent for even longer. “The god of violence and war?” Doma asked with a worried face.
“In the flesh. All I know is that he brushed against the enemy leader in battle and ended up like that.” She looked at Arad, “You’ve married Kali, she probably knows more about that than us.”
In the vacuum of space, Arad looked at Diana. “The god of war, you know anything about him?”
Diana looked down at Arad’s head and shrugged, “You mean Alexander. He took charge of the armies for many centuries and achieved great victories, so much so that Nyar made a plan to capture him.”
She sat on Arad’s back and sighed. “Nyar set a trap, led him inside by sacrificing many abominations, and managed to touch him with his long tendrils, turning him into an abomination.”
“He is sealed in the mortal world. Why didn’t the gods kill him?” Arad could already guess that turning him back to normal was impossible. He doubted even Nyar could do such a thing.
“So that’s where he’s contained.” Even Diana didn’t know what happened to the deformed god. Most angels only knew that the overgod dealt with him.
“Alexander can turn gods weaker than him into abominations. And if a god stronger than him manages to kill him, that god would also turn into an abomination. I guess even the overgod couldn’t kill him.” She sighed and looked at Arad. “I’ll ask Kali about it and see if she knows anything.”
In the carriage, Arad looked at them and shook his head, “The gods can’t kill him. If they did, he’ll turn them into abominations. Only a mortal can safely kill him.”
“Safely?” Zaleria rubbed her face, “That’s the god of war, fighting, and violence. He might not be Kali, but he is similar. A god of pure carnage, and not someone that mortals can even dream of resisting, let alone fighting head-on.”
“I asked Kali about him.” Arad sighed, “She said that his power is close to a 7/10 while she is a solid 10/10. And that I should try killing him if I could.”
Zariel choked on air and cried, looking at him with a terrified face. “She! She wants you to kill him? A god?”
“I’ll at least try. He can’t turn me into an abomination since I’m not a god. If I can’t win, I’ll just run away.” He looked at Doma, “What do you think?”
“I can make so you can’t run, but you’ll become stronger.” She smiled, and Arad laughed, “Well, I’ll try without that first, and then we’ll see.”
“Are you crazy? You want to fight the god of war? You’ll get killed before you can even see him.” She shook her head, “If the gods can’t do it, then no mortal has any business even trying.”
Doma smiled, “You see, Arad here is known for being able to punch really, really, really hard. Hard enough to make a whole world go puff.” She leaned on his shoulder, “I know it’s hard to believe, seeing that he is just sitting like this, looking like a harmless teddy bear.” She grinned.
“But I assure you, he is anything but harmless.” She grabbed Arad’s arm and ran her thin fingers on his forearm, “Such power, you’ll have to see it to believe it.”
Fighting a war god isn’t a simple matter. Arad had never faced such an opponent and would probably never face another like him. The sheer scale of bloodshed that Alexander could bring is going to surpass everything that Arad could imagine.
Alexander is the god of violence, which means he is a master at ripping his enemies apart, causing bloodshed, and sowing fear. He is a raging barbarian who swings blindly and rips everything apart without concern.
But, he is also the god of fighting, which means he is also a master of all fighting styles and weapons. While his violent portfolio implies a brutal front, he can also show a great level of skill and mastery that most barbarians lack.
Then, at the end, Alexander is the god of war, a master of strategy and warfare. He is a great fighter on his own, but at the same time, he commands an endless army that only lives to wage war; they eat, breathe, and pleasure themselves with war.
Alexander won’t be waiting for Arad alone, but he’ll be protected behind a vast and endless army that Arad has to deal with first. Of course, Arad had his own army to use.
While the fight will be hard, and maybe even impossible to win, giving Arad two defeats back-to-back, he is willing to try. Because he could end up getting Alexander’s portfolios.
