The Herb King

Chapter 386: War Against the Beast Army (1)

"Charles! You can't decide on this matter without my approval!" Shouted the patriarch of the Featherkind Family.

Charles stared at him with a serious look and replied. "Patriarch, no one is willing to accept this job! We can't afford to waste more time here! I'll go and delay those beasts!"

"You!" The patriarch of the Featherkind Family didn't expect that Charles would actually be so stubborn. Looking at the latter's determined gaze, he knew that he could no longer change Charles' decision.

"Are you sure about this, Charles? Stopping the beast army by yourself will be dangerous." Dan stared at him with a stern expression.

"As long as I can help Warmridge get through this crisis, I don't mind dying on the battlefield!" Charles replied in a firm tone.

His words made everyone feel ashamed of themselves.

"I will go with him. I have four Nascent Soul Espers in my army including myself. Together with Sir Charles, we should be able to stop the beast army from entering the city." Kenneth spoke with a light smile.

Charles didn't expect him to volunteer so he was surprised. "Sir Kenneth…"

Sensing his astonished gaze, Kenneth smiled and waved his hand at him.

"Good! With the support from Sir Kenneth's army, we no longer have to worry about the beast army. We can put our focus on eliminating the rebel forces!" The patriarch of the Silverton Family said.

"Since everyone has already made a decision, let's head to battle!" Dan muttered with a cold smile.

"Kazak, why did you command us to stay back?" The golden-haired man asked while looking at the huge dragon. He was itching for some action since he was in a bad mood in the past few days. However, Kazak told them to stay back and let the normal beasts lead the charge. As a prideful Nascent Soul beast, he felt that it was humiliating to stay behind.

The huge dragon turned its gaze at him before it transformed into a middle-aged man with unkempt hair. He looked to be in his fifties, but his well-defined physique made him look younger. "Argent, you are always the first one to complain. You should use that brain of yours sometimes." He chuckled as he patted the golden-haired man's shoulder.

Argent pushed his hand away in disgust while glaring at him. "What did you say?!"

A muscular old man suddenly appeared behind him and pulled him away, preventing him from causing a fight. "Kazak should have his reason for letting us stay behind. You should be patient, Argent. We'll get our chance to attack soon." He muttered as he smacked the back of Argent's head.

"Release me, Gargan! I want to punch that arrogant mug of his!" Argent tried to escape from the old man's grip, but his arms were like immovable boulders.

Kazak turned his gaze away from him while chuckling in amusement. "That's the reason why I invited that guy to join this battle. Wouldn't it be boring without a clown in our army? Don't you agree, Serena?"

A blue-haired woman appeared beside him. She covered her mouth with her hand as he laughed lightly. "It is as you say, Sir Kazak."

The four Nascent Soul beasts hovered behind the beast army.

At this moment, they noticed a huge army approaching them.

"That's the reason why I called you guys back temporarily. Do you sense the auras leading that human army?" Kazak asked as he pointed at the approaching army.

Serena, Argent, and Gargan narrowed their eyes as they observed the enemy. After a few seconds of observation, their expression changed.

"Five Nascent Soul Espers? They are not that strong. The strongest among them only activated two of his soul nodules. Hmph! You're afraid of those weaklings?! I overestimated you, Kazak!" Argent muttered in disdain.

Kazak merely laughed at his words. "I know that they are weak, but you shouldn't forget that humans are incredibly cunning creatures. They can employ all sorts of strategies and tricks to defeat opponents who are stronger than them. If we rush in recklessly, we might fall into their schemes. If you want to test out their tactics, then go ahead and activate their traps for us."

The faces of Serena and Gargan became serious after hearing Kazak's words.

"You!" Argent couldn't offer a rebuttal and he could only stare at Kazak with absolute despise.

"I know you hate me, but we are still fellow beasts. There must not be any conflict between us. If we are significantly weakened because of internal conflict, humans will attack us and destroy our territories. Do you want that to happen?" Kazak's expression suddenly turned cold as he looked Argent.

Argent didn't dare say anything when he saw his chilling gaze. He lowered his head and stayed silent.

Kazak moved his gaze back to the human army and said. "We need to stay united if we want a place in this human-dominated continent."

While they were chatting, the two armies soon clashed. Hundreds of soldiers from the human side and hundreds of beasts from the beast army died in that initial contact.

The sound of battle soon echoed across the area. The fearless shouting of the soldiers and the fearsome cries of the savage beasts echoed in all directions.

Amid the battle, William's small group was also engaged in combat. They were fighting against a gathering of fifty savage beasts. They were significantly outnumbered, but because of their superior combat prowess, they managed to hold their ground.

"Use the runes given by the lord if needed! All of us must return alive after everything is over!" William shouted after slaying a large savage beast.

Hearing his shout, his subordinates were invigorated. They fought more fiercely. The savage beasts fell one after another with their combined efforts. However, after all of their enemies were defeated, more savage beasts came.

At this moment, they witnessed a strong savage beast ripping apart the human army's defensive line. The scene stunned them, but they couldn't rush to aid them since they were held down by a huge number of savage beasts.

"Nooo!!!"
