The Invincible Full-Moon System
Chapter 1554 - 1554: Wolf in Sheep's ClothingAt his words, a ghostly pallor crossed Vivian’s face.
It happened instantly.
Vivian was hoping that she had heard it wrong, so she asked the leading guard to repeat what she said.
“What did you say…?”
“I said the Angel managed to wound Lady Naela, who was Lord Kyran’s fiancée.”
As soon as she digested what the leading guard said for the second time, her pupils dilated, and without even telling Jarvald and the other soldiers sweeping the forest to stop, she quickly sprinted back to the castle to find Gelmar.
Inside her mind, the pieces began to merge together.
She could now see the bigger picture. She knew exactly what Richard’s plan was.
‘I should’ve thought about this sooner!’ Vivian thought insight, cursing herself for not realizing—what Richard was trying to do. ‘Emperor Rex still felt bitter toward the Humans, and right now, the Angels were too far away for them to be his concern. So, what better method to recruit him and his empire than creating an even stronger emotion? A stronger hate. One that could overpower his bitterness towards the Humans…’
Gritting her teeth, she picked up her pace, moving on all four like an animal.
Rex hasn’t allowed her to retain her Werewolf form, but that didn’t stop her move moving on all four.
It was natural for her to go down to pick up her pace.
Reaching the castle’s walls only took a moment, and she sensed Gelmar inside.
He was checking on Calidaora and Ryze from the looks of it.
Noticing her approaching at blitzing speed, Gelmar already knew that something was wrong.
He stepped out of the castle and looked up at her.
Vivian leaped from the wall and landed in front of Gelmar, her countenance now streaked with urgency that Gelmar had never seen before, “Captain Gelmar, we have to move quickly! We need to get to the Dark Elf Kingdom right now!”
“Dark Elf Kingdom…? Why?”
“It’s Richard… He’s trying to create bad blood against the Angels by killing Lady Naela!”
“What?! Are you sure about this?”
“Yes, I’m sure! The Dark Elves said that there was a stray Angel that got into their territory and attacked Naela. Fortunately, she’s fine, but it wouldn’t be for long. I reckoned Richard is going to kill her—and force Lord Kyran to blame the Angels!”
Upon hearing this, Gelmar frowned.
“But how did he pose as an Angel?” He asked in confusion.
In his eyes, Vivian was throwing accusations blatantly.
Since the Dark Elves were quite sure that the one who attacked Naela was an Angel, there’s no way that they would mistake a Human as an Angel. Not only were the two of a different race, but the aura that they emitted should be different.
A Human would emit mana, while an Angel would emit holy energy.
Surely, the Dark Elves wouldn’t make a reckless mistake.
“I understand, but a Human posing as an Angel is easy to do,” Vivian explained. “Appearance-wise, the two have many similarities now. And to make it even more convincing, Richard could be wearing the unique equipment of the Angel race, their wings…”
Gelmar’s expression tensed when he heard that.
He forgot that the Angels’ wings weren’t actual wings, but a piece of equipment that represents status.
For a moment there, the two of them stared at each other.
And in the next second, they wasted no time and bolted straight to the teleportation formation chamber.
It took them seconds to reach that place—Gelmar reaching there first—and they quickly took out the elemental stones from the underground vault to activate the teleportation formation. Once it was ready, Gelmar changed the destination to the Dark Elf Kingdom.
As soon as he did that, the entire formation lit up.
Gelmar and Vivian stood at the center, knowing that they had no time to waste.
Neither of them didn’t knew if Kyran was still in the Dark Elf Kingdom with Naela or not, but regardless, they needed to be there by Naela’s side. However, their hearts sank to their stomach when the formation dimmed again.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know, the teleportation formation there should’ve picked up the cue and accepted us, but it didn’t.”
“Is it compromised…?”
Upon hearing this, Gelmar gulped harshly as that might be the case.
“If Richard was really here for days, then he must’ve already learned a lot about the cities,” He said in a troubled tone, realizing that they had been completely blindsided. “He must’ve made sure to cut off any possible ways a reinforcement could come.”
“But the guard got there earlier, so it’s fine minutes ago…” Vivian argued.
It was then, she sucked in a cold breath.
“No… He must’ve heard the guard talking about a possible intruder, so he’s now making his move!”
…
Meanwhile, the Dark Elf Kingdom.
“Hey! What are you doing there?!”
A pair of Dark Elven guards approached a man who was standing near the teleportation formation.
Since the teleportation formation was used mainly for interacting with the Silverstar Pack, or in case of an emergency, it was placed in a secluded place behind the main castle. Not any people could step into this place, especially get that close to the teleportation formation.
Hearing the shout, the man’s body froze—he tried to stay perfectly still, but he also didn’t respond.
“I’m talking to you!”
“Turn around and state who you are!”
Noticing that there was no dark nature energy coming from this man, the two Dark Elven guards knew that this man wasn’t a Dark Elf. But despite their shouts, the man didn’t answer. He only raised both his hands, showing that he wasn’t dangerous.
Slowly, the guards approached, but their swords, coated with bronze energy, were already in their hands.
If the man made any more, they would slice him into three pieces in an instant.
When one of the guards grabbed the man’s shoulder and turned him around, they were met with a clearly nervous smile. A bead of cold sweat slid down the man’s cheek, but more striking than his unease, he was unmistakably Human.
A Human managing to reach this deep into the Supernatural territory, his origin was clear.
Dargena City.
But still, the Dark Elven guards needed to be sure.
“Who are you, and how did you get here?”
“Haven’t you noticed where I’m from?” The man asked, gesturing to his armor with his eyes.
Just then, the two guards realized that the armor he was wearing was Red Prudian armor.
It was a unique set of armor exclusive only to the Clarentium Empire.
To show that the armor was real, not a counterfeit, the man infused energy into it, activating the armor’s known ability to generate heat. Noticing the steam sizzling from the armor, the guards instantly lowered their weapons.
“Forgive us, we are not aware…”
“We aren’t trying to make trouble.”
Both of the guards apologized; their demeanor changed instantly, turning amenable.
“Haha~!” The man laughed humorously, scratching the back of his head. “It’s fine, it’s fine! Both of you are only doing your job. This is clearly my fault, I got lost. And besides, there’s still a rat around, so you did a good job.”
Hearing this made the two guards ease a bit.
Offending someone from the Clarentium Empire wouldn’t be good for them, so this was relieving.
The Dark Elf Kingdom has caused too many problems for the Emperor already. And now, they were standing on fragile, cracked ice, and the only way to mend the ice was to serve the Emperor and the empire the best they could.
As the guards were sighing easily, the man smirked at them.
‘Oh… That’s cute. Supernaturals being courteous to Humans… such a refreshing sight.’
‘But what’s with their reaction? I know this kingdom is a part of his, but this… they are scared of me, scared of offending the empire. Ah… So that’s how it is… It’s going to be easy from here on out, then.’
Right when the guards focused on the man again, the smirk disappeared as fast as the blowing wind.
He was now smiling pliantly, neutral and trustworthy.
One that made people comfortable around him.
“I wasn’t told about anyone from the empire coming today,” One of the guards finally said, looking at the man with polite curiosity. “Are you perhaps with the royal guard earlier? Did she forget about you and leave you behind?”
“Yes, I was with her, but I didn’t get left behind,” The man tapped the guard’s shoulder. “In truth, Kyran sent me here to protect Naela.”
“Don’t you mean Lord Kyran?”
“I apologize, silly me… I was close with Lord Kyran, and I forgot that he’s a Lord now. You know, the empire is new, so we’re still establishing our socials. Anyway, Lord Kyran didn’t trust you guys to keep Lady Naela safe, so he sent me.”
Hearing this, the two guards exchanged a look.
Considering that the Silverstar Pack’s Luna was harmed here, this was not surprising.
Even though this is Naela’s home, it was still understandable for Kyran not to trust them.
“Can you please show me the way to her? I’d really appreciate it,” The man paused, and realized that the guards were still hesitant. “Of course, if you still don’t trust me, I’ll go back and contact Lord Kyran to verify my identity.”
“No, no, no, there’s no need for that,” One guard waved his hands frantically. “Please, follow me.”
“Thanks a lot!” The man thanked and followed the two guards from behind.
Along the way, the man kept his head down.
But he still stole glances around, finding that the Dark Elven Kingdom was nothing special.
‘I can sense their King, he’s stronger, that’s for certain. But other than that, it’s pretty standard.’
Soon enough, the man was surprised to find that he was being brought into the Great Tree, where there seemed to be houses inside wrapped in branches, vines, and leaves. He was brought to one above—a secluded place, which was reserved only for the most noble.
Naela, the woman who united the Dark Elf Kingdom and the Clarentium Empire, fit that title.
Coursing through the corridor, the guards finally came to a stop in front of a door.
“Do you want us to announce you?”
“Please… Absolute politeness is what Lady Naela deserved.”
Nodding his head, the guard knocked on the door gently.
“My Lady, an esteemed guard from the capital city has come to meet you. He said he was sent here by Lord Kyran to guard you.”
“Let him in!”
Naela instructed from the inside, her muffled voice could be heard clearly.
Once they got her permission, the guards turned towards the man.
“You can step inside now.”
“Thank you. I’ll make sure to give good words to Lord Kyran back home.”
As the man was about to reach for the door handle, the guard to his right placed a hand on his chest.
“Back home…?” He repeated what the man said.
“Hmm? Yes, back in the capital city.” The man raised an eyebrow, confused. “What’s wrong?”
Upon hearing this, the guards could feel their blood run cold.
At the exact same time, both of them came to the same realization.
“But Lord Kyran isn’t in the capital city…”
For a moment there, the moment seemed to pause with the guards staring at the man tensely.
First, the man forgot to address Kyran with ‘Lord’, and now, he didn’t know where Kyran was.
Not to mention, though the guards tried to hide it, they could feel something was off about the man.
Call it an expert sense.
Being a guard for a hundred years made them quite good at sensing a threat.
Appearance-wise, the man fitted the perfect appearance of a soldier from Dargena City—he wore the Red Prudian armor and seemed to be a force user from the sharp sting of his aura. But despite that, the two guards felt that he was superficial.
It was as if they were staring at a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Now, those consecutive small mistakes confirmed their suspicion.
The man wasn’t from Dargena City, he was the infiltrator!
“Hah… I must’ve overplayed my hand. But hey, it doesn’t matter. Once again, thank you for bringing me here.”
