She was all over confused as subconsciously, Veronica got up to realize that there was no piece of his clothing as well. No presence of his made her heart a bit pounded in her chest as she realized something. "Did he just leave like that.."
Last night, they both had a few good talks to share, where Veronica instantly felt her pain had eased up to the great extent.
He was a sweet guy, without any ill intentions. In fact, he hadn't brought any vulgarity though. Once she had openly said no to having sex, he never pastured her.
Moreover, he had given her company for the entire night...
She remembered the man had slept just beside her. She was damn sure! Removing the blanket, Veronica walked to the washroom to see if he was there but found no sight. Looking everywhere, his jacket was missing already, as well as shoes, to finally confirm her suspicion.
Veronica's lips were tightly formed into the thin line before she yawned again to walk close to her study table. But what she saw out there was a small pancake, attached with a handwritten note.
~I know you will be surprised after I leave since we shared such deep talks last night. Take me as your healer for the last night...if it is written in our fate, we will meet again!~
~Max~
After reading the same, Veronica had no words to describe feelings. Or maybe, she had no feelings even, because the man was simply what he called himself...her healer for a night. As she grabbed the note closer to her heart, Veronica's mind traveled back to the time when they had the talk and he appeared to be happy.
Why was he in such a hurry to leave her? It made no sense to Veronica but her heart did miss him... it is obvious!
Taking the peak at the letter again, she finally calmed herself. 'Yes..if it is written to meet..we will meet again Max. And this time.. for longer..'
...
As the time passed she was left with the same work to manage her father. As the weeks passed, what Veronica came across was the wedding card of her best friend and his wife.
But her best friend was the same person from whom she had to recover. Sitting at her desk, Veronica stared at the wedding card that was present in her hand and a sigh escaped her lips.
She brought her hands to her forehead to manage them tenderly. 'And I Can't even miss this... what a problem!'
It should be the least of her worries. But she was worried, what was the rush for them to just get married so quickly? They all just graduated and were hardly twenty-two!
Gulping the saliva present in her mouth, Veronica finally took a deep breath to not let her emotions come over. At last, she did agree to attend, while keeping a heavy stone over her heart, in the hope that God might bless her in the other way...
.....
The day of the wedding arrived very soon, and Veronica had decided to dress up in the pearl blue one-piece.
Taking a deep breath, she was currently sitting inside her car in the parking. At this point, her heart was crumbling into pieces at the thought that she would be witnessing Tristan taking vows with someone else.
With the multiple attempts, she had got used to this but not entirely. It will hurt for the last time today, Veronica told herself for encouragement.
With this steady thought that resided in her brain, Veronica finally opened the door where she took her clutch into her hands. Walking inside the destination, she saw that it was all decorated with flowers.
It looked amazing, and she knew that everything was as per the bride's choice.
Entering the venue, she walked inside to come across Tristan's parents, whom she greeted with a smile. They too, had wonderful interactions with her, before she walked slower towards her best friend..who appeared to be dashing in his black suit.
Keeping a faint smile, she waved at him before walking closer, "You look good." was the first thing she told, to which Tristan laughed, "Obviously! Who doesn't look happy and smart on their wedding day, hmm?"
"Y-yeah.." Veronica did laugh a bit with him, but her heart was still feeling the arrows. It was hard to resist, but she managed to keep calm.
But then, she heard his words, "V, is everything fine, right?"
Lifting her face, she looked confused by his words, "What do you mean?" In return, Tristan looked here and there before answering, "You haven't called me for so long. I mean, is everything with you? Are you going through something?"
"Everything is good! Just busy with work..." was a short reply from her, not giving any hint about her situation either.
If she had kept her love for him a secret, let it go away in the secret as well.
It was better off in that way, at least she can still be friends with him. If her one-sided love is supposed to end this way, Veronica was happily letting it be placed.
As the conversation progressed with time, Tristan's eyes fell on the man who stood at a certain distance, behind Veronica's back.
Waving his hand at him, he signaled him to come in their direction, where he gazed back at Veronica to say, "I would actually like you to meet with someone.."
"Who?" Veronica asked curiously before she saw a tall man coming from her back standing beside Tristan, giving her a mini heart attack at the spot.
Meanwhile, Tristan kept his hand on the man's shoulders before proudly commenting, "Meet Max Smith, my and my bride's mutual friend. He was the one who helped us in the meeting.."
"And Max, she is Veronica Martin.." Tristan's eyes were sparkling while introducing both of them.
As he patted his shoulders again, the smile was reaching up to his ears, curving his eyes.
However, the same can't be said for Veronica who was dumbfounded and frozen. In fact, she could feel her legs were a bit trembling, even her expressions were on the edge of betraying her.
"T-this...is..your friend?" she asked to confirm.
Whereas in return, Tristan happily nodded his head. "Oh, he is. I shall be a bit busy today, so this gentleman can actually accompany you today.." Hearing this, Veronica's eyes averted to see Max, who stood still.
Gulping her saliva, Veronica didn't seem to react but her heart did flush. It was hard to digest.
Soon, even Tristan left both of them alone where Veronica's heart was smashed into the pieces and horror placed over it.
Averting her gaze at his face, she saw Max was still acting aloof and distant, but she can't hold her inner devil. "You knew Tristan when I told you about him, that day?!!?"
