The Runic Alchemist

Chapter 617 - 617: The Dark War 12

Damian quickly used a waygate before the Demon Lord could make any more limbs to catch him and came out flying beside Sam—he was still fighting against a swarm of flying monsters. Lucian had also woken up and was doing the same. She was still breathing heavily though, and Damian had sensed her mana being completely drained out before.

Both Sam and Lucian, and all his friends, had used the liquid mana a lot of times to replenish their own mana pool—they could not handle the strain as well.

It took a second for Damian to assess the situation. He immediately launched more than 15 laser spells at once, placed all around them—giving them a place to breathe. Any flying monster trying to get close was obliterated beyond recognition. The lasers were much smaller than before, only going for a few meters, but they did their job against the flying monsters.

Damian made an air step big enough for all three of them to stand on. Damian could see the Demon Lord trying to reconstruct its body, absorbing all the dark energy of his army in a large quantity this time. He was preparing for another charge.. this one towards the city if he did not stay behind here.

“What happened? Are you okay? I thought he crushed you..” Sam said.

“I am fine..” Damian replied and quickly grabbed Lucian’s hand and sensed every single part of her body for any trace of black energy.

There was none. She was not infected by it—it must take time to change people. Finally, something in their favor.

He exhaled in relief and noticed Lucian intently looking at his face. Even covered in black blood, sweating, and a mess of hair.. she still looked so breathtakingly beautiful. This was no time for such a thing though—Damian smiled at her and looked toward Sam.

“Both of you go back.. I doubt the shrine will last for long. Go back to Earth. I already sent waygate tools that open in the Highsword Dungeon. Let Mindseer look if the pigmen kids and women could go there to have a chance at life.. leave this world—with everyone.”

“What about you?” Lucian asked, pressing on his hand, which was still in her hand.

Damian did not answer, simply looking in the distance where the Demon Lord’s body was reforming.

“He is too powerful.. We can all just leave this place, Damian,” Sam said.

Damian gnashed his teeth and a deep sound came out, “I have to kill him.”

“No. You want to kill him,” Lucian said, her tone harsher than usual. She let go of his hand even.

Damian looked back at her, “You have the sword. Come to me after everyone is gone. Till then, I am going to do this.”

Damian opened a waygate after saying it. Lucian looked away, but Sam tapped on his shoulder, smiling while mouthing a silent “Good luck.” It made him smile even in this situation.

Lucian did not look back at all as she walked up to the waygate—only before entering, she turned back slightly, her eyes glistening with held-back tears. It felt wrong.. but they don’t get it. After what Damian had seen—the black pigmen turning back to normal—this was not a simple fight for vengeance or guilt anymore. He had to try. Because of him, millions had died.. He would never be able to sleep with peace knowing his actions had destroyed a whole world.

He had to make things right.

The two finally left. Damian’s mana cubes had also gathered enough liquid mana—before the Demon Lord got a chance to attack, Damian healed his injuries slightly, activated his full aura-enhancing Sacrium Armor—Damian shot through straight. Of course, he had left a massive solid golden square behind for all the flying nuisance following him. The light construct’s explosion went off, even though in midair—it shook the whole valley and beyond.

The wave pushed Damian even further as he summoned his spear and targeted the most condensed dark energy-filled part of the Demon Lord’s body and sent a giant light laser there: the abyssal dark head.

The Demon Lord had already managed to remake a few of his arms and swords held in them. Two swords placed right before his face blocked the laser—absorbing the power like the solid darkness that made the swords was immune to light element totally. The laser was just a distraction though. Damian opened a large horizontal waygate directly beneath the enormous feet of the Demon Lord, connected to the lava zone where the Sun God used to be imprisoned. But..

The Demon Lord did not go through the waygate—he was.. flying. If he could fly, why didn’t he do it before? No, that was not right—he couldn’t fly. The darkness.. it had no weight. It was completely in the control of the Demon Lord’s main body—somewhere in that darkness, Land Breaker’s body was holding the dark giant form all around him.

It had to be the face. That was the first thing that materialized when the Demon Lord arrived.

Earlier, when Damian had made contact with the giant dark figure, he had tried to take his ID, but the spell did not consider the Demon Lord alive at all. It didn’t work. He had to get close to the real body for it to work. Even then, the Demon Lord could switch to any of the millions of black pigmen and their evolved versions’ bodies.

Damian understood the frustration of all the people who might have felt it while facing such a fucked-up opponent.

Damian launched dark flames from his hands and feet and doubled his speed—along with himself charging forward, Damian launched multiple runic spells that produced over hundreds of dense spheres of boiling fire—the Mini Sun Spell of Sulthar. It also had light element mixed in. The black sword could stop his attacks, but could it be fast enough to stop all his attacks?

Damian’s aim was the head of the Demon Lord. His speed far outpaced the slow-moving dozen hands of the Demon Lord as he zigzagged in midair, inching closer and closer to his target.
