“A high energy reaction has been detected from Platinum Workshop No. 2!”
“The energy level is rising continuously… it has breached Level V!”
“What on earth did he do?”
In another part of the factory, images of Su Lu performing as if he was a deity were projected on the screen.
Many of the researchers were utterly confused, as though their worldview had taken a shocking hit: “What’s going on exactly? It used to be just a pile of junk, a shell of a thing when put together. How could it suddenly show this kind of reaction? It’s as if the mecha now suddenly has a soul.”
“Record it. Record everything…”
The person in charge wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, equally baffled: “This should be the pinnacle of Level V mechas, a strategic resource of the Kingdom…”
“Yes, it’s truly beautiful, isn’t it?”
A voice interjected from outside.
“Hm? Who is it?”This was a highly classified area, and ordinary people didn’t even have the right to know about its existence.
The person in charge turned around to see a handsome blond young man dressed in a white suit, his outer cloak flapping. He couldn’t help but bow, “Lord Avis!”
The genius mecha designer of the kingdom, he was regarded as a rising star, and further, he was one of Prince’s men.
“The peak-level mecha is also my hope to further advance…”
Avis stared at the screen obsessively, as if he were gazing at a peerless beauty.
“No … Lord Avis, this mecha was custom-designed for Mr. Morphy. Furthermore, there’s the matter with James and Sha Lina…”
The person in charge was immediately drenched in sweat, his voice shaking.
“We are currently at war. By appointment, I have the right to employ any resources that could be advantageous in a war.” Avis sighed lightly. “James and Sha Lina… While I usually don’t wish to provoke them, there’s no question about it right now.”
“As for the value of the researchers? We’re currently at war. We have neither the time nor the resources to wait for their growth…”
It was clear that he had thought everything through.
The war was the most pressing matter at hand! A top-tier mecha not only represented the hope of survival, but it also stood as a converter of merits and honor!
Such large gains and allure were enough for him to take the risk!
“And … As I recall, Morphy is also a mecha designer. He should consider himself lucky that I’m not forcibly enlisting him at this time. Moreover, there’s the murder case, and his attack on the investigator…”
Avis paused for a bit: “I will push for this matter, to bring Morphy to judgement.”
Moving ahead with the case from the investigator’s side could at least make Morphy and his people panic. Even if they managed to slip away, they would have to pay a substantial price!
For instance… this mecha!
The person in charge was rendered speechless.
He knew that the kingdom didn’t particularly view Morphy favorably, though one of the princesses did take note of him.
However, compared to the third prince backing Avis, these factors paled in comparison.
Perhaps, this was why he dared to take action.
…
‘I have a premonition…things are not going to run smoothly.’
After exiting the factory, the first light of dawn was already visible.
Su Lu rubbed his temples and sighed lightly.
This wasn’t a ‘prophecy’, but the instinct of a [Fate Manipulator].
Having repeatedly challenged ‘fate’, fate was sure to retaliate with greater intensity!
‘But there’s really nothing…The Phantom Mecha is essentially completed, it can be activated now, and its core is completely imprinted with my mark… Just upon a thought, I could flee into the Spirit World, and traverse in the Spirit World to anywhere… It’s wholly possible to break tricks with force!’
‘The only thing to worry about is the people around me being implicated… In this respect, preparations must be made early.’
While sending a message, Su Lu found a coffee shop that was still open. He ordered a steak and coffee for breakfast.
Just as he leisurely sliced his steak, the atmosphere in the shop suddenly went quiet.
The cafe door was pushed open, and a young man with golden hair, wearing a handsome white suit, who seemed a member of high society, entered. He sat across from Su Lu without a word.
“Allow me to introduce myself, I’m called Avis.”
He spoke with an polite smile.
“Avis?” Su Lu didn’t even lift his head as he forked a fried egg, “I don’t know you…”
“….”
Avis’s expression froze momentarily, soon to be replaced with a cold, stern look. “I want you to help me build a set of mecha… just like the one you just built, how about it?”
“I don’t have the time or the materials…”
Su Lu furrowed his brows.
He had expected trouble the moment the mecha was nearly complete. This was within his calculations.
“I am a soldier of the Empire, I am about to go to the front to fight, it’s a battle for the survival of humanity, everyone must support, especially the personnel at the back!”
Avis deliberately emphasized the last phrase as his mood turned bitter.
Despite having intended to seize the mecha, he felt he still left some dignity to Morphy by choosing to proceed under the pretext of a trade.
“Or else?”
Su Lu continued to eat leisurely, oblivious to the threat.
“Otherwise… I have the right to forcefully conscript. Like the one you have now.”
Avis couldn’t restrain himself anymore and said this with a growl.
“If you had said this earlier, it would have made things easier. If you want to rob, just admit it…”
Su Lu put down his knife and fork, and the challenging smile on his face said, “Come at me then!”
‘Is this person… mad?’
Avis’s facial expression was somewhat astonished.
Little did he know, Su Lu considered him a part of ‘fate’s backlash’.
At once, Avis’s face became ferocious, growling, “Morphy… You are not a law-abiding citizen, be it the previous cases involving Claude, Vulture, or several recent public security cases, you can’t escape any of these…We make a trade, you give me that mecha, and I’ll cover these up for you, this is my last act of kindness.”
“I refuse…”
Su Lu’s reply remained cold and hard.
“That is truly regrettable, you have lost your last chance, lost a friend, and gained an enemy.”
Avis stood up in a composed manner, feeling that having any more conversation with the person before him would only lower his IQ.
At this point, shouldn’t a normal person back down?
Who does he think he is? Can he oppose the whole kingdom?
If these matters were to be exposed, what he will face is not just the persecution of investigators. If he dares to resist, it’s treason!
What gave him such courage?
But… it doesn’t matter anymore.
Avis stood up, and left the cafe.
Outside, a dozen investigators in black trench coats had been waiting.
“I authorize you, proceed!”
He looked at Locke, his voice low: “The people who enter first, might die!”
“For the kingdom, we fear nothing.”
Locke growled and strode into the cafe, standing before Su Lu: “Mr. Morphy, we suspect that you are involved in several cases, please come with us to assist the investigation!”
