Chapter 324: Just Want to See
Min Yu Han naturally won’t ask Jing Wan’s reason for appearing here, instead just briefly and concisely explained his purpose in coming.
Towards the things presented up, Li Hong Yuan lacked interest. Rather, it was Jing Wan that directly opened them up, flipping through those proof of crime, precisely the things that the Pei clan leader had let someone send to the Min clan. The Min clan didn’t really reorganize them, having one sheet per person. This was ten some sheets, meaning that there was ten some people being suspected of crime. However, comparatively speaking, these actually can only be considered ‘petty skirmishes’. Just there were two among them……….Jing Wan’s gaze sharpened, deliberately pulling them out, and immediately handed them over to Li Hong Yuan.
The things handed over by others, Li Hong Yuan may not necessarily accept, but the things from Jing Wan’s hands, he certainly will accept. He lightly straightened out the letter paper, and quickly read through, “According to Qi Yuan’s law, one is a capital offense, and the other one, a heavy sentence would also be the death penalty. From the looks of it, your Min clan wants to have them preserved?”
“Vermin of Qi Yuan, disaster of the Min clan, such people, not worth pitying in death.” As a member of a large influential clan, some would always feel that they are a cut above others, and moreover, always think that for all things, there was the family clan as one’s backing. The ones whose brain was a bit more sober were still okay, nothing more than just ‘petty skirmishes’, but the ones whose brain wasn’t sober, they would just think that their own family clan can contend against the entire country, and they can just do whatever they wanted. Sometimes, one inevitably need to give these people a lesson, and at the same time, also ‘kill the chicken to warn the monkey’. Of course, from Min Yu Han’s standpoint, it wasn’t really for the sake of the Min clan’s foundation.
Speaking from a certain perspective, sensible people further made one have good feelings towards than insensible people.
“As expected of a large influential family, this level of generosity just isn’t ordinary.” Jing Wan lightly smiled.
Li Hong Yuan turned his head, seeing the silver banknotes Jing Wan took out, a total of five rolls. If there’s no mishap, then each roll should have a hundred sheets, the denomination of each sheet ten thousand. Five million taels, wasn’t this precisely extraordinary? Was an ordinary person able to casually take out this much? However, as a large influential family, if it was just a few hundred thousand, then that would probably be abnormal.
Min Yu Han didn’t know how much money his older brother prepared, having never opened it to check. Casting a glance, he also had an understanding inside. This amount actually wasn’t considered little, but in Min Yu Han’s eyes, it was still too little. However, he won’t say anything. This wasn’t within the scope of his authority.
“Min Yu Han, you’re a smart person, and this prince also isn’t a stingy person.” The underlying meaning was just, as long as you don’t do something to make him unhappy, then naturally all is well for everyone.
“Wangye can rest assured.” He originally just planned on helping Jin Qinwang do things, doing everything he can. He was very clear of what he should do, and what he shouldn’t do.
“Wangye, this wife sees that the time is also getting late, how about keeping Mister Min for the meal? ———What does Mister Min think?”
Min Yu Han’s gaze slightly flickered. How to put it, for this kind of thing, it should be for Jin Qinwang to nod first, but Jin Wangfei seemingly just informed him, and then just asked for his opinion. It can be seen, Jin Wangfei, in front of Jin Qinwang, very much had speaking authority. It can be seen, Jin Wangfei’s position in Jin Qinwang’s heart was indeed very important. The two of them haven’t been married for long, and Jin Wangfei’s birth and upbringing all weren’t lacking, yet to be able to be this casual, it can be seen, she was also genuinely close with Jin Qinwang. This was very good. The two of them mutually understanding and mutually wanting to be together, there’s naturally nothing better than this. “It’s this commoner’s honor.”
“Wangye can continue chatting with Mister Min, this wife will go let the people prepare.”
Li Hong Yuan indifferently nodded.
Jing Wan got up and left.
Because there was an outsider present, he as the host, naturally have to keep company, so obviously can’t use the meal together with his own wife. This made Li Hong Yuan a bit annoyed, and looking to Min Yu Han, that gaze naturally just unconsciously grew a bit colder.
Min Yu Han was a bit confused, not knowing where he’d offended this one. Fortunately, Li Hong Yuan didn’t really lash out, absentmindedly asking some questions to things that he wanted to know, and that the other party also might be able to give the answer to. For Min Yu Han, naturally it was just stating everything he knew.
Have to say, abandoning the rest, Jin Qinwang and Min Yu Han actually chatted quite congenially. Min Yu Han in the beginning was still shocked at Li Hong Yuan’s scholarly learning and insight, but subsequently just sighed. This was Guan Guan’s child. Guan Guan was exceptionally intelligent to begin with, so her child naturally won’t be inferior in any way. Moreover, he was born in the imperial family. Although that place was like a dragon pool and tiger den, but one still can’t deny its outstanding areas. As for Li Hong Yuan, towards Min Yu Han’s scholarly knowledge, he rather didn’t have any thoughts. Truthfully speaking, if Min Yu Han was unable to reach this sort of level, then he would really feel dull, and this person probably would also be discarded by him and not be used.
(T/N: Honestly LHY only could have gotten his intelligence from his mother, because Le Cheng Emperor obviously doesn’t have much.)
The afternoon meal probably can be considered ‘the host and guest both pleased’.
Afterwards, Min Yu Han bid his farewell. He didn’t ask Jin Qinwang how he will deal with those people of the Min family. He didn’t want to ask, and it also wasn’t necessary.
In Qi Yuan, after successfully passing the highest level of the imperial exam, although one can return to take up post in one’s ancestral hometown, but this kind of situation was very rare. Those people of the Min clan, not many were in Jiangnan, and were scattered all over Qi Yuan. The most serious two both weren’t in Jiangnan, so clearly need to ‘settle the score after autumn’. Min Yu Han got on the horse carriage, and closed his eyes, contemplating his next step.
Li Hong Yuan had the remaining five million taels of banknotes directly given to Jing Wan, and expressed that it was Jing Wan’s private asset.
“Wangye not only has one’s own little treasury given to this wife, this is even letting this wife have one’s own little treasury?” Jing Wan teased.
“What’s wrong with that? As long as a woman with a dowry, which one doesn’t have private assets?” Li Hong Yuan rightfully said.
“Right, what you said is correct.” Jing Wan giddily hugged him, “Don’t worry, I will prepare an allowance for wangye.”
“Wan Wan feels this prince needs allowance money?” Seemingly the times he’s took money from the outside were very few, and for the most part, all given to his subordinates. Although the amount each time, comparatively speaking, was a bit big, but that to him was also just a trivial matter, so shouldn’t be classified under ‘allowance’. As for his food and clothing expenses, and the such, was there even a need for him to fish money from the outside?
Jing Wan stared at Li Hong Yuan. Well, well, this is just a tyrant through and through, that kind that even without money would still be able to be carefree.
Tsk, in her past life, those that married into rich families, what did they count as? How many millions can they obtain, what expensive gifts can they obtain? Can they compare with her? After all, she has the entire sum all taken into her pockets.
“Chuanzhou Fu’s matters are more or less over with. Tomorrow, let’s go play.” Li Hong Yuan stroked the corners of Jing Wan’s hair.
This was considered more or less over with? “Those in the outer courtyard……….” Chuanzhou Fu’s account books actually have already been clearly inspected. Of course, just the accounts on the surface. However, Li Hong Yuan still had the officials detained. This is preparing to release them all back? Probably because knowing that they did it for money and not for sake of killing. The ones with relatively meager family wealth actually have already more or less fished out enough. However, some people, Jing Wan was a hundred percent certain that their family wealth was still very ample. Although those official madams all vaguely expressed that their own family was poor beyond means, but these people have already gotten on Jin Qinwang’s blacklist and was the batch that needed to be taken care of. That’s why, Jing Wan was also indifferent. Since they don’t want to give now, then will just have to wait until it gets seized.
“The Minshan County matter is already in the works of handling. Today, releasing them back, it’s just letting them be comfortable for a few days at home, before getting transferred to prison.”
“This matter probably won’t be made public, right?”
“Of course not, however, can use it to intimidate the people in the other parts of Jiangnan. As such, the later matters will go even smoother.”
Jing Wan nodded, “Chuanzhou Fu’s flourishment didn’t lose to the capital. And Linchuan River is further filled with the willow trees gently stir in the wind, the scenery charming, further having…………”
“Further having countless pleasure boats, the songstresses renowned.” Li Hong Yuan followed up.
“The one who knows me, my dear husband.” Jing Wan cutely rubbed against his embraze.
“You’re a girl.”
“But I just want to go see.”
T/N: Also somewhat relevant to this chapter, ancient banknotes. If I remember correctly, banknotes originated back in the Song dynasty, originally from wealthy merchants and loaners, but later were replaced with government issued banknotes. The first picture is a banknote from the Song dynasty, they usually had a lot of special markings and artwork to prevent counterfeiting. They came about around the time when printing became more widespread. They can be exchanged for actual gold or silver ingots, but since they were transferrable for large amounts people generally used banknotes since transporting large amounts of gold and silver isn’t exactly safe. Banknotes could also be exchanged for salt and liquor in government ran establishments.
This one below is from the Qing dynasty, the last dynasty of China. The ones from the later dynasties are better preserved. At the top, it says ‘Ministry of Revenue Government Banknote’, and next to it, I’m pretty sure it says the same thing but it Manchu, that’s how you know it’s from the Qing dyansty, since Manchu was one of the official languages next to mandarin for government documents, because the imperial family of the Qing dynasty were Manchurians.
