The two attorneys exchanged a calm, knowing glance—like they’d expected this move.
Mr. Corwin smiled faintly. “We already anticipated you might attempt public manipulation. Which is why any breach of confidentiality will immediately void your immunity offer.”
Raines added smoothly, “And may I remind you, Ms. Sophia, your previous contracts contain very specific nondisclosure and defamation clauses. Civil penalties will be significant if you violate them.”
Her stomach dropped again.
‘Shit.’
They had locked every exit.
Sophia’s hands trembled as she gripped the chair.
Her heart pounded louder than the silence in the room.
Trapped.
But even as that word echoed inside her skull like a siren, something else sparked beneath it.
Rage.
Desperation.
Survival.
She stared at them—their stiff faces, their silent judgment, the quiet little trap they thought they’d built perfectly.
No.
She wasn’t going down like this.
Not after everything. Not after how much she sacrificed. Not after how much she played to get here.
Her breath came sharp through her nose as she straightened her back, letting the mask slip into something far more dangerous.
“Well…” she began, voice softer now, but laced with that quiet venom they all knew too well, “…in that case—”
She smiled. Wide. Fake. Pretty.
“Let it be.”
Mr. Bell’s brow twitched. The attorneys exchanged a quick glance. Liam shifted, but stayed quiet.
“I mean why not?” Sophia continued, her voice tilting upward like a tease. “I already told you. I have nothing to lose.”
Her nails lightly drummed against the armrest. The sound of it filled the tension like little, rhythmic cracks against glass.
“And what I know…” she said, tilting her head at Mr. Bell specifically, “…is that my contract only prevents me from disclosing certain agency-related matters. And you know exactly what that means, Mr. Bell.”
His jaw tightened.
Sophia’s voice dipped lower, her eyes narrowing.
“It means I can’t legally spill what happened between you and me to the public without breaching the agency’s NDA.” She smiled again—sharp, like broken glass. “But your wife isn’t the public, is she?”
The air sucked out of the room.
“You’re not protected from her, Bell.”
Mr. Bell’s face went pale, but he forced himself to stay silent, fingers flexing under the table like he was trying not to crush something invisible.
“And as for you two—” Sophia’s gaze flicked like a whip toward Liam and Darren, “—do you really think you’ll just get to walk away from this?”
Her lips twitched, curling into something darker.
“I can still demand restitution. You still owe me.”
Raines leaned forward, voice still calm, but there was a crack of edge beneath it now. “Ms. Sophia, if what you want is a financial settlement, we can certainly discuss—”
Sophia cut him off, eyes flashing. “I never said I wanted money.”
The room went still again.
Corwin arched a brow. “Then what is it you’re after, Ms. Sophia?”
She exhaled, pretending to think for a moment, humming under her breath like she was savoring the moment.
“Justice,” she said finally, voice dripping with false innocence. “Corporation.”
Her smile widened like a predator playing with her food. “You see, I’ve been the victim here for so long. And no one has given me the chance to get what I deserve. Instead, you all ganged up against me to protect your pretty little careers.”
She leaned forward, resting her chin lightly on her hand. Her voice turned almost sweet.
“So if you’re not going to give me my justice… I might as well take it elsewhere.”
Corwin’s eyes sharpened. “Are you threatening to escalate this, Ms. Sophia?”
Sophia’s smile didn’t fade. “Oh, don’t make it sound so ugly. I’m simply saying… I could make it worse.”
The venom behind her words filled the room like invisible smoke.
Mr. Bell exhaled harshly through his nose. Liam muttered under his breath. Darren stared down at the table, visibly trying to stay composed.
Sophia stood now, graceful and calm, smoothing down the creases in her skirt like this was a friendly business lunch and not a declaration of war.
“Good day, gentlemen.” She turned halfway toward the door and paused for just one final stab.
“Just wait for my next move.”
And with that, she walked out.
Heels clicking softly.
Proud.
Poised.
Burning from the inside.
The door closed behind her with a heavy, final thud.
The room stayed silent for several long seconds.
Then Corwin finally spoke, his voice low. “This girl is bad.”
Raines exhaled. “Worse than I thought. I underestimated her.”
Liam shook his head slowly. “Yeah… that’s the problem.”
Mr. Bell finally spoke, voice tight. “So what should we do?”
Corwin glanced sideways, lips pressing into a thin line. “We may have closed off her legal options for public exposure. But if she decides to go private… stir the personal side of this… rally some online attention…”
Raines finished grimly. “Then this will turn into a PR war.”
Liam muttered, voice heavy. “And in PR wars? Facts don’t always matter.”
The silence thickened again.
Because they all knew—
Sophia had nothing to lose.
And that made her far more dangerous than any of them wanted to admit.
Mr. Bell huffed, leaning back in his chair, his fingers steepled under his chin. The weight pressing on his chest hadn’t lifted. In fact, it had only gotten heavier.
“PR wars aren’t good for me,” he muttered. “Or my reputation. The board won’t like the noise. My wife sure as hell won’t like the noise.”
He exhaled slowly, voice colder now. “Guess it’s time for plan B.”
Corwin narrowed his eyes. “Are you sure? If you proceed with that, we’re legally uninvolved. Completely.”
Raines nodded beside him. “Our firm cannot represent or acknowledge what happens next.”
Mr. Bell waved a hand, dismissive. “Yeah. I know.”
His fingers slid into his jacket pocket, pulling out his phone. The polished screen reflected his eyes, sharp and glassy.
Without hesitation, he tapped out a message.
Bell: Start the mission.
He hit send. The little “Delivered” icon popped up immediately.
And for the first time that entire meeting, a thin, grim smile spread across his face.
If Sophia wanted to escalate—
Then she was going to learn what real escalation looked like.
