Growing up Qilin Hao respected her elders more especially her grandmother because as long as this woman spoke her father would hold back a little.
She was like a leash strong enough to restrain a vicious dog. She rarely tugged on this leash to hold back her son but when she did it was like magic. The clan leader would listen.
Now one would think with such a superpower like this she would do good with it but no she didn't. When her son forced Qilin Hao's mother into coupling she didn't say anything.
When Qilin Hao was born and torn away from her mother she didn't even glance her way. When Qilin Hao was humiliated countless times and treated less than a servant her grandmother was nowhere to be seen.
Her silence was not because she didn't know what was happening. She knew because she was the oldest patriarch and nothing that happened in the clan blew by her. She knew it all but chose to do nothing.
That marriage Qilin Hao was almost forced onto was her grandmother's doing. She might not be the one who physically instructed her to marry but Qilin Hao's father needed the approval of the elder of the clan for it to happen.
At that time Qilin Hao was desperate to get their love and attention that she tried to get along with the arranged fiance but her physiology wouldn't allow it. She became violent towards the prospective fiancee rejecting him and what did her grandmother do?
Instead of understanding her situation and defending her like she did Qilin Kai and all her other precious grandchildren, she watched on as Qilin Hao was stripped of her title and disowned in front of the entire clan.
Now that same vile old woman was coming to her son's defence? How ridiculous. She forged Ji Yao's sword for years and put meticulous thought into it. Even before her son was born she had already designed what his sword would look like but after years of meticulous planning and hard work when it came to summoning an ancestor's divine sense for her son's sword it was her grandmother who answered the call.
The disappointment, anger and frustration from this result were beyond words and she had no other choice but to accept it.
For the most part, the old lady would be out of it anyway so she received it. Who would have thought when she became lucid her grandmother would appear in front of her in the middle of the night and come to Ji Yao's defence.
Qilin Hao scoffed as she sat down in a chair watching her grandmother. Her long hair brushed against her sheer red garments as her sickly pale fingers tapped the armrest. "My son is my business just like your son was your own business. If I could get you out of that sword and scatter your divine sense I would but.... unfortunately, I can't do anything about it."
Qilin Hao immediately stood up after that and walked towards the door at a slow pace. Her steps paused when she passed her feeble grandmother. Staring straight ahead she said, "You terrified me back then because you held my life in your hands but now.... you are just a useless divine sense that will soon lose consciousness and can only stay in a divine weapon obediently."
She turned her head slightly and looked at the old lady before saying, "In other words... you are my bitch now." She smiled slightly before walking away.
The old woman was angered to death by her but that was in essence the truth. If she stayed any longer out of that sword she would be tormented a thousand times over till she returns to that shell.
It was like being pricked by a thousand needles at the same time and the pain was amplified a hundredfold making her wish for death. She could only obediently return to the sword.
Yes, Qilin Hao was right. She barely came to her granddaughter's defence over the years and could have done a lot more. But she knew her son very well. If she held him off Qilin Hao he would vent out his anger on her other grandchildren.
She believed Qilin Hao was mentally strong enough to withstand her son's constant attacks and she was right. Qilin Hao was resilient. No matter what her son did to that little girl she would always come out on top and keep going. Hence this old woman sacrificed her granddaughter for her other grandkids' happiness.
When the issue of marriage was mentioned she was against it because if Qilin Hao decided to move to her new husband's family who would her son vent his anger on. But since it concerned the entire clan's goals she had no choice but to approve.
Who would have expected Qilin Hao to have zero compatibility with the Nocru? Her son even tried to force the union but it didn't work. His ally ended up getting beaten half to death by Qilin Hao.
This ultimately led to her getting disowned and shunned out of the clan. After that this old lady had a headache. Once, Qilin Hao, the buffer was gone her son became unbearable. He was harsher on the sweet Qilin Kai who used to hug her thigh and call grandma sweetly.
The precious grandson she adored slowly lost his smile and so did the other of her grandchildren. At that moment for the first time in her life, she regretted it.
She should never have used Qilin Hao as a buffer because all her grandchildren who had never suffered any grievance their entire lives were now bearing the heat. When she died her biggest regret was not being there for them and not having protected them enough. Maybe that is why she ended up in Ji Yao's sword. She vowed to protect the little prince from her son and Qilin Hao. Unfortunately for her, she was no longer alive but a divine sense that would forget its past most of the time.
She dejectedly faded away before returning to the sword. If she wanted to rile up Qilin Hao she could have told her who exactly her son was dating but bound by her loyalty to Ji Yao through the sword she couldn't tell her.
Besides her granddaughter seemed to have suffered so much torment. Her face was ashen and her seraphic energy weak to an alarming degree. If she didn't know any better she would have thought that person wasn't Qilin Hao.
Her ailment could only be a result of you know who's endless attacks. This was why Qilin Hao desperately needed to get those keystones but at the same time, she was putting Ji Yao at risk.
This was why this old lady felt the need to use whatever little time she had lucid to convince Qilin Hao to give back the boy's father.
