Chapter 2686 Cleaning Up
This was the kind of news that would send shockwaves not just through the city but throughout the entire ruling council.
Not only had members of the River Bending Axe Sect been defeated, but many had been left in a state of utter ruin. Some were even dead. Such an incident had never occurred in Ram Orchard City before. It was nothing short of an outright provocation—an act that challenged the power and authority of not just one sect but all the sects that governed the city alongside the noble clans.
Fear and anger would undoubtedly spread among the ruling factions. After all, if someone was bold enough to cripple an elder and publicly discard his remains at the city barracks, what was stopping them from doing worse?
This was no mere skirmish.
This was a declaration.
They would spare no expense in uncovering the identity of the one responsible.
Yet, unbeknownst to them, Lin Mu had already made peace with his actions. Normally, he wouldn't have gone to such lengths. He would have simply killed the disciples and the elder, disposing of their remains without a trace.
But this time… it was different.
They had threatened someone he considered his own. And for that, there would be no mercy.
His fury had not yet subsided. In fact, the more he thought about it, the more he felt that his payback had not been nearly enough.
If not for Meng Bai's safety ranking as his top priority, he might have already been making his way to the River Bending Axe Sect's headquarters.
He already knew where they were—six hundred kilometers away, a distance that would take him some time to cross. And while he could reach them, he knew that doing so might leave Meng Bai vulnerable should another attack come while he was away.
This was why he had already ordered Little Shrubby to return to Meng Bai's side to stand guard over him.
But without the barrier to defend the courtyard, things could turn bad very quickly.
The beast would be enough to protect Meng Bai for the time being, and if things got out of hand, he would certainly be able to escape with the boy. With his speed, no one would be able to catch him. Within minutes, he could cover hundreds of kilometers.
But that was not enough assurance for Lin Mu.
No, for now, he would wait.
But should they dare to retaliate, he would ensure that no one was left alive to seek revenge ever again.
Lin Mu began flying back toward the courtyard while Meng Bai was cleaning up.
A few minutes earlier…
"Ugh… the blood is everywhere." Meng Bai muttered as he spread soil over the places where the blood had seeped into the ground. "The roofs and walls will have to be washed too."
It had been only a short while since Lin Mu had left, and Meng Bai wasn't sure what to do. Originally, he had intended to finish absorbing the energy from the food he had eaten, but the overwhelming scent of blood in the air made it hard to focus. He reckoned that clearing it out first might help.
'I don't know when Master will be returning either,' Meng Bai thought.
Lin Mu had said nothing before leaving, and Meng Bai hadn't dared to ask him anything, seeing the sheer intensity of his expression. Now, all he could do was wait.
SPLASH
Meng Bai dipped a small bucket into a large tub of water and flung it against the blood-streaked walls.
Lin Mu had set up the tub along with a few other necessities so that they wouldn't have to waste time on such matters.
"I don't think all this water will be enough to clean the place." Meng Bai muttered, noticing that he had barely washed a single section, yet the water had already depleted by half.
ROAR!
Just as he was about to draw another bucket of water, a deafening roar rang through the air, making him stumble backward.
"What the—!" Meng Bai quickly got up, his eyes widening as he saw a large beast land in front of him.
Its sharp, needle-like pupils darted around as it scanned the surroundings, while its mouth hung slightly open, revealing rows of gleaming fangs. Flames crackled on its body, and an oppressive heat radiated from its burning red fur.
"Little Shrubby," Meng Bai realized, recognizing the beast instantly.
The massive feline stood on high alert, its stance radiating aggression. It had been ready for battle the moment it received Lin Mu's command, fully prepared to eliminate anything that posed a threat to Meng Bai.
"You're fine?" Little Shrubby growled, eyes still searching for danger.
Of course, Meng Bai had no way of understanding the beast's words, but he could guess its intent.
"Did Master send you?" Meng Bai asked cautiously.
The beast gave a firm nod.
Meng Bai sighed in relief. "Ah, good. I thought I'd be alone for a while."
He had seen the barrier get destroyed, so he knew that other beasts could now wander into the courtyard. He also knew he wouldn't be able to do much if that happened.
What he didn't know was that Lin Mu's lingering aura alone was enough to ward off any creatures that might have considered approaching. In fact, most of the beasts within a thirty-kilometer radius had already fled the moment Lin Mu unleashed his power. Terrified by his presence, they wouldn't dare return anytime soon.
However, there was no guarantee that stronger beasts wouldn't be drawn in by the scent of blood. That made Little Shrubby's presence an additional assurance.
"Cleaning?" Little Shrubby asked, glancing at the bloodied walls and gesturing toward them with his paw.
"Yeah," Meng Bai replied. He hesitated before adding, "But I don't think we can wash all of this off."
In response, Little Shrubby tapped his chest with his paw, signaling something.
"You're going to help?" Meng Bai guessed.
The beast nodded again.
Meng Bai gave a small smile. "Alright, let's do it."
