Chapter 2689 Meng Bai's First High Speed Flight
As they shot across the sky like a meteor, Meng Bai could only hear the roaring wind in his ears, his heart pounding in both fear and exhilaration.
'How fast are we going!?' he thought, but he dared not open his eyes to check.
Lin Mu, meanwhile, remained calm, his sharp gaze scanning the horizon. He knew that they had little time before the sect began its search in earnest.
"CAN YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE WIND!?" Meng Bai could only shout, or his voice might not be heard at all.
SHUA
In response, Lin Mu placed a talisman onto his back that covered him in a barrier.
"This will help," he said, making Meng Bai take a breath of relief.
He could now open his eyes without his eyelids getting pushed back by the wind pressure.
"This is so fast," Meng Bai said as he glanced below him.
He couldn't even see individual trees; all he saw was a blur. They were moving far too fast for him to perceive details. But still, there were a few large landmarks that he could spot in the distance.
"Wait a second… isn't that the Bent Neck Mountain!?" Meng Bai spotted a tall mountain in the distance.
Quite like its name, it vaguely resembled a man tilting his head downward.
"It should be," Lin Mu said, narrowing his eyes.
"But… that's supposed to be over a hundred kilometers from the Thumb Hill." Meng Bai remembered before finally realizing something. "We covered over a hundred kilometers in just a few minutes!?" He could not comprehend it.
It was not a kind of speed he had ever moved at, even when flying with Lin Mu.
Compared to this, he may as well have been moving at a snail's pace.
Overall, it had only been ten minutes or so since their departure, and they had already come this far.
"We're flying at a speed of ten kilometers per minute? Six hundred kilometers per hour!" Meng Bai calculated.
"At least I won't have to teach you arithmetic," Lin Mu chuckled in response.
"If we keep this speed, we'll reach the end of the Ram Orchard Forest in just an hour," Meng Bai said, still feeling shocked.
"We won't go that far," Lin Mu replied.
"Still… this is so fast," Meng Bai couldn't help but repeat.
He knew that immortals could fly fast, but he was sure they didn't fly this fast.
"Little Shrubby can go even faster," Lin Mu added.
"What?" Meng Bai was utterly stunned.
This wasn't even his peak speed. If he wished, he could easily reach a thousand kilometers per hour or even more.
The boy was stunned into silence and didn't even know what to think.
In the meantime, Lin Mu talked with Little Shrubby.
"Since you were exploring earlier, did you find any good places for us to set up camp?" Lin Mu asked the beast.
"Yes! There are a few I saw," Little Shrubby replied.
"Take us to the one that seems best," Lin Mu stated.
"On it!" Little Shrubby said before changing direction slightly.
But that slight change in direction was enough to jerk Meng Bai, making him feel like he was going to hurl everything he had eaten earlier. It took all his willpower to keep it inside.
'I can't waste this! I can't waste all the energy!' was all he repeated in his mind, trying to calm his belly.
"Focus on assimilating the energy for now," Lin Mu suggested to him.
"O-okay…" Meng Bai said with some difficulty.
'Hmm, maybe I should prepare some herbs that can help with nausea next time,' Lin Mu took note.
He did have some of them in his ring from what he remembered, but he would still need to find the ones that would suit Meng Bai. He couldn't feed him Immortal herbs after all, and he lacked spirit herbs with that quality.
For now, Lin Mu kept an eye on the ground and observed for any movements.
'The River Bending Axe Sect certainly won't be able to follow us at this speed or get this far,' Lin Mu thought to himself. 'Though there might still be other dangers.'
With that in mind, he communicated with Little Shrubby to ask him about various beasts he had seen so far. Little Shrubby quickly told him about them through their mental link, and Lin Mu got an idea of what to expect.
'Hmm, there aren't any significantly strong beasts here. The strongest one is a Fifth Tribulation Stage Night Run Wolf, and the other beasts are at the Fourth and Third Tribulation Stage of the Immortal realm.' Lin Mu assessed that they wouldn't be having any trouble.
Even if they did, he would much rather deal with beasts than humans any day.
A few more minutes later, the scenery below changed, and Lin Mu could now see a long, winding river. The river seemed to be coming from far in the south and bent toward the east a little distance from where Lin Mu was.
'That should be the Tributary of the Great Eastern River,' Lin Mu guessed.
It looked big, but it was still just a tributary of an even bigger river.
The tributary seemingly reached a cliff and flowed down as a waterfall, creating a large lake.
The lake shimmered under the night stars while the two moons in the sky reflected their twins in the water.
This was the very lake that was Little Shrubby's target. He brought them to a ridge located a short distance from the waterfall and landed next to the trees.
THUD
"Huh?" Meng Bai opened his eyes, finding that they had stopped. "We're there?" He looked around and saw the large waterfall next to them, as well as the vast lake below.
He tilted his head in confusion before he realized where they were.
"The Middle Ring Lake! We already got this far!?" Meng Bai finally recognized it.
It was a well known place all across the Ram Orchard City.
