Chapter 2899: The Collapsing Monk's And Hope

Another week passed beneath the weight of the unseen mountain.

Each day, the gravitational pressure grew subtly more intense, like a tightening noose. The monks, hardened by decades of cultivating the Great Burden Sutra, endured in silence—until the silence was broken.

One afternoon, a dull thud echoed through the monastery halls.

Then another.

Lin Mu turned, eyes narrowing as he sensed the disruption. A quick surge of Immortal sense revealed the cause—three monks had collapsed in their main chambers. Their bodies trembled, pulses erratic, skin slick with sweat. The strain had finally surpassed their limits.

Without hesitation, Lin Mu rushed to them and dropped to his knees.

His hands placed on above their bodies as he began to chant.

"Embrace the Heart of Nature and bask in its benevolence. Cleanse your heart and purify all that taints the worlds.…"

His voice echoed gently, a golden glow radiating from his hands as the Healing Heart Sutra surged forth.

Warmth spread through the monks' bodies. Their pallor faded, breathing stabilized, and tremors stilled. The pressure still loomed, but their vitality returned—and more importantly, their spirits rekindled.

The monks slowly opened their eyes, surprise and gratitude mingling in their gazes.

"You… What technique was that?" one whispered, tears welling in the corners of his eyes.

"I feel… light. Lighter than I've felt in years," said another, his shoulders trembling.

Lin Mu offered them a small smile. "It's a skill I obtained due to luck in the Green Lotus Temple. It won't remove the burden, but it will help you carry it longer."

The monks clasped their hands together in prayer and bowed deeply.

But Lin Mu's smile faded as he stood.

"How could I have overlooked this…" he muttered, guilt biting at him.

He should have thought of this earlier. The Healing Heart Sutra could have eased their suffering from the beginning. But he had been too consumed by the rift, too focused on the danger, too distracted to see the people around him.

Perhaps… that was the gravity too.

He turned his gaze inward, contemplating the pressure not only on his body—but his mind. Was it affecting his thoughts? Warping his judgment?

"No wonder everyone here feels weighed down, even in thought," he murmured. "I should let everyone have some respite." he muttered as he chanted the Healing Heart Sutra again, spreading the effects all over the temple.

The monks were rejuvenated and felt like they had grown years younger. But it left Lin Mu extremly tired, his immortal qi stores nearly at the rock bottom.

"That was... A bit much..." Never had Lin Mu used the Healing Heart Sutra on so many people before.

While they weren't injured, they were certainly exhausted beyond limit. If they really were injured Lin Mu might've passed out from the draining of qi. He quickly replenished his immortal qi with some pills and Immortal stones, recovering to his peak in a day.

He then clasped his hands again.

This time, he began to chant the Calming Heart Sutra.

A wave of clarity spread through the monastery. The ambient tension—barely noticeable before—lifted like a veil. The monks, still seated in meditation, drew deeper breaths. The trembling in their hands eased. The pain in their brows softened.

Lin Mu's own thoughts aligned like pieces falling into place.

Then it came to him—sudden, obvious, and yet entirely missed before.

"Why didn't I just go to him directly?"

He slapped his forehead lightly, shaking his head.

"I've been calling out with my soul… but Xukong is inside my ring. Of course I can go to him in person!"

Without wasting another breath, Lin Mu activated his connection to the ring, slipping into the inner space that few could even fathom.

Inside the ring, space was always strange.

The air shimmered with chaotic streaks of spatial turbulence, like lightning frozen mid-flight. Mountains of materials, were scattered in rings. Shelves upon shelves were stacked in a neat order, having been organized by Lin Mu himself.

Yet at the heart of it all, there was one constant.

Xukong.

The Void Weaver spider rested in a hollow formed from crystallized space, nestled between two arcs of spatial energy that he was steadily absorbing. Eight legs tucked beneath him, and his long, silken whiskers shifted ever so slightly, as if stirred by a breath that hadn't been exhaled.

His ten closed eyes gave the impression of eternal slumber.

Lin Mu approached slowly, heart pounding, unsure if even this would work.

"Senior," he called out, his voice reverent. "Please… I need your help."

Silence.

Lin Mu stepped closer. "Senior Xukong…"

Still nothing.

He grit his teeth, clenching his fists. Then he knelt before the ancient being and closed his eyes, pouring all his will and intent into a single word.

"Master!"

A beat passed.

Then a flicker.

One eye opened.

Then two. Then four.

And finally, all ten of Xukong's eyes glowed with silver light, locking onto Lin Mu with an expression that danced between fatigue and surprise.

"You came in person," Xukong said, his voice rumbling like waves in a void. "I did not think you would."

Lin Mu exhaled in relief, bowing low. "I didn't want to disturb your cultivation, but… I've run into a problem. I tried reaching you before, but there was no response."

Xukong's mandibles twitched slightly. "I was in the deepest state of trance… too far to hear. But now that you're here… I see it in you. You've been burdened."

Xukong quickly looked through their shared memories, understanding all that he had gone through recently. There was a lot left to look, but the spider focused on the most important matters for now.

Lin Mu nodded. "There's a rift, in the monastery. It's small but dense—like a black hole. The Heart of Gravity, they call it, but it's no treasure. It's a tear in space. I tried to seal it, but it's too strong. The monks are suffering. I need a way to contain it… or seal it properly."

The spider closed his eyes again, contemplating.

"A rift born of concentrated gravity…" he murmured. "Such anomalies are remnants. Scars left by cosmic forces… or failed attempts at spatial folding. There's a chance this might be a rift into a Dao Dimension." He stated.
