"Elle, wait!"
Ellena and Lucas' steps suddenly stopped when they heard someone's voice calling for Ellena. They had to undo the intention to leave the restaurant immediately, when they turned and realized Keenan was a few meters away from her.
The man seemed to be walking side by side with Filia, intending to approach Ellena and Lucas.
"Keenan, Filia?" Ellena whispered after Keenan and Filia stood in front of her.
"You've been here all this time?" asked Keenan a little nervously. His gaze was wistful, fixed on Elena.
How very sad it was to see Ellena and Lucas walking so intimately, hand in hand. However, he knew enough to not be jealous anymore seeing it all.
Ah, if only he hadn't done anything wrong with Filia. Maybe at this point he still deserved to expect Ellena to come back to him, but it was all over. There was no way he would ignore Filia after what he did to that woman.
"Lucas and I were just about to go home," replied Filia who also looked nervous.
Ellena really didn't expect to meet face to face like this with Keenan and Filia. All this time she had deliberately pretended not to see their presence in the restaurant. However, it turned out that they had realized in advance that she was with Lucas there.
"Can we talk for a minute? It's a coincidence that we meet here, there are some things I want to tell you," said Keenan a little doubtfully. However, he had to quickly resolve his problems with Ellena, even though he had already learned from Filia about Ellena's response to his planned marriage with Filia.
There was a hint of disappointment implied in Keenan's heart, when he found out that Ellena had simply given up on himself for Filia, because it meant that Ellena didn't expect it anymore. However, on the other hand he was also happy, at least Ellena's answer didn't burden Filia who was almost crazy because of his actions.
Not responding right away, Ellena glanced at Lucas for a moment, just wanting to make sure her husband gave her permission or not.
Meanwhile, Lucas seemed to observe Keenan's face for a moment, staring at the man while digging his eyebrows. After that, he turned back to the side and nodded his head slowly, when he noticed his wife's hopeful gaze.
Getting a positive response from her husband, Ellena immediately turned to Keenan again with a flat expression. "Okay, Keenan." She softly agreed to Keenan's request.
"Thank you, Elle." Keenan replied with a smile.
"But sorry, Keenan, I can't stay long." Ellena informed him.
"It's okay, Elle. I won't be long either. Let's just talk here," said Keenan, pointing to one of the empty tables not far from them.
"Only two of?" asked Elena to confirm.
"Oh, no. Bring your husband too," said Keenan, glancing at Lucas for a moment.
"Okay," replied Ellena, smiling happily because it turns out that Keenan understands his current condition much better.
"Come on, Honey," said Ellena, holding Lucas' hand tightly.
Now they were sitting at the table facing each other without ordering anything from the waiter.
There was silence for a few moments. Neither Keenan nor Ellena, neither started to speak, as if awkwardness was invading them.
Yes, even Keenan was confused about where to start the conversation. He just stared awkwardly at the face of the woman he still loved so much, despite the fact that he already had plans to marry Filia soon.
Keenan's gaze immediately turned to Lucas who was still staring at him blankly. Just for a moment, he then glanced sideways at the woman who would become his future wife.
They made eye contact for a moment. Filia blinked slightly as if to signal for Keenan to immediately speak to Ellena.
"So, what do you want to talk about, Keenan?" asked Ellena breaking the awkwardness.
Keenan refocused his gaze forward, then took a deep breath. "Elle, I want to apologize—"
"You don't need to apologize, Keenan. This is God's destiny, I'm also happy for both of you," concluded Ellena, who had understood in advance where Keenan's conversation was going.
Again Keenan was silent. Confused about how to respond to Ellena's statement. Ah, did Ellena hate him so much?
"I'm sorry for my mistakes to you and I'm also sorry for my mistakes to your best friend, Elle. These few days I can't sleep peacefully thinking about it. I really want to talk to you, explain everything that happened. However, I'm too cowardly, because I don't have the courage to meet you," explained Keenan at length.
Hearing that, Lucas just frowned as he looked at Keenan with a questioning look. There wasn't a single comment he wanted to make, although his heart was quite curious about the meaning behind Keenan's words. 'What exactly happened to that man?' he thought.
Ah, Lucas became curious, what actually happened to Keenan and Filia. Why did they suddenly decide to get married? Hadn't Keenan been expecting Ellena to come back to him all this time? Lucas thought to himself.
"You don't need to apologize, Keenan. Trust me that everything will be fine. I'm actually proud of you, because you dare to take responsibility for what you've done to Filia. I'm happy. That means you are indeed the right man for my best friend. Please take care of her and don't ever hurt her. If you dare to hurt her, it's the same as hurting me and I won't forgive you if that happens!" Ellena answered firmly and with warning.
Keenan smiled with slightly teary eyes. He really regrets what he did. Because of that mistake, he was forced to let go and give up Ellena completely for Lucas. If only he could turn back time, he wouldn't be so stupid again that he got caught up in such a big mistake.
"I-I ...."
Keenan was unable to continue his speech. It was too painful for him to end the relationship with the woman who had accompanied him for a long time. However, he couldn't do anything. This is the most severe punishment he has ever received. At the same time, he must give up the woman he loves so much for another man, and at the same time he must accept a new woman who will become his wife.
It certainly won't be easy for him. In fact, until this moment there are still no feelings for Filia and still Ellena, the owner of the real heart.
Ellena gave a smile. "I will pray for your happiness." She whispered as she looked seriously at Keenan's face.
"Thank you, Elle," replied Filia, who had been silently watching Ellena and Keenan's conversation.
"Oh yeah, when are you planning to get married?" Ellena asked trying to lighten the mood, when she realized Keenan's already confused expression was facing her.
Yes, of course she understands very well how Keenan is feeling right now. Forced to marry someone who is not loved, in fact is not an easy thing to live. Just like what she had with Lucas. Luckily they now have the same feelings for each other. Hoping that Keenan and Filia will also experience the same thing as she and Lucas experienced, loving each other after marriage.
"The time is still uncertain, probably next month. Is it true, Keenan?" Filia seemed to be turning to Keenan, trying to make sure.
"Yes, maybe," answered Keenan curtly while nodding slowly, while his gaze was focused downwards as if he wanted to hide his current sadness in front of Ellena.
Really, Keenan didn't want to look weak in front of the woman he loved so much. After all he was a man who clearly had to be stronger than a woman.
"Hm ... Filia, I'd love it if you came back to the office." Lucas began to speak after a long silence.
He deliberately offered Filia to go back to work in his office, just to make small talk, after knowing the reason Filia stopped working, it turned out not because he was going back to the village, but because he was going to marry Keenan. After all, Filia's manpower is really needed in the company's office.
"Thank you for the offer, Sir. But sorry, Keenan has not given me permission to work," replied Filia with a smile.
Lucas raised an eyebrow, before responding, "Okay, I guess I can't force it."
"May you stay happy forever." Ellena whispered with a smile. "Keenan, I entrust my best friend, please make her happy, like she who always carves laughter in my life. If it wasn't for that, maybe I would have given up on living this life." She added while looking seriously at Keenan's face. Hanging hope for Filia's happiness on that man.
"Yes, of course, Elle. I promise I will treat her as best as I can," said Keenan with a sad look, then turned to look at Lucas who was currently watching him.
"Lucas, I sincerely let Ellena go for you. Please take care and make her happy. Don't ever hurt her in the slightest. If that happens, you will have to deal with me!" said Keenan emphatically, deliberately wanting to warn Lucas.
"Ahem!" Lucas cleared his throat before responding to Keenan's words, then slightly tidied up his tuxedo which wasn't a mess at all.
"I love my wife very much, so there's no way I could hurt her. If that happens, make sure I die in your hands!" Lucas answered trying to convince Keenan.
"I trust you," Keenan replied.
"Don't forget to invite us to your wedding." Lucas said, forcing a smile. It seemed that from today onwards he had to try to make peace with Keenan.
Even though Lucas still didn't know exactly what their problem was, at least he was happy because it meant that Keenan wouldn't bother his wife anymore. The joy is complete tonight. He really had Ellena completely, including the woman's love.
"Yes, of course. You are the first people we will invite." Keenan replied with a slight chuckle.
The atmosphere immediately melted. There was no more awkwardness between them. Keenan also looks better than before. For a moment he was able to forget the regret that made his feelings quite shattered.
"Elle, thank you for understanding me.." Keenan whispered as he looked at Ellena again with a small smile.
