Chapter 1101: There’s Off Campus Activities

Thankfully, it doesn’t look like anyone else heard this guy’s outburst so we managed to get through the day in peace.

When he woke up, he got the hint that we didn’t want him to be making a fuss about it and avoided freaking out about it the next day.

“How… Did you get a dragon egg?” He asked quietly when we continued the escort in the morning.

“Dungeon,” I explained casually, still hugging my egg.

“Are you planning to sell it at the Academy? The Academy would pay a really big price for something like a dragon egg.”

I hugged my egg even tighter, “No. This is mine.”

He was about to say something again when Carrey suddenly kicked him in the back of the knee, causing him to stumble.

“That’s enough disrespect coming out of you for my Mistress. Who do you think you are?”

Oh geez, Carrey. Since when did you turn into the overprotective type?

I thought that he would cower like earlier but his eyes went to Carrey’s neck and he immediately knew she was a slave from the collar around her neck

He puffed up his chest and scowled at her, “Since when have I fallen so low to allow a slave like you to lecture me? Who do you think YOU are?”

Carrey did not back down and glared at him, “I am my Mistress’s slave.”

Katsuki went up to smack her on the back of her head before dragging her away.

“E… Eh? Kat… Katsuki? Why?!”

“Do not use Mistress’s name to lord over others. You are embarrassing Mistress.”

Honestly I don’t really care anyway but Katsuki would know about such things better than I do so I’ll trust her judgement.

They mage guy watched her leave before turning to me, “Have… Have I been rude to you… Err…”

“Aster. You can call me Aster.”

“Ah, I am Bec Livin, fourth son of the Livin family. Pleased to meet you,” He greeted with a bow.

I had to refrain from saying “I know” to him but since he introduced himself as a noble, I turned to him and returned his greeting with a curtsy of my own.

“Well met, Sir Bec.”

He straightened, “You’re… A noble?”

“Perhaps, perhaps not. You do not need to know,” I explained vaguely.

He pursed his lips at me and if this was any other noble, they would definitely take offense at what I said but this guy isn’t in a position to be offended right now so he’ll have to suck it up.

But I believe he should have inferred from Katsuki’s existence that I was definitely from a noble family and most likely in a higher position than his so if anything, he was the one that has been rude to begin with.

He most likely figured out that it would be best for him to just ignore it and chose not to pursue the matter.

Instead, he cleared his throat and tried to change the topic, “Ahem… Right… Err… Anyway… You’re really going to Aerialla Academy?”

“Did I not already establish that?”

“And you’re err… Taking the scenic route?”

“Pretty much.”

“Can I ask why?”

“Because it’s interesting and I want to explore a little before I get cooped up in a school for the next four years.”

He perked up at that, “Oh! You don’t need to worry about that! The Academy also organises activities outside of the floating islands too. If you take the Dungeon courses, they would arrange for trips to Dungeon City for the students to dive into the Dungeon there.”

I spun to him, “Wait… You’re telling me the Academy will arrange for trips out of the school? That you won’t just be stuck inside the Academy while you are studying there? They won’t force you to stay there and only go back home during the holidays?”

“Eh? No, of course not. As I said before, the school operates on a merit based system and students are encouraged to go beyond their comfort zones to excel. In fact, if you are researching a particular magic or subject and need to leave the Academy to conduct your research, you can submit a proposal to them for the Academy to help you arrange for it. Like if you want to learn specific Rejmar smithing techniques, the Academy could write a letter of recommendation and get you an apprenticeship with a Rejmar blacksmith within Frostiminir Kingdom.”

“They can do that?”

He nodded, “The Academy does have a lot of influence after all. You could say the greatest minds and innovators all have their roots in Aerialla Academy. Of course, the fact that all the strongest mages come from there is also a pretty big point.”

“Wait… And who would be funding these trips?”

“The Academy of course.”

“And all the student has to pay is their school fees?”

“Eh? Well… Technically?”

“So I could technically write a proposal to the Academy about researching sweets found all over the World and if they accept, they would fund my trip around the world to research on sweets?”

“Err… Well… That is assuming they accept that proposal of course…”

Lightbulbs started going off in my head and I was just about to tell the girls that we were finding the next Grey Walker to teleport us directly to Aerialla Academy when Bec quickly added.

“Umm… Could I just mention that the requirements for the Academy to accept a new proposal is really, really difficult to clear? If the school does not believe that what you’re researching would make any advancements towards magic or the world… They would definitely not accept it… And even if they accept your proposal and the research results aren’t good enough to warrant all the expenses they paid for it, you would not only need to pay back all the expenses but would also get demerit points in your Merit Credits which would make it even harder for you to graduate…”

Uggh… I want to say that researching sweets all over the world will make the World a sweeter place! But I already know those people that are deciding this stuff in the Academy would definitely not be cultured enough to accept this reason.

At least now I know that I don’t need to worry about just being stuck inside the Academy and not being allowed to go anywhere during my time there.

Hey, you can’t blame me for having such assumptions! I thought the Academy would be like that since a certain story about a magical school worked exactly like that!

Then again… That fictional school was akin to a high school while Aerialla Academy could be considered more like a university instead…

Hmm… In that case… Should I speed up our journey there after all?

No wait… I did mention that I want to visit Odeta’s, Katsuki’s and Lisa’s hometowns on the way there so changing that plan is out of the question.

I guess I’ll just try not to make any more plans for detours for now and just head towards Anam City along the shortest possible route.

Which would still bring us past the places I had mentioned earlier anyway so it works out for me.

“So did you do any outside of school stuff?” I asked, looking at the Academy graduate.

“Well… I did participate in one of the Dungeon expeditions in Dungeon City and that was what inspired me to become a Mercenary actually.”

“A Mercenary and not a Dungeoneer?”

“I figured that as a Dungeoneer, I would just be constantly going into Dungeons and fighting monsters and nothing else. But as a Mercenary, I still get to travel around and see different things instead of just the same Dungeon over and over again. Since I was the fourth son and my chances of inheriting the house are slim anyway, I might as well go out and make a name for myself elsewhere.”

Well, that’s normal in the society of nobles I guess? If you aren’t the eldest child or particularly gifted, you would most likely be inheriting either a small part of the family or nothing at all so most of these types of people simply find their fortunes and fame elsewhere.

Which was ironic considering the fact that I was not only the eldest child of Mother but also her only child and yet here I am doing almost the exact same thing as this guy who was the fourth child of his family…

Then again, this guy was alone while I had my lovers accompanying me so we’re not the same.

Thankfully, this guy doesn’t need to know that.

“Oh look! I think we’re here!” The guy suddenly shouted out while pointing up ahead.

Turning in the direction that he was pointing, I could indeed see the walls of Asttol City right up ahead.

At the speed that we’re going, I think we should be reaching the city by late evening which means our escort mission would also be complete~
