We walked up to the front door and Katsuki rapped her knuckles on it a few times.

There was silence for a good long minute before Katuski knocked on the door again.

This time, we heard footsteps coming from within the building and my Inugami maid took a step back to wait for the door to open.

A few more seconds passed as the sound of hurried footsteps got closer and closer before stopping at the door.

There was another short period of silence, before the door finally opened a crack, allowing whoever was behind it to peek through the gap.

"Who are you? What do you want?" a clearly masculine voice came from behind the door.

Katsuki nodded her head slightly in his direction, "Good day. We are currently investigating the disappearance of several slaves in the area and we were wondering if you knew anything about that?"

Oh wow, we're just going to question him directly I see. Guess we might as well just rip the bandaid off and get straight to the point here.

Surprisingly, the person behind the door actually opened the door a little wider and we found a young male Trasif standing behind it with a surprised look on his face.

He stared at Katsuki before shifting his gaze to me for a moment and then returning it back to Katsuki.

"What do you mean by 'disappearance of several slaves'? Did you find some slaves wandering around here?"

Katsuki stepped aside to give way to me, indicating that I should take over the conversation.

I took up the role and addressed the guy directly, "No, this is about several slaves that disappeared from Asttol City. You know, the one that is down the road from here?"

He frowned at me, "What? Are you here to capture them again or something?"

"Not capture but more like rescue them? They seemed to have been kidnapped."

The fact that he hasn't shown much reaction to me made me believe that he most likely doesn't have [Screened] so he most likely didn't know that I was an Off-Worlder too.

"Kidnapped? Why is the possibility that they could have been liberated not even on your mind? Are you two also pro-slavery?"

I tilted my head at him and acted confused, "What do you mean by 'pro-slavery'? What does that even mean?"

"Like you support enslaving people, damn it! What kind of vile people takes the right of freedom away from someone else?!"

I wish nothing but to remain by your side for the rest of my life and if there were anyone who is audacious enough to even attempt to tear me away from you, I would kill that perpetrator and return back to your side."

From the corner of my eye, I saw the Off-Worlder's mouth open and close like a fish on dry land before he recovered.

"You don't need to be a slave to stay beside her! If you really cared for her, you would release her from her bonds!"

"Mistress. Once again, please do not listen to outsiders. It is my pride that I am your slave as nothing in this World would be able to overshadow my proof of devotion to you. I do not wish to be released from this intimate bond of ours that transcends emotional bonds."

Ok… I really didn't expect Katsuki to say all that…

I mean, I did float the idea to her very early on before and she already made it especially clear that she would not want to be released from this bond of hers and took immense pride from it. That's why I never brought it up again after that.

But to hear how deep her devotion is to me… I'm kind of getting a little embarrassed here…

This time, the Off-Worlder had no counter for that argument and was just staring at Katsuki in disbelief.

Thus, I turned back to him to get the topic back on track, "So… Umm… Anyway… Do you know about the slaves who had disappeared from the city?"

It took him a second more to recover and he basically just threw the earlier conversation out of his mind as he scowled at me again.

"There are no slaves in this building."

I didn't need to be a genius to figure out his hidden meaning in how he worded that sentence so I gestured towards the building's interior, "In that case, may we come in and do a quick inspection?"

"Do you have a warrant?"

This little bitch.

Is this your first day in this World or something? You just recently came into this World didn't you?

Ok, let's see how far I can take this then… Hey, there's no reason I can't have a little fun while I'm doing this, right?

I pretended to look around the place before turning back to him, "Are you the owner of this place?"

He hesitated for just a second before answering, "This place was empty when I found it. So I claim it as mine now."

"Hmm… Interesting… In that case, can I see your proof of home ownership and any application you might have made to allow you to keep this land in this state of disrepair? If you don't have an application for allowing such a state to befall on this land, then you'll have to receive a fine for that. And that's also not counting the fine for not repairing your building to meet the Kingdom's building safety standards. Plus it seems the space in front is a farmland so I'm going to need to see your agriculture license and also your watering, seeding and harvesting licenses. If you're also fertilising the farm, I'll need to see your fertilising license too. If you don't, we'll need to check that no fertiliser is used or there would be a penalty and a fine for doing so."

Naturally, everything I just said above was complete bullshit and I made everything up. But of course he doesn't know that and it was obvious that he doesn't by the look of surprise on his face.

It looked like he wanted to call me out on my bluff but he clearly didn't know enough about this World to know whether that was all just a complete lie or I was speaking the truth.

In the end, he seemed to have decided to just err on the side of caution and tried to stall, "I… I think I might have misplaced those licenses… I… Mean… Err… The house was broken into, you see… And I'm still kind of cleaning the place up… Could you come another day?"

I let out a fake gasp, "The house was broken into?! Then in that case, we really need to come in and do a quick inspection to do a report. We are here as representatives of the city's lord you see and we have to report back to them about this."

He obviously didn't want us in there but he probably didn't want us to report back that this place shut us off which would have made things more complicated so he stepped aside and ushered us in.
