Chapter 1024: News Of The Xuanhuang Cosmiris (2)
“Second, the map of the cosmic sea.” Zi Kong waved his hand, and their surroundings transformed. Countless bizarre celestial bodies populated the space, then began to shrink rapidly.
Finally, within the vast temple, an expansive projection reminiscent of a star chart materialized.
“This map of the cosmic sea was compiled by the Dao Master and numerous powerhouses under his command. Several regions have been updated within the last hundred million years,” Zi Kong explained. “What you see here is merely the map of the Heartland region. As successors of the Dao Master, you can obtain it for free. But remember, it must not be leaked.
“You are not permitted to share it with other powerhouses,” Zi Kong emphasized gravely.
“Yes.”
“Understood.” Overlord Bei Zhen and the others nodded repeatedly.
Wu Yuan nodded as well. When he became a successor of the Dao Master, he had sworn a Great Dao Oath never to reveal any secrets pertaining to the Dao Master’s successors. This fell within the scope of that oath.
The identities of the other three successors of the Dao Master, for example, were knowledge Wu Yuan could only keep to himself. He was unable to divulge it to other powerhouses.
“The map now includes information on new exploration sites. Commit it all to memory.”
Overlord Bei Zhen, Overlord Peng Shi, and Overlord Qing You studied the projection intently.
Such a detailed map of the cosmic sea. Wu Yuan’s gaze swept across the projection within the temple.
This temple spanned a full million li in diameter, yet it barely contained this map projection. Moreover, the map wasn’t detailed and only covered the Heartland region. This spoke volumes about the sheer immensity of the cosmic sea.
It’s at least two or three times more detailed than the Heartland map from the Taiyuan Divine Court. Wu Yuan marveled inwardly.
Not only did it contain information on various exploration sites and immutable relic sites, but it also included detailed accounts of ventures into these places, along with the minor dangers encountered. Information on various factions within the cosmic sea was also recorded.
This was the advantage of having powerful backing. While cultivating and exploring alone might seem carefree, it also meant being unsupported. Much of the intelligence that would take tremendous effort to acquire alone, members of major factions might know from their first day as an Overlord.
For someone like Wu Yuan, who had the support of several major factions, gathering intelligence was even more convenient.
Overall, the cosmic sea map provided by the Spacetime Dao Master is more comprehensive. Wu Yuan thought to himself. But there are many areas where the Taiyuan Divine Court’s map is more detailed.
The cosmic sea was truly vast beyond comprehension. Even the Heartland alone was incredibly expansive, filled with countless exploration sites. Any single site could occupy an Overlord for a good number of years. Thus, it was only natural that maps and intelligence from different factions would have varying focuses.
In reality, most of the information on the cosmic sea wasn’t collated by Overlords, but by eternal beings.
Only eternal beings, possessing truly endless lifespans and far greater strength, could spend great lengths of time exploring. Overlords? They could only live for one samsara cycle of heaven and earth, falling short in many aspects.
“The third matter is that in three hundred thousand years, the Xuanhuang Cosmiris deep within the River of Universes will open,” Zi Kong said coolly.
“Apart from Bei Zhen, who has sufficient strength to enter on his own, the three of you are still too weak. If you can secure spots from your respective factions, you may go. However, if you cannot, you can come to me, and I will take you in when the time comes,” Zi Kong stated.
“What?”
“The Xuanhuang Cosmiris is opening again?”
“Right, it’s been nearly a hundred thousand years since the Megaverse Crossroads ended. It’s about time.”
“The Xuanhuang Cosmiris.” Overlord Bei Zhen, Overlord Peng Shi, and Overlord Qing You’s eyes all lit up.
Xuanhuang Cosmiris? A flicker of confusion passed through Wu Yuan’s eyes.
Though he had become an Overlord, the amount of information related to Overlords in the Taiyuan Divine Court’s intelligence archives was incredibly vast. He had only perused a portion and hadn’t fully read through everything yet.
“Junior Brother Ming Jian, you’re not familiar with the Xuanhuang Cosmiris?” Overlord Bei Zhen smiled, seemingly noticing Wu Yuan’s bewilderment.
“I hope Senior Brother can enlighten me,” Wu Yuan said.
“This is indeed one of the great secrets of the universe, unknown to many independent Overlords,” Overlord Bei Zhen explained. “But the Taiyuan Divine Court should have records about it. The Xuanhuang Cosmiris is actually related to the Megaverse Crossroads.”
“Oh?” Wu Yuan grew even more puzzled.
“Junior Brother Ming Jian, the Megaverse Crossroads opens once every 5.5 billion years. The Primordial Rules operate, and the providence of heaven and earth converges. It’s a grand occasion for countless mortal lifeforms across infinite megaverses,” Overlord Qing You explained with a smile. “The Xuanhuang Cosmiris, on the other hand, opens shortly after the Megaverse Crossroads begins. The two are related.”
“Fundamentally, all universes exist on an enormous river of space and time. This river of space and time is referred to as the River of Universes by countless eternal beings,” Overlord Bei Zhen continued. “Usually when we traverse between different universes, we’re not actually traveling through the cosmic sea, but along the highest level of the River of Universes. That’s why it’s so effortless. Typically, it only takes a month or two to reach different universes.”
Wu Yuan nodded slightly.
He was familiar with the concept of the River of Universes. If one didn’t travel along it and instead tried to traverse the cosmic sea?
Firstly, it would take an extremely long time, potentially over ten thousand years to reach other universes. Secondly, it was dangerous. The perils of the cosmic sea were no exaggeration – every step was fraught with mortal danger. Without at least third-stage Overlord strength, one might fare well exploring near the universes, but venturing deep into the cosmic sea? It was incredibly perilous. The cosmic sea was, in essence, the realm of eternal beings.
“The so-called Xuanhuang Cosmiris is actually a special place formed deep within the River of Universes where the Primordial Rules operate. It’s enveloped by countless streams of Xuanhuang qi, harboring myriad mysteries and opportunities,” Overlord Bei Zhen explained.
“Just as the Megaverse Crossroads is a great opportunity for countless mortal lifeforms, the Xuanhuang Cosmiris is similarly an opportunity for the top sempiternal lifeforms.
“Therefore, shortly after the appearance of the Megaverse Crossroads – as early as tens of thousands of years or as late as ten million years – the Xuanhuang Cosmiris will open. Overlords from all thirty-six universes rarely miss such an opportunity,” Overlord Bei Zhen smiled.
Wu Yuan nodded lightly. He now understood.
Every 5.5 billion years, under the operation of the Primordial Rules, providence converged and the River of Universes surged. Not only did the Megaverse Crossroads open, but the Xuanhuang Cosmiris would also open.
However, it seemed that entering the Xuanhuang Cosmiris was no easy feat. Ordinary Overlords couldn’t enter with their power alone.
“Xuanhuang qi is incredibly corrosive,” Overlord Bei Zhen said. “Ordinary Overlords can hardly enter on their own, having to rely on certain extremely powerful Xiantian artifacts. Alternatively, eternal beings will have to enter the River of Universes, escorting Overlords into the Xuanhuang Cosmiris by using their immense power to force open a temporary passage.
“But it’s extremely difficult. Most eternal beings are reluctant to return to the River of Universes. Even when a passage is opened, it can usually only be maintained for an extremely brief period. Additionally, the Xuanhuang Cosmiris opens once every few billion years. Therefore, even Saintdoms often can’t send all their Overlords in,” Overlord Bei Zhen smiled. “Generally, it’s considered decent if a Saintdom can send in two or three members.”
Wu Yuan now fully understood.
For eternal beings, entering the River of Universes was extremely dangerous. Firstly, the risk of perishing greatly increased. Secondly, their power was constantly eroded, and the longer they stayed, the greater the risk of falling back into the river of space and time. Thus, no eternal being was willing to frequently return to the River of Universes!
“Only fourth-stage Overlords can enter the Xuanhuang Cosmiris on their own?” Wu Yuan inquired.
“Correct.” Overlord Bei Zhen nodded. With his strength, he could enter easily.
“Ming Jian.” Zi Kong looked at Wu Yuan. “Those who can enter the Xuanhuang Cosmiris are all extraordinarily powerful. Usually, most are at least third-stage Overlords, and there will also be many naturally-born eternal lifeforms from the cosmic sea. Although I can bring you in, if you’re too weak, you’ll just be cannon fodder and easily perish.
“You still have three hundred thousand years. If you want to go, you must strive to raise your strength,” Zi Kong advised.
“Understood,” Wu Yuan nodded, then asked curiously, “Naturally-born eternal lifeforms? They can participate too?”
“Haha, Ming Jian,” Overlord Qing You laughed. “Those naturally-born eternal lifeforms also have long periods of growth. Before entering the adult phase, they don’t yet count as eternal lifeforms. When they enter the River of Universes for short periods, they face very little suppression. In the Xuanhuang Cosmiris, they won’t face any suppression at all.
“Of course, there’s no need to worry too much. Naturally-born eternal lifeforms are often at the second or third stage of Overlord strength. Those with fourth-stage Overlord strength are extremely rare,” Overlord Qing You explained, clearly very knowledgeable about this matter.
Wu Yuan nodded slightly.
While listening to Overlord Bei Zhen’s explanation, he simultaneously read through information about the Xuanhuang Cosmiris from the Taiyuan Voidrealm intelligence archives. Combining this with what he heard, he now had a deeper understanding of this event.
“Alright, now that we’re done with these three matters, you may all disperse,” Zi Kong declared. “Only contact me for urgent matters.”
…
Zi Kong, Overlord Peng Shi, and Overlord Qing You departed in succession, while Overlord Bei Zhen unexpectedly asked Wu Yuan to stay behind.
The two of them made their way to Overlord Bei Zhen’s personal temple.
Each of the four Overlords possessed their own temple within the Spacetime Immortal Voidrealm.
“Senior Brother Bei Zhen, is there something else?” Wu Yuan inquired curiously.
“Indeed, there is,” Overlord Bei Zhen replied. He smiled as he gazed at Wu Yuan. “Do you remember the gift I bestowed upon you?”
Wu Yuan nodded.
“The storage artifact containing that gift is, in fact, also a token,” Overlord Bei Zhen explained with a smile. “I’ve placed a seal on it, but you should be able to sense it once your Dao comprehension reaches the eighth-level Dao Field stage. Through that token, you can contact me at any time.
“In the future, should you encounter danger while in the universe or when venturing into the Xuanhuang Cosmiris together, you can call for my aid through this token. As long as you carry the token and release its seal, I can swiftly pinpoint your location through it,” Overlord Bei Zhen stated solemnly.
A flicker of surprise flashed through Wu Yuan’s eyes.
“Senior Brother Bei Zhen, why are you doing this?” Wu Yuan couldn’t help but ask.
They were only senior and junior brothers in name. They hadn’t grown up together or truly supported each other through tough times, so their emotional ties were quite weak. Why would he go to such lengths to help him?
“By helping you, I’m helping myself,” Overlord Bei Zhen replied with a slight smile. “In the future, I, too, will need your assistance.”
