Chapter 1095: Eternals Arrive (2)
Wu Yuan was slightly taken aback.
“A high-grade Xiantian artifact?”
“This—!” Both Devil Emperor Jin Qu and Devil Emperor Jian Long, standing respectfully at a distance, were shocked.
They felt that True Saint Yue Luo was being far too generous. Even when recruiting a fourth-stage Overlord, bestowing a mid-grade Xiantian artifact would be considered the upper limit.
“I refuse,” Wu Yuan said, shaking his head decisively.
“Heh, you are quite resolute,” True Saint Yue Luo said with a smile. “This makes me even more curious. What sort of treasure could it be, that even a high-grade Xiantian artifact cannot sway you?”
Wu Yuan remained coldly aloof.
This scene made Devil Emperor Jian Long and Devil Emperor Jin Qu’s eyes widen in awe.
Though they were enemies, the Devil Emperors of the Abyss generally respected strength, especially super powerhouses who did not fear Eternals. Without a doubt, Wu Yuan fit their image of such a figure.
Unbeknownst to them, Wu Yuan had already encountered several Dao Zenithel Eternals, and thus was no longer that afraid or reverent of True Saints. Ultimately, True Saints held no particular mystique in Wu Yuan’s eyes.
“Very well, I’ll inquire no further,” True Saint Yue Luo said with a smile. “Devil Emperor Xia, I wish you all the best. Perhaps if you succeed in attaining eternity in the future, we may have a chance to meet in the alliance.”
Whoosh! True Saint Yue Luo’s incarnation dissipated.
“Devil Emperor Xia, farewell.”
“Farewell.” Devil Emperor Jin Qu and Devil Emperor Jian Long also transformed into two streaks of light, swiftly departing and vanishing into the vast expanse of the Sector River.
Wu Yuan now stood alone.
Alliance? Does he mean the Abyss Alliance? Wu Yuan mused silently. After perusing the Eldritch Court’s intelligence archives with Overlord-level permissions, he had gained a preliminary understanding of the cosmic sea.
The Eldritch Court and Immortal Court were undisputedly among the greatest factions of the cosmic sea. However, there were several other powerful forces in the cosmic sea that approached the level of the Eldritch and Immortal Courts, such as Wan Yu Tower which compiled the Eternal Register and Samsara Rankings. Another example was the Abyss Alliance.
The Abyss Alliance is a loose coalition formed by eternal lifeforms who emerge from the Abyss. Wu Yuan recalled.
Their overall strength is likely comparable to the Eldritch Court or Immortal Court. They may even have more True Saint Eternals and Dao Zenithel Eternals in their ranks.
After all, the powerhouses of the Abyss Alliance came from all thirty-six sectors of the Abyss.
On the other hand, the Abyss Alliance was far less united than the Eldritch Court or Immortal Court.
This was understandable. Wu Yuan was more inclined to trust the Eternals of the Eldritch Court. Even if there were internal conflicts among the eternal lifeforms and Overlords of the Eldritch Court, they would not engage in direct life-or-death battles.
But could eternal lifeforms who rose to power from an environment like the Abyss fully trust other eternal lifeforms? Of course not! Historically, it was commonplace for eternal lifeforms of the Abyss Alliance to kill each other.
I refused True Saint Yue Luo’s offer. Though he didn’t appear angry, who knows what schemes he’s plotting behind the scenes. Wu Yuan pondered. At the very least, he won’t keep my secret.
Once the news spread, other True Saints might not necessarily send their own Devil Emperor subordinates—after all, other Devil Emperors might be unwilling to battle a peak fourth-stage Overlord.
But what about True Saint Ji Guang? According to Eldritch Progenitor Hou Tu, he should have already dispatched eternal lifeforms into the Abyss.
Eternals? Even if they are eternal lifeforms, so what? It would still take them a very long time to travel here from other sector worlds. Wu Yuan shook his head slightly. The Flower of Sin will bloom in fewer than a thousand years.
After his battle with Devil Emperor Qian Ze, it took over a thousand years for Devil Emperor Jin Qu and the others to arrive.
It was possible that by the time True Saint Ji Guang’s powerhouses arrived, the Flower of Sin would have long since blossomed.
Whoosh! Wu Yuan took a step forward and vanished into the void.
…
I slew nine mana and ether bodies of Devil Emperors In this battle, obtaining twelve Xiantian artifacts? Wu Yuan quickly tallied his gains after returning to the array. The value of the other miscellaneous treasures should approach two hundred Xuanhuang merits.
A smile spread across Wu Yuan’s face. Earlier, he had promised Eldritch Progenitor Hou Tu three thousand Xuanhuang merits as payment. Now, the Xiantian artifacts obtained from this single battle already amounted to half that sum.
It’s a pity I couldn’t slay Devil Emperor Jin Qu. Wu Yuan shook his head slightly.
If he had managed to kill Devil Emperor Jin Qu, along with the Devil Emperors he had rescued, Wu Yuan might have gained another four or five Xiantian artifacts.
Nevertheless, Wu Yuan wasn’t discontent. The gains from this battle were already substantial; one mustn’t be too greedy.
The treasures are secondary. Creating a more powerful ultimate technique, or advancing further on the path of matter—those are truly important. Wu Yuan mused silently.
As his cultivation progressed and he approached the limits of a sempiternal lifeform, Wu Yuan increasingly understood that external objects were merely aids.
Take the Flower of Sin—even when it bloomed, its value would only be equivalent to two or three high-grade Xiantian artifacts in the hands of an eternal lifeform.
But for Devil Emperors, the Flower of Sin was a treasure that no other artifact could compare to.
Why? It was an item that could potentially bring about a fundamental metamorphosis of a Devil Emperor, offering hope of transcendence to eternity.
Only by breaking through in cultivation is there hope of achieving eternity via Dao Enlightenment. Wu Yuan contemplated as he settled into silent cultivation.
…
As Wu Yuan cultivated in seclusion…
In the cosmic sea, within the Ji Guang Saint Realm, was a world shrouded by clouds and mist.
Still no trace of Devil Emperor Xia’s whereabouts? Could he have escaped the Abyss? True Saint Ji Guang’s brow furrowed slightly.
Though he had not personally returned to the Abyss, he had been keeping close watch on the movements of Saint Yan He, Saint Da Yang, Saint Hong Yun, and the others. He was also monitoring the search efforts of several dozen Devil Emperors under his command.
Unfortunately, nearly fifty thousand years had passed without results.
Hmm? Suddenly, a barely perceptible gleam flashed through True Saint Ji Guang’s eyes. Yue Luo? News of Devil Emperor Xia’s whereabouts?
He pondered for a moment.
Whoosh! A projection of a majestic figure appeared within the world, its aura ethereal, seemingly eternal and everlasting.
“Yue Luo, you sent me a message saying you know Devil Emperor Xia’s whereabouts?” True Saint Ji Guang said in a low voice.
“Yes, I not only know his location, but I also have some intelligence about his strength,” True Saint Yue Luo said with a grin. “I know you’re eager, but you should understand the principle of equivalent exchange. I want a high-grade Xiantian artifact.”
“Impossible!” True Saint Ji Guang refused outright, not because he couldn’t afford a high-grade Xiantian artifact. Rather, he feared True Saint Yue Luo was trying to deceive him.
After all, until now, the many True Saints behind the thirty-six sectors of the Abyss were still unclear about what treasure Wu Yuan actually possessed. If True Saint Ji Guang agreed to this deal, it would be enough to reveal the truth.
“Ten mid-grade Xiantian artifacts,” True Saint Ji Guang said in a low voice. “This is the highest price I can offer. However, you must ensure the information is accurate.”
“Mid-grade Xiantian artifacts? Useless to me,” True Saint Yue Luo shook his head. “How about this – let me have an extra spot at the next Ancient Blue Deep.”
True Saint Ji Guang hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “Very well. I’ll give you one of my three spots.”
True Saint Yue Luo nodded, smiling. “I’ve already sent you everything regarding Devil Emperor Xia’s coordinates and power. Feel free to review it. I’ll take my leave now.”
The exchange between the two True Saints was brief, and neither demanded the other swear a Primordial Oath or anything of the sort.
At their level of existence, unless there was truly a great opportunity at stake, they still valued their reputations and wouldn’t completely disregard their promises.
Intelligence? True Saint Ji Guang swiftly accessed the voidrealm to review the information True Saint Yue Luo had sent. His expression grew exceedingly grim.
In one battle, he killed the mana and ether bodies of nine Devil Emperors? True Saint Ji Guang’s eyes filled with killing intent. So he’s hiding in the Sector River. It makes sense – the Flower of Sin grows best in the Sector River.
With a thought, True Saint Ji Guang summoned three figures, whose projections quickly appeared beneath his majestic throne.
“We pay our respects to the True Saint,” the three Saints bowed respectfully in unison.
“I have found Devil Emperor Xia’s whereabouts,” True Saint Ji Guang looked at the three Saints. “You may review the information and consider how to proceed.”
With a wave of his hand, True Saint Ji Guang conjured an enormous light screen in the distance, projecting a great deal of intelligence and battle footage.
“Peak fourth-stage Overlord?”
“Even Devil Emperor Jin Qu was defeated?”
“He’s set up such a formidable array.”
“So he’s in the Sector River at Sector 11.” The expressions of Saint Yan He, Saint Da Yang, and Saint Hong Yun all changed.
The situation was not within their expectations.
The three Saints exchanged glances.
“Time is of the essence,” True Saint Ji Guang said slowly. “In theory, the Flower of Sin will still take millions of years to bloom. But the longer we delay, the more likely Devil Emperor Xia is to escape. Furthermore, the time you may remain in the Abyss grows shorter.
“So, pursue and kill him with all your might,” True Saint Ji Guang commanded.
“Yes, True Saint,” the three Saints responded respectfully in unison.
“True Saint,” Saint Hong Yun said in a low voice. “I’m currently in Sector 10, so I’ll get there the fastest.
“Saint Yan He and Saint Da Yang are in Sector 7 and Sector 16 respectively. It will take them at least two thousand years to arrive. Should I head over first?” Saint Hong Yun asked.
While the three Saints had been searching for Devil Emperor Xia’s trail previously, he had not revealed his peak fourth-stage Overlord strength. So, to improve the efficiency of their search, they had split up.
“Mm, that should be fine,” True Saint Ji Guang nodded slightly. “However, given Devil Emperor Xia’s current power and his array, your strength alone may not be enough to capture him.”
Dao Pioneer Eternals had varying levels of strength. The weakest could only match a peak fourth-stage Overlord within the Abyss, while the strongest could reach the threshold of a fifth-stage Overlord.
Saint Da Yang and Saint Hong Yun were considered average among the Dao Pioneer Eternals in strength, slightly stronger than a peak fourth-stage Overlord when they descended into the Abyss.
In True Saint Ji Guang’s view, Saint Hong Yun could overpower Devil Emperor Xia without much difficulty, but killing him would likely be beyond her capabilities.
“So, keep watch on him first. Don’t let him escape,” True Saint Ji Guang said in a low voice. “Additionally, I’ve issued orders to the other Devil Emperors, commanding them all to converge on Sector 11 and jointly surround Devil Emperor Xia.
“Though they’re no match for him, if Devil Emperor Xia tries to flee, they can at least track his movements.”
“Understood,” the three Saints responded respectfully, their confidence bolstered. Then their projections dissipated.
…
Atop the vast and towering Yue Luo Divine Mountain in Sector 10.
“I will compensate those of you who died in this mission for the treasures you lost, as well as the losses of your mana and ether bodies,” True Saint Yue Luo looked down at the projections of over ten Devil Emperors below.
“We thank the True Saint.”
“The True Saint is most generous.” Devil Emperor Lan Hu and the others, whose mana or ether bodies had perished, expressed their deep gratitude.
“Qian Ze, although Devil Emperor Xia wasn’t killed in this battle, I will still grant you a low-grade Xiantian artifact,” True Saint Yue Luo said.
“Thank you, True Saint!” Devil Emperor Qian Ze was overjoyed, having been worried that he might gain nothing.
True Saint Yue Luo smiled faintly. The treasures used to compensate these Devil Emperors had already been recouped from True Saint Ji Guang, so he didn’t take a loss. In fact, with an extra slot, he had profited considerably.
Of course, compensating these Devil Emperors was necessary. Otherwise, who would be willing to fight for him in the future?
“For now, don’t spread the news of this battle with Devil Emperor Xia,” True Saint Yue Luo said. “Jian Long, stay behind. The rest of you may leave.”
“Yes, True Saint,” the Devil Emperors responded respectfully as their projections dissipated one by one.
“True Saint,” Devil Emperor Jian Long bowed respectfully.
“Jian Long, I need you to take a small risk,” True Saint Yue Luo smiled. “True Saint Ji Guang’s powerhouses will likely attack Devil Emperor Xia soon. So, I want you to remain in the Sector River at Sector 11 and observe their battle.”
“To gather intelligence?” Devil Emperor Jian Long instantly grasped True Saint Yue Luo’s intentions.
“Indeed.” Devil Emperor Jian Long responded respectfully, unconcerned about the potential loss of his mana body. Even if it died, he believed the True Saint would compensate him for the loss.
“Go now,” True Saint Yue Luo waved his hand. Soon, only his projection remained atop the divine mountain.
Devil Emperor Xia? He doesn’t seem to have created an eternal ultimate technique, yet he can unleash the power of a peak fourth-stage Overlord? True Saint Yue Luo mused to himself. Is it because of some treasure? No! Even if you gave him a Xiantian Instrument, he couldn’t unleash its full power.
What could be the reason? True Saint Yue Luo was very curious.
…
Time flowed like water, and in the blink of an eye, over seven hundred years had passed.
Deep within the Sector River at Sector 11, Wu Yuan, who had been meditating in the core of the array, suddenly opened his eyes.
An eternal being? Have they finally come? Wu Yuan murmured to himself.
He had already sensed that vast, eternal, and majestic aura rapidly approaching his position.
Within the Sector River, it was extremely difficult for an eternal lifeform to conceal their aura.
