Chapter 1105: The Birth Of A Legend (2)
In the void.
True Saint Ji Guang’s incarnation materialized, his posture deferential. “Fellow Daoist Xia, I—”
“Scram!” A thunderous roar split the fabric of spacetime, followed instantly by a gleaming blade ray that carved through the darkness.
The blade ray effortlessly erased Ji Guang’s incarnation before continuing its deadly arc, slicing through three Devil Emperors who had no time to react.
“No!”
“Devil Emperor Xia—” Terror consumed them as their forms disintegrated into nothingness, their pleas for mercy dying unfinished.
These three had been among True Saint Ji Guang’s most valued subordinates.
A palpable chill spread among the remaining Devil Emperors, fear seeping into their cores. Many of those present owed allegiance to Ji Guang.
Wu Yuan’s gaze swept over them, cold as frost. “Listen up. I know many of you belong to Ji Guang’s faction. I have no desire for wholesale slaughter, but from this moment forward, stay out of my sight.”
He paused. “Tell Ji Guang this: I will kill him. That is certain.” His words hung in the void, causing the assembled Devil Emperors to shiver involuntarily.
The True Saints observing from afar also sighed emotionally.
A sempiternal being threatening a True Saint Eternal? The notion seemed absurd. Yet coming from a peerless sempiternal who had achieved Legend of the River status, the threat carried unmistakable weight.
Throughout history, sempiternal beings who became Legends of the River almost invariably went on to become Dao Zenithel Eternals, provided they survived the journey.
Wu Yuan transformed into a streak of light and vanished into the distance. His killing intent toward True Saint Ji Guang was genuine and unshakable.
When I achieve eternity, he dies first. The thought crystallized in Wu Yuan’s mind. He had never been one to return evil with kindness. Blood for blood—this was his nature.
The Devil Emperors remained frozen in place, none daring to break the silence that followed Wu Yuan’s departure.
Finally, one Devil Emperor dropped into a deep bow. “Respectfully sending off Devil Emperor Xia,” he called, his voice carrying far through the void. Whether this was intentional or born of fear remained unclear.
Wu Yuan glanced back briefly. He didn’t recognize this particular Devil Emperor, though he appeared to be one of Ji Guang’s subordinates.
“Respectfully sending off Devil Emperor Xia.”
“Respectfully sending off Devil Emperor Xia.”
As Wu Yuan’s gaze swept across them, the remaining Devil Emperors bowed deeply, one after another. The void echoed with their unified chorus—a sight that would have left the countless Sovereigns of the Abyss utterly astounded.
These were Devil Emperors from diverse factions and sector worlds. When had they ever bowed so subserviently over the long ages? Perhaps not even True Saints commanded such universal respect.
Their behavior was understandable. True Saints possessed immense power, but their actual influence within the Abyss was limited. They typically relied on treasures to secure the Devil Emperors’ cooperation. Dispatching Eternals to descend into the Abyss was rarer still, given the immense cost along with the restrictions imposed by the River of Universes.
Devil Emperor Xia was different—he was a fellow Abyssal Devil Emperor. In the years to come, any Devil Emperor he chose to hunt would face an inescapable nightmare. His deterrent power within the Abyss far exceeded that of any True Saint.
Whoosh! When the streak of light finally disappeared into the vastness, the Devil Emperors exhaled collectively.
“He’s gone at last.”
“Devil Emperor Xia seems far more terrifying than the True Saints.” They shared their honest feelings in private transmissions.
“Saint Hong Yun is dead.”
“An Eternal has fallen.”
“By slaying an Eternal, a new legend is born—one whose brilliance likely surpasses the legendary powerhouses of old.”
“He slew an Eternal while outnumbered two-to-one. I’ve never read of such a feat in any historical record.” The Devil Emperors spoke with awe in their voices.
Though they feared Devil Emperor Xia, they instinctively revered him. A sempiternal lifeform who slayed an Eternal and threatened a True Saint. How could such heroic feats not win their admiration?
“Let’s go.”
“Tales of this battle will spread across the entire Abyss and River of Universes.”
“River of Universes? No! This battle will echo throughout the endless megaverse. Countless Eternals will hear of it, and it will be inscribed in the Eternal Register, never to be forgotten.”
“I’ve heard that the universal monstrous prodigies in this cycle of heaven and earth have been looking down on us. Now it’s time to show them.”
“In this era, a Legend of the River has risen from the Abyss.”
The Devil Emperors dispersed, and news of Devil Emperor Xia began to spread like wildfire, destined to reach every corner of the cosmic sea.
—
Within the highest temple of the Yue Luo Saint Realm, True Saint Yue Luo sat upon his throne, inwardly lamenting his loss.
A high-grade Xiantian artifact… truly painful. Even for him, such artifacts were rare treasures. Xiantian Instruments were his primary weapons, and he possessed only a few. His mana body only equipped high-grade Xiantian artifacts for the most critical battles.
Yet amid his regret, True Saint Yue Luo felt subtle relief. It’s fortunate that Devil Emperor Xia accepted the offer. Our grudge is settled.
If Devil Emperor Xia had chosen to nurture a vendetta… While True Saint Yue Luo didn’t fear him in his current state, he dreaded what the future might bring.
Who could predict what heights Devil Emperor Xia might reach? True Saint? Dao Zenithel?
After endless years, he may not necessarily become a Dao Zenithel Eternal, but I’d rather avoid such a headache. True Saint Yue Luo nodded to himself. The transaction was well worth it.
I’ll send the treasure to the Abyss immediately.
…
While True Saint Yue Luo found relief despite his loss, True Saint Ji Guang was both appalled and livid.
Damn that Devil Emperor Xia! How dare he destroy my incarnation! His teeth ground together in fury.
He was stunned by the terrifying power Devil Emperor Xia had displayed, effortlessly slaying Saint Hong Yun. Their fight could hardly be called a bitter struggle.
More galling still, when True Saint Ji Guang had deigned to take a step back and negotiate, Devil Emperor Xia had the audacity to dismiss him outright.
The loss of face was immense. True Saint Ji Guang knew he had likely become a laughingstock among the True Saints of the Abyss Alliance.
But wounded pride was secondary to the real threat.
Devil Emperor Xia remains the primary concern. Ji Guang’s eyes darkened ominously. His rejection means he’s determined to seek revenge.
A mere sempiternal lifeform. Even if he has pioneered his own Dao, how dare he show such arrogance?
He’s not an Eternal, let alone a True Saint. I must eliminate him preemptively… Ji Guang assured himself.
Though his thoughts were bold, he understood better than anyone: if Devil Emperor Xia continued to grow unchecked, he would become Ji Guang’s worst nightmare.
…
In Sector 11 of the Abyss, countless Abyssal worlds overlapped and rotated.
A figure in black robes, his aura boundless and ethereal, streaked through the void at astonishing speed. Saint Yan He had entered Sector 11 and was rushing toward the Sector River at full speed.
Suddenly, he came to an abrupt stop.
Fifth-stage Overlord? Hong Yun is dead? Shock and disbelief flashed in his eyes.
Reports of the battle at the Sector River began streaming in, including Devil Emperor Xia’s legendary feat.
Should I still go? Saint Yan He hesitated. Despite his confidence, he felt uncertain when faced with such overwhelming power.
Without warning, a blurry figure materialized in his mind—True Saint Ji Guang.
“True Saint,” Saint Yan He acknowledged.
“You must have heard the news. That Devil Emperor Xia indeed possesses extraordinary strength,” Ji Guang transmitted.
“Mm.” Yan He remained impassive. “True Saint, am I permitted to return to the Saint Realm?”
He avoided any mention of Devil Emperor Xia, his resolve already wavering.
First, Devil Emperor Xia had already departed, making him difficult to locate. With his strength, where in the Abyss couldn’t he go? Second, even if they met, victory was far from certain.
“I hope you can pursue and kill Devil Emperor Xia,” True Saint Ji Guang pressed. “He struggled greatly to slay Saint Hong Yun, and his strength is severely depleted. Recovery will be extremely difficult…”
“True Saint, I am unwilling to participate further in this battle,” Saint Yan He replied bluntly. “Henceforth, I shall venture into the cosmic sea to test my mettle.”
True Saint Ji Guang was stunned. He never expected such outright refusal without even a pretense of an excuse.
“Yan He, what are you trying to—” Anger crept into Ji Guang’s voice.
With a thought, Yan He severed the connection.
True Saint Ji Guang has lost his composure. He must be desperate. Saint Yan He reflected. Trying to force me to hunt Devil Emperor Xia? He’s grasping at straws, hoping I can eliminate this future threat.
But why should I do his dirty work? A cold glint flashed in Saint Yan He’s eyes.
Had there been no danger, he wouldn’t have minded slaying an Abyssal Devil Emperor. But with such high risk, he refused. He had only one life.
I’m not Hong Yun. Saint Yan He was proud, and moreover, he held little fear of True Saint Ji Guang.
I might as well return to the cosmic sea for quiet cultivation. I may even advance my self-created Dao substantially. Then I too can establish my own Saint Realm. Why rely on others? With a flicker of movement, Saint Yan He vanished, heading in the opposite direction to avoid Devil Emperor Xia entirely.
…
Argh! Damn it! This Yan He dares to disobey me as well? Ji Guang’s fury peaked, yet he felt helpless. He had never held much control over Yan He.
There’s no other way. True Saint Ji Guang gritted his teeth. I must seek an audience with the Dao Zenithel.
The Abyss Alliance, a loose faction, ranked among the top factions in the cosmic sea. Its ability to maintain cohesion for so long was fundamentally due to the willingness of those Abyssal Dao Zenithel Eternals to join forces.
They permitted the True Saint Eternals and Dao Pioneer Eternals beneath them to compete freely. As long as the Dao Zenithel Eternals at the top stood together, the Abyss Alliance remained stable as a mountain.
Within the Abyss Alliance every True Saint Eternal pledged allegiance to a Dao Zenithel Eternal. True Saint Ji Guang was no exception.
Throughout the boundless cosmic sea, Dao Zenithel Eternals occupied the absolute pinnacle, revered by countless eternal lifeforms.
…
Within the headquarters of the Eldritch Court stood a towering black tower that seemed to span infinite spacetime.
This was the Eldritch Progenitor Hall—a place that struck terror into countless Eternals across the cosmic sea. Other factions called it the Blood Eldritch Hall, for the Eldritch Court’s majesty was built upon the blood of numerous Eternals and sempiternal beings.
Inside the hall, countless worlds overlapped.
Within one vast, mysterious realm, a blurry figure stood in the boundless void.
“A Legend of the River? It’s happening faster than I anticipated.” Her gentle voice echoed through infinite spacetime, instinctively evoking warmth.
“He’s broken through again. Ji Guang? Very well, I’ll leave you as his whetstone.” The blurry figure murmured, aware of all that had transpired in the Abyss.
“Hm?” Eldritch Progenitor Hou Tu’s hazy divine eyes swept across the void. “You wish to return from nothingness?
“Nanga! Did you ask my permission? What I do not agree to, you cannot achieve!” Eldritch Progenitor Hou Tu appeared to speak to herself, but her voice carried a unique authority.
Her words became reality, seemingly imbued with special Daos and Laws.
Silently, waves of inexplicable fluctuaions spread throughout the megaverse, causing the entire megaverse to undergo some strange transformation.
…
Deep within the cosmic sea, at the Abyss Alliance headquarters, True Saint Ji Guang’s face turned ashen as he gazed into the endless dark void.
“It failed?” He asked in disbelief. “Dao Zenithel, why did the revival fail? Saint Hong Yun was young and had never been revived before. She should have been able to return.”
“Someone has erased all of Hong Yun’s imprints in samsara!” A vast, majestic voice resounded through the dark spacetime. “They’ve obliterated all possibilities of her past and future.”
The voice paused heavily.
“Saint Hong Yun has truly perished! I am powerless to change this.”
