CHAOS HEIR

Chapter 1113 Anchor

Chapter 1113 Anchor

Khan felt as if he was looking at the world from behind the eyes of a stranger. He saw but also didn't. Everything was muffled as if hidden behind several spongy layers that clouded vision, hearing, and perception.

Khan also felt like he had awakened from a long, mystical dream. He recalled his consciousness spreading through the stars, sensing their very breathing. Meanwhile, his current perception was wrong, way too limited for a being of his stature.

Still, that mere concept sounded wrong. Khan never dreamt. He only had nightmares, so he couldn't possibly have memories of something he couldn't experience. Those sensations had to come from somewhere else, but Khan couldn't pinpoint where.

Khan kept looking at Hughie, and a primordial, bottomless hunger spread through his brain. He believed he hadn't eaten in years and was starving now. That puny human couldn't possibly satiate him, but it was a start.

Nevertheless, Khan suddenly noticed the hand on Hughie's shoulder. That intact but scarred arm was his own limb, but something felt off. Didn't he break it? Wasn't its flesh mangled, torn, and ripped open?

Confusion built inside Khan as he followed his limb to its source, gazing down at his body. Rags of torn clothes were somehow still lingering on him, attached to his skin due to their wetness. Khan couldn't see any injury, and even his legs were fine, but didn't he break those, too?

'No, only the right was broken,' Khan recalled, but even thinking felt strange. His thoughts were distant, hindered by some kind of barrier, and his body didn't help with his confusion.

Khan clearly recalled being on the verge of death, but there he was, perfectly fine. A strange strength also ran through him, empowering his body but deepening his confusion. Everything felt wrong as if belonging to two different perspectives.

Khan could only lift his gaze again at that point. He barely spared Hughie a single glance before refocusing on his scarred hand. A sense of familiarity spread inside Khan when he studied those shallow, closed wounds, but a sharp pain rose through his brain as soon as he tried to dive deeper into that feeling.

A grunt escaped Khan's mouth, but even that voice felt wrong. He flinched, squinting his eyes to keep them on his arm, only for his vision to change. Scales suddenly replaced his limb but disappeared as soon as Khan blinked. He tried to search for them again, but the pain inside his brain intensified.

A torrent of memories flooded Khan's mind as the pain intensified. He closed his eyes and covered his face with his free hand, but the visions didn't stop. Images from tens and hundreds of star systems washed over him, but conflicting scenes occasionally popped up among them. They were clouded and only appeared for a fraction of a second, but Khan felt a deeper connection with them, so he chased after them.

At first, Khan saw a gargantuan snake floating before him, but that image quickly disappeared, throwing him back into the flood of memories from countless star systems.

Then, Khan managed to summon a short video depicting a torrent of lightning bolts crashing and exploding onto that giant creature. The purple-red light they released was brighter than everything else in the scene, as was its familiarity.

A clicking cry echoed in Khan's brain before the torrent of strange memories resumed flowing, drowning the shout. Sensations from countless planets and the beings that inhabited them flooded him, assaulting his sense of self. However, Khan eventually summoned another familiar image depicting an underwater lake with humanoid figures.

Khan didn't know why, and the sensation didn't make much sense, but he felt attached to those humanoid figures. Theoretically, they shouldn't be more than puny beings unworthy of his attention, but his heart ached, bleeding to no end for reasons he couldn't pinpoint.

Then, a thunderous noise resounded inside Khan's mind, fending off that cascade of magnificent but overwhelming images, snapping him back to reality. He abruptly opened his eyes, and their light shone on his scarred hand. His senses also resumed working at full power, updating him on his surroundings.

Khan was still confused. His head hurt to no end and threatened to split open. Coravis' natural and soft illumination shone on him, but his glowing eyes perceived it as blinding and almost closed under that radiance. Yet, Khan endured the discomfort since he felt the endless torrent of images drawing closer again.

Khan breathed roughly. He lowered his right arm and inspected his surroundings, but nothing caught his attention. He knew he needed something to bind his mind to reality, but the world didn't offer anything valuable.

Still, Khan's instincts kept screaming, so he decided to follow them. His eyes darted left and right until he turned his head, looking down at the back of his shoulder.

Khan's eyes shone on the blue symbol on his shoulder and fixed on it. That simple but profound rune acted as an anchor that drew Khan closer to reality and grounded him there, dispersing part of his confusion and bringing back his sense of self.

Seemingly endless seconds went by while Khan stared at the Niqols' tattoo. His breathing stabilized until he felt confident in diverting his gaze.

Khan looked at the stunned and powerless man in his grasp before his attention moved to his peculiar hat. He recognized the white symbol sewn into its fabric. That figure marked the White Mouse crew.

'What is the White Mouse crew doing here?' Khan wondered before a more intense wave of pain spread through his mind, attempting to pierce his skull.

Khan felt on the verge of losing himself again but held strong at that time. He threw Hughie away, who flew powerlessly through the air, escaping the storm's boundary. His body took a while to lose momentum and descend, threatening to fall into the sea again, but that moment never came.

Hughie didn't really understand what had happened or what was going on. In many ways, he was a simple man with no real experience in mysterious and marvelous events. He was a mere first-level warrior, but a priceless event unfolded in his eyes that day.

The storm suddenly froze in place. Its tall waves defied gravity and stood still before exploding outward. The sea opened, and its not-waters parted as a blinding purple-red color invaded the world.

Hughie saw a sphere of destructive mana expanding inside the storm and pushing it away. The sea bent, parted, and caved in before that purple-red energy could even touch it, and the process worsened when deafening sparks started to run over that blinding shape.

Nevertheless, the figure at the sphere's center looked brighter than that blinding energy. Khan floated among his spells, seemingly screaming at the sky. The thunders in the area prevented Khan's voice from reaching Hughie, but he didn't need ears to inspect the following development.

An even brighter light started to shine inside Khan's mouth. The noise intensified, and the sea parted even more until a lightning bolt escaped Khan's throat, piercing the crackling sphere around him to explode into the sky.
