The humming of a sword rang out, and Feng Wuji’s voice came to an abrupt halt.
He caught a glimpse of the six-inch sword hovering over Su Yi’s head out of the corner of his eye, and he watched as it slashed the air.
Before he could respond… Boom!
Chaotic sword qi suppressed the Yin-Yang Diagram hovering above him, making it tremble. An indent formed on its surface.
Feng Wuji staggered back on impact.
He snorted coldly, and his entire body surged with unearthly, imposing black light. He raised his hand, as if supporting the heavens, and poured his full strength into the Yin-Yang Diagram.
Weng!
Chaos mist flowed over the surface of the fourth of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos, bursting with imposing might and smoothly neutralizing the sword qi.
Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising. “No wonder the Book of Karma said that in terms of defense, the Yin-Yang Diagram is the greatest of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos.”
He was attacking with the Sword of Proximity. He thought that’d be enough to shake his opponent, but in the end, the Yin-Yang Diagram blocked his attacks.“Su Yi, I wouldn’t have thought a man of your reputation would resort to a sneak attack,” sighed Feng Wuji. He was smiling, but his eyes glinted with pure mockery.
“It’s still better than the way you’re using someone’s life to threaten me,” said Su Yi. As his calm voice rang out, he attacked once more.
Clang!
He leaped forward, continuously swinging the Sword of Proximity. Streaks of chaotic sword qi descended from the heavens, cleaving into Feng Wuji in rapid succession.
A deafening impact rang out.
Su Yi and Feng Wuji were locked in fierce combat, but it was already clear who had the advantage.
Su Yi attacked with domineering force, pummeling Feng Wuji with a rapid-fire onslaught of sword qi. The Yin-Yang Diagram quivered and wailed without end.
In stark contrast, Feng Wuji was obviously on the passive. He was like a turtle hiding in his shell. All he could do was neutralize Su Yi’s attacks.
Furthermore, every time the Yin-Yang Diagram blocked a blow, the aftershock reached him, making his blood and qi churn. It hurt so much that he almost coughed up blood.
“Su Yi! If you don’t stop now, don’t blame me for my poor manners!!” Feng Wuji bellowed, his eyes shining with madness.
Su Yi disregarded him and swung the Sword of Proximity without the slightest politeness. With his other hand, he slammed the Book of Karma into the Yin-Yang Diagram.
The Yin-Yang Diagram wouldn’t be able to take much more.
“Ol’ Diagram, hurry up and dodge! Even if you were stronger, how could you be any match for Third Brother Sword?
“And Su Yi is ruthless to the core! Even if your defenses were far greater, I guarantee that you won’t be able to take it! Hurry!
“Don’t tell me you’ve actually accepted that guy as your master?”
…The Book of Karma was frantic. Even as it sent its red power of karmic attachments sweeping toward the diagram, it repeatedly tried to connect with it.
But he got no response at all.
Suddenly, Feng Wuji bellowed, “Enough!”
His habitual radiant smile darkened. “Dare you fight me without using external objects?”
He was frustrated and certain that Su Yi was suppressing him thanks to his superior weaponry.
“Sure.” Su Yi immediately stopped mid-strike.
But Feng Wuji just laughed coldly and said, “If I kill you now, who will find Undying Demon Gold for me?”
With that, he shot away, creating distance between himself and Su Yi.
“...” Su Yi didn’t know what to say. He wouldn’t have guessed that Feng Wuji, an unparalleled, ruthless figure, practically a fiend in human form, would be so capricious.
Off in the distance, Feng Wuji’s habitual grin returned. “More importantly, I’m different from the other divine children. I’m not at all interested in killing you. Of course, if you insist on bringing pain upon yourself, I promise to give you what you want…. After you’ve brought Undying Demon Gold back from the Forbidden Demon Ruins.”
Su Yi said calmly, “A man’s word ought to carry immense weight, but you’re capricious, and your promises are as worthless as farts. I do not trust your character.”
Feng Wuji’s expression shifted.
Su Yi continued, “Tell me how to undo the seal on the jade bottle, and I’ll agree to take a trip into the Forbidden Demon Ruins.”
Feng Wuji laughed derisively. “Do you really think I’d believe that?”
“In the Immortal Realm, even those who hate me to the core acknowledge that I’m a man of my word,” said Su Yi. “Not even my enemies would dare criticize me in that regard. If you’ve done any research on me, I’m sure you know that full well.”
Feng Wuji fell silent.
A little while later, he suddenly sighed. “I hate to admit it, but I believe you.”
He tossed a jade slip to Su Yi. “The secret method’s in there. You’re welcome to have a look before you set off.”
Su Yi took a deep, hard look at him. “You ought to celebrate that you handed this over without making any further attempts to threaten Ning Xiu’s life.”
With that, he turned and shot toward the massive chasm in the sky.
Feng Wuji couldn’t help but ask, “You haven’t even looked at the jade slip. Why?”
“If you really want your Undying Demon Gold, you wouldn’t dare to deceive me.”
Before Su Yi’s voice had even finished echoing through the air, he disappeared.
Feng Wuji stood there, rooted to the spot. His eyes flashed, as if he’d encountered an enormous, difficult problem.
A while later, he silently fished another handful of sunflower seeds and started snacking, but his thoughts were obviously elsewhere. He didn’t crack the seeds with the same deftness as before.
My ancestor was right. Even though Su Yi is just the reincarnation of the Swordmaster of Spiritual Desolation, his bearing is far beyond other people… Feng Wuji murmured inwardly.
He couldn’t help but recall something his ancestor had once said to him: “If you encounter Li Fuyou’s reincarnation, you must proceed with the utmost caution. Better to do nothing than to act recklessly!”
Furthermore, Feng Wuji knew that once, a long time ago, his ancestor suffered a crushing defeat at Li Fuyou’s hands. There was no erasing the marks of that bitter lesson!
……
The Cave of Divine Tears was an unknown and perilous forbidden zone. Wang Ye had explored here prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals, but a terrifying divine tribulation intercepted him, leaving him with no choice but to retreat.
According to Feng Wuji, the Forbidden Demon Ruins, the place where Undying Demon Gold was hidden, was located within the Cave of Divine Tears!
Upon entering the Cave of Divine Tears, Su Yi saw a run-down, withered plane. Everywhere he looked, he saw barren devastation. Nothing grew here, not even an inch of grass. It was completely devoid of life.
Even the dome of heaven seemed to have collapsed long ago. Dull gray stars hung in the hollowed-out void of the sky, and countless strangely shaped meteorites hovered in the air.
Clouds of dust swept across the landscape, the sound like the wailing of gods and ghosts.
What really startled Su Yi was that here, he couldn’t sense any of the power of the Laws of the Immortal Realm!
Why does this place seem like a place separate from the Immortal Realm? It’s like it’s been forsaken by the will of the heavens…
He suspected that this place was cut off from the Immortal Realm. This plane had most likely been forsaken by the natural order of the Immortal Dao!
Suddenly, a wisp of murky gray electric light exploded into being and slammed into Su Yi.
Bang!!
Su Yi attacked, trying to neutralize it, but to his surprise, the gray electricity was incomparably strange and terrifying. It bore through the power of his palm strike, piercing his defenses with ease.
At a critical juncture, Su Yi took out the Book of Karma. Only then did he just barely manage to block it!
Crunch!
The gray lightning collapsed and broke, scattering electric sparks in all directions.
The Book of Karma shuddered, but uncharacteristically, it didn’t curse Su Yi out this time. It seemed to have sensed something.
Its pages whooshed open, and a line of text appeared. “What kind of unholy place is this? Why does the aura of an Epoch Tribulation linger here!?”
Su Yi couldn’t help but be startled. An Epoch Tribulation!
That was an unsurpassed, calamitous tribulation capable of destroying an entire epoch civilization. Even the lofty gods who presided over the Epoch Law of an epoch civilization couldn’t block a single blow. They too would be completely eradicated!
Every time an Epoch Tribulation descended, it meant an alternation of the epochs. The former epoch civilization would shatter, while a new epoch civilization would be born amidst the chaos.
Who’d have thought that they’d find remnants of an Epoch Tribulation’s aura in the Dark Northern Sea’s Cave of Divine Tears?
Didn’t that mean that this seemingly withered, forsaken ground was most likely from the epoch civilization that existed prior to the Immortal Realm?
“I’m screwed! Be careful. This time, you’re on your own! If any more of that lightning imbued with the power of an Epoch Tribulation hits me, I’ll be doomed!”
The Book of Karma was obviously terrified.
“It was just a trivial wisp of lingering power. Were that a true Epoch Tribulation, you’d already have been destroyed,” Su Yi said casually.
Even though he said this, he was inwardly solemn. There was no doubt about it. Feng Wuji, an unparalleled divine son from the God Domain, understood how terrifying this place was. Not even that famous madman dared venture inside!
Something occurred to Su Yi. If this place is so dangerous, why was Feng Wuji so certain that I could find Undying Demon Gold in here? Is it because I control the power of reincarnation? Or because I have two of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos?
Or is he just trying to get me killed?
As Su Yi pondered, he got to work, venturing further and further into this barren landscape. Along the way, everything was cold, dead, and bleak. Furthermore, there was no natural order of the Immortal Dao to be found. This put extraordinary pressure on his mental state.
Without the laws of the Immortal Dao, there was no way to draw on the power of one’s surroundings. If he exhausted his cultivation base, he’d be like a fish out of water. He’d quickly dry up and perish!
Fortunately, Su Yi had brought an enormous quantity of medicine with him. He didn’t need to worry about that anytime soon. But if he got stuck in here… the consequences would be dire beyond imagination!
Kcch!
Less than ten minutes later, something else unexpected appeared in the distance.
This time, more than ten streaks of gray lightning appeared. Somewhere just about a foot long, while others were hundreds of feet long. All of them emanated an imposing, calamitous luster.
As soon as they appeared, all of them shot toward Su Yi.
The Book of Karma freaked out and tried to flee, only for Su Yi to seize it and use it as a shield. At the same time, he poured the power of reincarnation into the Sword of Proximity and swung it through the air.
Boom!
A swath of chaos sword rain swept outward, manifesting the boundless Sea of Bitterness and blanketing the landscape.
It enveloped the ten-plus gray lightning bolts completely.
The lightning struggled like mad, bursting with calamitous power. It threw the entire Sea of Bitterness into disarray, practically ripping it to pieces.
Still, in the end, the gray lightning couldn’t break free. The power of reincarnation within the boundless Sea of Bitterness frittered it away, inch by inch!
“The power of reincarnation can actually neutralize the aura of an Epoch Tribulation?”
The Book of Karma was overcome with shock.
A strange light shone in Su Yi’s eyes.
