During the wait for the High Priest’s arrival, Zara had been eagerly chatting with Aria. The majority of their conversation revolved around Charles.

“I didn’t realize that you all went through so many trials to obtain the Tears of an Angel,” Aria said with a sense of admiration. “I must especially thank you, Charles.”

“Your Majesty, you are too kind,” Charles replied with a smile.

“Since your purpose for coming to the Atacama Desert was to obtain the materials for upgrading your mystical beast, I’ll have someone guide you to the Serpent Empire’s treasure vault to find the appropriate upgrade materials soon,” Aria offered, presenting an extraordinarily generous reward.

Although the Serpent Empire had already fallen apart, the treasure vault must still contain many priceless items. It’s possible that it even holds the mystical beast upgrade materials Charles needs.

“Thank you so much!” Charles responded excitedly.

If he could truly find the mystical beast upgrade materials in the Serpent Empire’s vault, he would save a great deal of time.

Just as Charles finished thanking Aria, the door to the chambers was pushed open. A maid swiftly approached Aria’s side and whispered something.

“Your Majesty, the High Priests have all arrived. General Sost is also waiting for your summons.”

Aria’s eyes flashed with a hint of surprise. Charles quickly caught this subtle change. Though Aria tried to hide it, he could tell that her surprised look appeared when she heard that General Sost was also waiting for her.

“Since they are all here, let them in,” Aria said in a calm tone.

After the maid left, the High Priests entered the chamber. Among them were, of course, the two High Priests that Charles had encountered before. All of the High Priests wore expressions of excitement.

They immediately approached Aria and offered their congratulations.

“Blessed by the ancestors, Your Majesty, you have finally regained your health!” the High Priests of the Serpent People exclaimed loudly as they knelt before her.

At that moment, Charles noticed a Serpent dressed differently from the High Priests, which he assumed was General Sost.

“Indeed, we must thank the ancestors for their blessings,” Aria said with a smile. “But aside from the ancestors’ blessings, Charles’ contribution must also not be overlooked.”

Everyone turned their gaze toward Charles.

All of the High Priests were already scrutinizing Charles, and the expression on the face of the High Priest who had once made things difficult for him was particularly dark, like still water.

“Your Majesty, now that you have regained your health, are you able to handle state affairs?” the High Priest who had previously troubled Charles stood up and asked Aria.

Aria looked at him with a smile and slowly shook her head.

“High Priest Aldany, my health has not fully recovered, so I am still unable to handle state affairs in the short term. The matter of handling state affairs should still be entrusted to you and High Priest Kent,” Aria replied.

Her words did not elicit much of a response. After all, the High Priests of the Serpent People could tell that Aria’s condition was still not fully restored.

Charles, however, had a different view from the High Priests of the Serpent People. He hadn’t expected that the High Priest who had been making things difficult for him was actually the regent.

Although Aria had regained consciousness and could issue orders, she couldn’t manage everything for Charles. Aldany, as the regent of the Serpent Empire, had always found ways to make things difficult for him. In this situation, Charles naturally wouldn’t accept things easily.

“Your Majesty, I have something I wish to say,” Charles stepped forward and walked to the center of the chamber.

All of the Serpents turned their attention to Charles.

Aria hesitated slightly, but ultimately she gave her consent.

“Speak your mind.”

Having been granted permission, Charles first swept his gaze over the Serpent High Priests. Then, he focused his attention on High Priest Aldany.

“I believe that High Priest Aldany should no longer continue as regent!”

As soon as he spoke these words, the Serpents began to murmur amongst themselves.

High Priest Aldany remained silent, standing there with a faint smile, looking at Charles.

Aria’s expression remained unchanged. It seemed as though she wasn’t at all surprised by Charles’ actions.

“Silence! This is the royal court!”

General Sost, standing at the back, shouted loudly.

The Serpents immediately quieted down.

Aria, with a neutral expression, turned to Charles and asked, “Why? You’ve only just arrived in our Serpent Empire. Why do you think High Priest Aldany should no longer serve as regent? His performance has always been excellent in the past.”

“Your Majesty, you are unaware. When I arrived with the Tears of an Angel, he deliberately obstructed me. Without careful consideration, he accused me of being a spy from the Stellar Empire,” Charles described everything that had happened in detail.

“His real intention in doing so was to prevent you from receiving treatment, Your Majesty. That way, he could continue to control the Serpent Empire.”

As Charles stated his conclusion, the atmosphere in the chamber grew extremely oppressive.

Everyone turned their gaze toward High Priest Aldany. They were all waiting for his response.

Under their scrutiny, High Priest Aldany sneered coldly.

“Absurd! Everything you say is based on mere speculation. You are a human, and it is natural for me to be suspicious of you. Moreover, the Tears of an Angel you brought back cannot be verified as authentic. It is utterly unreasonable to allow someone like you, a human, to approach Her Majesty the Queen.”

Some of the Serpent People’s High Priests believed Aldany’s defense, while others remained doubtful.

As for Aria, she gave no indication of her opinion. She was waiting for Charles’ response.

But before Charles could reply, Zara stood up, her emotions slightly stirred.

“You deliberately ignored a crucial piece of information! Charles didn’t come here alone—he came with me. Even if he is not to be trusted, doesn’t that mean I am not to be trusted as well? I am the Queen’s most trusted bodyguard!”

Once Zara spoke, Aldany’s position became extremely precarious.

As Zara had said, Charles, as a human, could indeed not be easily trusted by the Serpents. But Zara was absolutely someone who should be trusted.

Aldany felt a moment of panic, but he quickly regained his composure.

“You are indeed trustworthy, but your understanding of the Tears of an Angel is limited. You cannot prove that what he brought back is the real deal.”

Aldany’s defense was weak.

Zara was sent by Aria herself. If even Zara couldn’t determine the authenticity of the Tears of an Angel, then no one in the Serpent Empire could.

The Serpent High Priests began to harbor deep doubts about Aldany.

Aldany felt the suspicious gazes of the other High Priests.

Realizing his predicament, he made a bold decision and suddenly knelt before Aria.

“Your Majesty, if you truly believe their words, then remove my regency position! Regardless of what happens, I am innocent in my conscience!”

Aria examined Aldany carefully.

She indeed did not trust him, but his credentials were far too old and established. Moreover, the tribe he led was the strongest among the Serpent tribes she could control at present.

Removing Aldany from his regency position rashly could very well cause the Serpent faction under her control to split again. This could lead to the complete destruction of the Serpent Empire.

Seconds ticked by.

Aria remained silent.

In the end, High Priest Kent, who stood beside Aldany, stepped forward.

“Your Majesty, may I share my opinion?” he asked.

“Of course! You are also one of the regents, so you are certainly entitled to voice your thoughts,” Aria replied.

With Aria’s permission, High Priest Kent expressed his judgment.

“High Priest Aldany’s actions certainly have some flaws. However, past experiences have shown us that it is always wise to remain cautious of humans.”

At this point, Kent’s gaze shifted toward Charles.

“What I’m about to say may be somewhat offensive, but I must speak the truth. Before you, I have never seen any human offer us help. So, to this day, I still do not trust you.”

Kent’s words successfully convinced all the Serpent High Priests.

Both Charles and Aria realized that Aldany’s regency position was secured.

Charles felt slightly disappointed, but he hadn’t really expected his words to succeed.

After all, the Serpent Empire was still at war with humanity. Although he would never side with the Stellar Empire, his identity could not be changed—he was human, and would never naturally gain the Serpent’s trust.

Aria cleared her throat twice, drawing everyone’s attention to herself.

“High Priest Kent is correct. Although High Priest Aldany’s caution was excessive, it was also necessary. High Priest Aldany, you will continue as regent.”

Aldany stood up, slightly excited, and pledged his loyalty to Aria.

Aria, in turn, reassured Aldany with calm words.

Though everything seemed a bit contrived, the final effect was positive. Under Aria’s command, High Priest Aldany made peace with Charles on the surface.

This royal court meeting drained a lot of Aria’s energy, as her condition was still not fully recovered. Therefore, she only discussed the most important matters before dismissing everyone.
