Global Beast Mastery: Only I Can See the Hints
Chapter 609 - 609: General SostAccording to Aria’s orders, the High Priests continued to handle the administration of the Serpent Empire as usual. Zara then took Charles to the Serpent Empire’s treasure vault, where Charles could take any treasures he desired.
General Sost, on the other hand, was sent straight back to the front lines. After all, the recent war between the Serpent Empire and the Stellar Empire had been incredibly intense.
Before leaving the Serpent’s Eye Lake Oasis, General Sost made a point of meeting with Charles. Charles also wanted to get to know General Sost better. So, the two of them met directly at the entrance to the oasis.
“I’ve seen many humans in my time, but you are the only one willing to offer help to the Serpents. You’ve truly taken me by surprise,” General Sost said bluntly.
Charles smiled and replied, “Her Majesty the Queen has helped me a great deal in the past, so it is only right that I repay her kindness. In fact, many humans are willing to cooperate with you; it’s just that you haven’t encountered them.”
General Sost chuckled.
Charles could tell that Sost didn’t quite believe him.
“I am telling the truth,” Charles continued. “Of course, there are many bad people among humans, but there are also plenty of good ones. I’ll be staying in the desert for a while, and during that time, I am even willing to help you fight against the Stellar Empire.”
This statement greatly surprised General Sost.
Sost fixed his gaze on Charles for a long while. “Are you serious? As a human, why wouldn’t you side with the Stellar Empire?”
“General, you’re joking!” Charles responded. “I am human, but does that mean I must automatically side with the Stellar Empire? There are many nations in the human world. Besides, the crown prince of the Stellar Empire and I have a very bad relationship.”
Charles had no intention of hiding this information. On the contrary, he planned to tell the Serpents as much as possible about his conflicts with the crown prince of the Stellar Empire. Only by doing so would the Serpents truly be willing to cooperate with him.
“The other human nations…” General Sost murmured. “I’ve only heard of them. I’ve never actually met anyone from these nations.”
“Well, now you have!” Charles said with a laugh.
The two of them laughed heartily. Both of them had a good impression of each other.
To Charles, General Sost appeared to be a very straightforward soldier. He seemed to care only about the war between the Serpent Empire and the Stellar Empire.
To General Sost, it was clear that Charles was definitely not a person from the Stellar Empire.
The two of them continued to chat for a while, and then General Sost took the initiative to say goodbye.
“You are truly interesting! I would love to talk with you more, but the situation at the front is very intense. I must hurry back to the battlefield. Once I’ve defeated this wave of attacks from the Stellar Empire, I’ll return to the oasis and we can have a proper conversation.”
“Agreed! But you’ll need to move quickly. If I finish my own plans first, I’ll simply leave. By then, you won’t have the chance to talk to me,” Charles replied.
Charles stood at the entrance to the oasis, watching as General Sost and his group departed.
Zara, standing beside Charles, seemed somewhat reflective.
“Perhaps you’ll have the chance to fight side by side on the battlefield someday. Didn’t you once tell me that you plan to make the crown prince of the Stellar Empire pay dearly?” Zara asked Charles directly.
Charles nodded.
“Of course! I will make him pay a heavy price. However, he might not even show up here. The Stellar Empire’s influence is vast, and the Atacama Desert doesn’t seem to hold much importance for them.”
After saying their farewells to General Sost, the two of them naturally headed toward the Serpent Empire’s treasure vault.
However, they were unable to enter the vault in the end.
A group of Serpent soldiers blocked their way.
“By order of the two regents, the imperial treasure vault has been sealed. No one is allowed to enter.”
Charles had anticipated this situation.
So, he didn’t plan on saying much. He simply wanted to see how Zara would handle it.
Zara, of course, knew exactly why this was happening. It was clearly a deliberate act of obstruction by High Priest Aldany.
“Did the two regents explain the reason for this?” Zara asked the soldiers in front of them directly.
“The two regents did not explain! We are simply following orders. As soldiers, we do not need to question the reason behind the orders!” the captain of the Serpent soldiers replied firmly.
He knew very well who Zara was, but he was a subordinate of High Priest Aldany and a member of the Serpent tribe that Aldany belonged to.
He was extremely loyal to High Priest Aldany, and in some ways, his loyalty to Aldany even surpassed his loyalty to the Serpent Queen.
Zara grew a little angry. “Fine then! I’ll go ask the two regents myself!”
With that, she grabbed Charles and headed for the pyramid where the regents were located.
The two of them quickly arrived at the entrance to the pyramid.
Charles was slightly surprised to find that they were not stopped at all, and the two of them were directly brought before High Priest Kent.
“High Priest, why did you order the treasure vault to be sealed? You must have heard Her Majesty the Queen’s clear command. The Queen wishes to reward Charles for his achievements with the treasures in the vault,” Zara asked Kent directly.
High Priest Kent nodded calmly.
“Of course, I heard Her Majesty’s command. However, I believe Her Majesty’s command is somewhat unwise. Charles indeed has made significant contributions, but he absolutely cannot take every treasure he desires.”
“So, what you’re saying is that you are no longer following the Queen’s orders?” Charles coldly retorted.
Although Kent had not shown any obvious hostility before, now that he stood with Aldany, it was clear that he was Charles’ enemy. Charles would not be polite to his enemies.
“Her Majesty’s health has not fully recovered. She has entrusted the governing power to Aldany and me. Therefore, we have the authority to issue specific orders,” Kent replied firmly.
But after saying this, his tone softened slightly.
“You may take some treasures from the vault. After we select all the important treasures, you may choose what you wish from the remaining items.”
Charles sneered.
“You’ll take all the valuable things, leave me with a pile of useless junk, and then expect me to thank you? Don’t go too far! Do you really think I’ll just let you control me?”
By the time Charles finished speaking, his tone was ice-cold.
Zara, standing beside him, could sense the murderous intent emanating from him.
The temperature inside the pyramid seemed to drop several degrees, and all the Serpents present could feel it.
High Priest Kent also sensed the threat in Charles’ words, but he maintained his indifferent tone.
“Human, don’t push it! Even the warriors of the Serpent People do not have the right to choose their own treasures from the vault! Letting you into the vault to pick treasures is already a special reward in itself.”
As soon as Kent finished speaking, a large group of Serpent soldiers rushed out from the room behind him.
Charles quickly scanned the Serpent soldiers.
The Serpent soldiers were generally not very strong, and none of them were Beast Masters. This meant that Charles didn’t need to exert his full strength to easily defeat them.
“Since you all want to die, then I’ll send you to your deaths!” Charles said coldly.
The light of the black gold long knife flashed suddenly, and all of Charles’ mystical beasts were prepared for battle.
Just as the fight was about to break out, Zara rushed into the middle of the group.
“Everyone, calm down! Let’s allow Her Majesty the Queen to make the decision,” she said, then turned her gaze to Charles.
She kept signaling Charles with her eyes, but Charles didn’t make any move. He continued to stare coldly at High Priest Kent.
In the end, it was High Priest Kent who made the first concession.
“Everyone, disperse! You’re no longer needed here!” he commanded.
At Kent’s order, the Serpent soldiers quickly left the area.
“Zara is right; it seems the final decision can only be made by Her Majesty the Queen! Let’s go and meet her immediately!” Kent said, then walked directly toward Charles. “You’ve always claimed to be Her Majesty the Queen’s helper. You wouldn’t refuse the Queen’s judgment, would you?”
“Charles! Her Majesty will definitely stand with you. If you act now, Aldany’s scheme will succeed,” Zara said, somewhat anxiously.
Charles then realized he had almost fallen into Aldany’s trap.
The reason Aldany hadn’t appeared was to provoke a conflict between him and High Priest Kent. Once he attacked Kent, he would become the enemy of the Serpent People.
After understanding everything, Charles nodded.
“Alright, then. Let’s allow Her Majesty the Queen to make the decision.”
The three of them made their decision and quickly headed toward the pyramid where Aria was.
When they arrived at the entrance to the pyramid, Aria’s maid suddenly delivered a shocking news.
“Her Majesty the Queen has fallen into a coma again!”
The three of them showed extreme shock on their faces.
Zara spoke in a panicked tone, “This is impossible! Even if the Tears of an Angel couldn’t completely remove the curse on Her Majesty, it should have been able to suppress it. How could Her Majesty fall into a coma again?!”
Charles didn’t ask further. He immediately ran toward Aria’s chambers.
He needed to see for himself what was going on with Aria.
