[OP: ]

An empty space… she was surrounded by an empty space.

At first, she could not see anything. Everywhere around her was darkness, there was no sound, no smell, and while she could feel a few abstract things, she could not feel her hands, her fingers, or her feet.

‘…’

When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a dark space.

There was nothing here. She could not see anything, she could feel emotions, but those emotions were the only thing that she could feel right now.

And, as she could understand, all these emotions that she was feeling right now, all these emotions that seemed foreign to her, all of them belonged to beings that she had never come across before.

‘Seems like it has started.’

It was at this moment that Anna realized something– the process had already begun.

The pain that her brother might be in, the anxiety that her sisters might be feeling… she could not feel any of it right now.

The only thing that she was feeling was the presence of some other beings who lived in a different part of the world.

Right now, she was feeling beings that might be chosen as her first partners, beings that met the criterion for selection.

From here on out, as her big brother had taught her, it was all up to her to bring out the best being that she needed more than the ones that would be the best suited for her.

This was a targeted conditional summoning, and she was going to play a crucial role in this process… so, Anna concentrated and started thinking.

‘Big brother asked me three questions.’

The complicated process that Anna had to go through included several physical and mental activities of which, physical activities were something she could look after instinctively, making the mental activities the more important.

‘What kind of friend do I want?’

The questions were guiding lights to her thoughts as well as to her mental actions.

Eon had designed these questions so that they would evoke a certain kind of mental activity within her, making the process of beast filtering much more accurate.

‘Hmm… I’ve thought about this many times.’

She knew the answer to this question already: she wanted a friend like Celes. A friend like her Povpois, a friend like Sir Branwen, a friend like Taika, and a friend that would not only be good with her but also with all of her friends around her.

She did not want someone that would only be attached to her, but also to everything that was present around her. She wanted someone like that, someone who would actively look for newer friends, someone who would play with her and her other friends with just as much enthusiasm as she had when playing with others.

‘Additionally…’

It needed to be strong, smart, and as loyal to her as Celes was to her big brother.

If she was going to be with Them for the rest of her life, she needed to have someone who would not give up on her in any condition, who would not foolishly sacrifice themselves for her or someone who would be logical as well as emotional towards everything around her.

She needed someone like that, she needed someone who would be more than just a friend to her, someone who would be a true partner to her like how her big brother was to her big sister Elle.

‘I want someone like that.’

That is what she wanted. Perhaps that wasn’t what she needed, but this was something she should have for her development.

‘The next question…’

As she was thinking that, the various elements that she could feel around her, the various things or beings that were present all around suddenly lessened.

Some simply vanished, while some popped up out of the blue.

‘What do I want it to look like…’

The process was happening quickly. She could not see anything since she wasn’t really in her body right now and was experiencing something unique, but she was certainly feeling the vanishing and appearance of various different elements possessing various different emotional sets.

Some of the beings that she could feel right now possessed stable emotions, some were afraid right now, some were happy, some were sad, some were lonely, some were brave, and some were bad… they were in the natural habitat that made them that way, but most of these beings possessed a familiar power within them.

It was Arcanum, she knew this energy, and thanks to it, she could feel these various creatures around the world, around the different realms that she was connected to right now.

‘It doesn’t have to be too pretty or gorgeous or anything. I’ll like it however it looks.’

They were finding an arcanum beast for her, an entity that would possess the power of Arcanum that she could get the help of to maintain her own powers.

She possessed Arcanum but she could not use it properly, so through this creature, she needed someone who could help her with the manifestation of her energies.

She needed someone who could help her in more than one manner. And for that, she wasn’t looking for a helpful partner.

At the end of the day, looks were subjective in her eyes. Celes was pretty because she had crystal wings, not because of her blue color.

Taika wasn’t pretty because of her colorful stripes, but how she looked overall.

The povpoi weren’t pretty because they were colorful, they were beautiful because of their childish, cheerful nature.

Looks were subjective, so even though she wanted her first friend to look pretty, something she could admire every day, and someone that would be as pretty as the others around her, even if they were as simple as Mime’s familiar, or something even simpler or plain, then she wouldn’t really mind it. She liked them the way they were and she would accept them the way they are.

She wanted a friend, it did not matter how they looked particularly. She still wished for them to look attractive though, at least deep down she wanted someone like Celes, someone like her Taika.

‘And the final question…’

Before she thought about the second question, there were many kinds of beings around her. She was connected to all kinds of realms and spaces so she was interacting with a lot of beings spiritually.

She could feel some beings that did not have good intentions or beings that were malicious. However, after the second question, many of them vanished and once again, new beings with a unique feeling to them appeared around her.

‘Why do I need this being?’

The newer beings were more… attractive. They seemed much calmer and better compared to the previous creatures, and among them were creatures that she was attracted to on a fundamental level.

There were still a lot of them around her until this point. But, as soon as she thought about the third question as if balloons were popping up, the creatures around her started disappearing with a Poof!

Anna was stunned by the sudden event, but she kept thinking about what she was supposed to do, being herself even in this unfamiliar situation.

‘I want to get stronger…’

Outside, the original summoning circle was reacting furiously to these last few moments.

“Ughh…!”

Eon’s face was covered in blood that had slid out of his nose and eyes. Rein was in a bad state as well and her head was throbbing with each passing moment… keeping track of all the processes that were happening was not an easy task.

But still, the one having the most difficulty here was neither of the two. Zoe, who controlled the artifacts connected to these various devices, was in a critical state right now since handling these devices had put a great toll on her body.

The process was difficult for Anna as well since while she did not know it, her body was almost breaking apart from the force that had overwhelmed her body.

Without Zoe precisely managing the energy outputs throughout the spell circle, she would not have been in good condition.

It was thanks to the three of them outside of the summoning circle that the summoning process was even going on.

-Oooooooooooong!

But she was still the reason all of this was happening… they were finding a partner for her, for their beloved special little angel.

It had to be perfect. And perhaps it actually went perfectly this time…

-ZAAAAAAAAA…!

[{ Going underground! }]

[{ Proceed! }]

There was a light surrounding her right now. It was green, which indicated the final process was finishing…

-Click!

It was an indication, so Zoe reacted quickly and pulled a switch that made the innermost part of the array with Anna’s body sink down a level.

The rest of the array started vanishing right after that moment, the rest of the room bursting in a new light that blinded even the three of them.

‘That is all…’

Anna, lost in the darkness and surrounded by various sparkling elements, finally opened her eyes to her original body.

She had finished doing what she was told, and even though she wanted to stop and think about other things many times, she followed her heart and continued how Eon had asked her.

There were times when she did not follow what he said, but he had already thought about it and made appropriate preparations with that in mind.

He had already foreseen what she would do and what she would not, he had designed his method with those things in mind.

And finally… as the fruit of their continuous efforts of all these days and weeks, they had finally achieved their goal.

‘It was a success.’

They had succeeded in summoning something.

In the place where Anna was, in the place that had just sunk down a level to protect Anna, there stood a certain being that did not look particularly threatening.

{ “…?” }

It was a simple creature, or at least, it looked simple…
