Chapter 939: Yandere Wife

The battlefield was in chaos.

Greenvale soldiers screamed as Vex cut them down one after the other. Her blade sang in the air, wreathed in shadows that danced to her heartbeat. Arrows ricocheted off her protective warding hexes, spells shattered against her cursed mantle. The air around her was impossibly thick with mana and blood as she massacred her enemies with a cruel grin adorning her lips.

And then… *Chime!*

Her communication crystal, tucked beneath her chestplate, hummed to life.

She sliced through the next three soldiers in her path, making their heads hit the dirt before their bodies even realized they were dead. “Damn it!” she hissed, yanking the crystal free with a blood-slicked hand. “If Black Fang or Orianna dares call me again to do this or that, I swear… I don’t care if the front line is crumbling at 20 locations at once! Bother someone else about it!”

But as she was whining about the unfairness of her treatment, suddenly, she froze.

Dead still.

Her eyes flicked down to the magical mana crystals etched into her artifact.

The one that glowed this time around wasn’t her cruel master or her even crueler big sis.

It belonged to the one person who managed to ignite her cold, ancient heart with a myriad of alien emotions, making her feel things she only thought possible in silly romance novels.

Quinlan Elysiar. Her once-future husband, now beloved soulmate.

Her heartbeat skipped. Then thundered.

“No. No way.”

Soldiers were charging again, seeing her distracted. But she didn’t even look at them this time around.

*FWOOM!*

The entire squad turned to bloody mist and scattered limbs as she unleashed a black hexburst in all directions around her, her form vanishing and reappearing in a swirl of shadows through their ranks, leaving nothing but splatters behind.

They dared interrupt this moment?

Her husband was calling.

Vex had no more time to give to these worthless ants now that her beloved entered the picture.

She accepted the call, almost too afraid to speak. “If this is some cruel joke, if someone is playing with this frequency…”

She was cut off.

Not by words.

But by a low, rich chuckle.

The kind that curled through her spine.

Her knees buckled instantly. Her breath hitched.

“… It’s really you…” she whispered, voice cracking, eyes glistening.

“Of course it is,” came the reply, voice deep and amused. “Miss me?”

“Stop asking such dumb questions or you’ll regret it!!” she laughed out loud with a choked sob of pure joy tearing free from her throat. “I need to see you now.”

“Sorry, sorry… The feeling is mutual, my sexy Hexwitch. Where are you?”

“Deep in Greenvale trenches. But Xyrenis City is close.”

“Good. Signal me when you’re in range. I’ll open a [Warp Gate] in one of the alleys.”

As the words registered in her brain, she instantly beamed. Her whole body was vibrating with mana and exhilaration.

Like a maiden hearing from her prince after a hundred years apart, she didn’t hesitate.

“Keep the line open!” she ordered, already sheathing her blade and vanishing into shadows, leaving the active battlefield behind without a single care in the world. “Don’t you dare hang up on me!”

She bolted, moving at terrifying speed. The miles between her and Xyrenis blurred beneath her feet. Throughout her journey, both monsters and soldiers came into her path. She didn’t slow. Didn’t swing her sword. She simply ran them over, her velocity being so overwhelming that they burst into bloodied scraps the moment they touched her.

Within mere seconds, the city gate loomed ahead.

And in front of it, stood a group of guards, but only the captain had the perception to spot the sprinting blur of death charging straight toward him in time. Her white clothes were stained in gore, her eyes alight with pure wildness and urgency.

He barely had time to lift his halberd and shout:

“Halt! Identify yourse-“

Vex didn’t even slow.

Her fist shot forward like a missile. It collided with his face mid-sentence.

*BOOM!*

His skull detonated.

Blood. Bone. Brain matter. It all sprayed outward in a grotesque halo, splattering across the stone wall behind him. His helmet folded inward like tin under a meteor strike, then clattered uselessly to the ground, still ringing from the impact.

His body didn’t even fall gracefully. It crumpled, ragdoll-limp, legs folding under themselves. She didn’t so much as glance at the mess.

“I have no time for ants when my man has finally returned!” Vex spat, storming forward, blood dripping from her knuckles.

The [Warp Gate] shimmered at the end of the alley.

She rushed toward it with her heart pounding, sheer joy and excitement roaring through her veins. Nothing else mattered. Nothing ever would.

Without a second thought, she lunged into it headfirst, cackling as she vanished into the rift. Vex landed with a solid thud in a clearing surrounded by walls of living wood, deep in Quinlan’s stronghold.

Her crimson eyes locked onto him instantly.

There he stood, tall and quiet, his swirling elemental eyes glowing with layered hues of power, his aura a storm of strength and serenity braided together. He was different now, so much more than before.

But she didn’t have a second to dwell on it.

Because in the very next heartbeat, a message flashed across her mind like a bolt of fate:

[The Primordial Subjugator wishes to Subjugate you! Do you accept?]

Her breath hitched, but not out of fear.

A wide, maniacal grin formed on her delicate lips as she gazed at the sender of the message with eyes of glowing hearts.

And then she screamed with pure, heart-throttling joy:

“YES!!!”

Vex launched herself toward him like a meteor of yandere affection.

*Wham!*

She collided with him, arms flinging around his neck, legs around his waist, body glowing stemming from the endless affection the love-struck maiden had for her beloved.

“Mine mine mine mine mine mine mine…!” she chanted fiercely into his ear.

Quinlan laughed from the bottom of his heart at the adorable possessiveness of his eighth woman with his arms wrapping around her sensual feminine frame instinctively.

“Welcome home, Vex.”
