After the intense battle against the Sky King ended abruptly once the giant bird monster turned out to be a man, Aquarina and her friends were left in shambles, without really knowing what to do next.

Not only did the man barely remembered what he went through, but it seemed he had been living for many years as a monster.

Seeing how ancient the Wind Tribe was, it wouldn’t be an understatement to say he had been like this for thousands of years!

The worst part was that it seemed that this form warped his sense of self, turning him feral and monstrous.

Finally returning to his form after being beaten so hard somehow helped him regain his senses, but he felt strange and sorrowful, as it had been so long since he had ever been in such a form to begin with.

Aquarina and her friends only grew more intrigued as they heard him speak and wanted nothing else but to shower him with questions about who he truly was and also about the past.

“The curse…” Find the source of this chapter at M|V|L-EMPYR.

Suddenly, after some silence, the man finally spoke again, grabbing his head, especially his feather-like hair, very tightly at that.

“I don’t know how it was lifted. Was it because I fought you? But how?”

He looked at Aquarina, who was clueless, as clueless as he was.

“I-I honestly don’t know… I’m really sorry that you’ve been a monster this whole time though.”

She tried to be sympathetic, but she couldn’t help but admit deep down just how awkward this entire situation truly was.

“I have fought so many before, how did this… why now?”

As he groaned, sighing while still crying a bit more, Agua patted his shoulders.

“Perhaps when you were defeated in combat, the curse was lifted?”

“Y-You think so? I… I don’t know if I was ever defeated as a monster… Was it that simple though? I just had to be defeated? No… Why not earlier when it mattered? At this point… It would have been better for me if I died as a monster.”

“P-Please don’t’ say that! You’re a member of such an ancient tribe, we’ve admired your people and their paintings and creations for a long time,” Agua said. “I-I’ll heal you! There must be a purpose for you even in this world in the future, sir.”

FLASH!

The girl used her healing magic to help the feathered man slowly heal up, his wounds disappeared, and the blood from his forehead and arms dissipated as the water washed that away.

“This world… the future…” He muttered, still seemingly rather absentmindedly. “I… I don’t… I don’t know… Thanks for helping me return… I wouldn’t want to bother you anymore than this… I…”

“I know you’re sad about everything that has happened… And honestly, I lack the experience to tell you what you should do but… I bet you’re hungry after being in such a form for so long. We were cooking food recently; I think it still fine… Don’t you want to join us in a meal?”

“A-Ah? A meal…” The man muttered. “But I don’t want to bother you… As you said earlier, I tried… I tried to kill you. I wasn’t being myself, but it was still me who attacked you… I don’t deserve your kindness.”

“Ah shut up already, just come with us,” Justicio sighed. “Its payment for taking that beak of yours, which I hope hasn’t turned into mana like the rest of your body… I’m keeping it as a material.”

“B-Beak?” the man wondered, looking so large, yet his personality was sorrowful and shy. “I… Oh, I remember now… that sharp pain. For a moment, it brought me back. And I was so confused, so sad… I couldn’t stop crying… Thank you, perhaps what you did to me helped me return too.”

“Huh?! I literally cut your beak off… But sure, you’re welcome…” Justicio sighed. “Hey Aquarina, is the beak still there or?”

“It’s still there, yeah,” Aquarina nodded. “I guess body parts that are cut off from his transformation don’t turn into magic power unlike the rest of his body? Well, whatever, it’s not like that’s a nice subject or topic to talk about. For now, yeah, let’s go eat. Thanks for helping everyone, especially you Pyuku! Are you alright?”

“I-I’m fine… Guuuuhh…”

Pyuku slowly began to reform back, as he looked like a mess, splattered everywhere. Aquarina conjured all her healing spells on him, and Agua gave him plenty of Spiritual Water.

Slowly, all his bits came back together, and he was fully healed… Slimes were probably the only living beings out there capable of surviving being torn to shreds.

“Phew… much better, thanks!” Pyuku said, looking at the bird man. “Hey, so you’re… kind of like me, huh?”

“You? A-Ah, I don’t really… I don’t know…” The man muttered. “I have… never seen a being like you before. Are you a spirit of water?”

“I am a Slime!” Said Pyuku. “But well, whatever I am doesn’t really matter, and it shouldn’t matter to you either. You’re… yourself! As Aquarina and Sylphy have told me. You’re still confused and figuring things out, your mind is dizzy and all, but you should be thankful you’ve got people here that actually care about you. Most of the time, it wouldn’t be the case.”

“You’re… you’re right… Thank you for your wise words, Slime…” The man nodded calmly, closing his eyes, he inhaled and then exhaled, slowly meditating, sitting cross-legged and trying to remain calm, to relax after so long. “I’ve lived a life cursed as a beast, and now, I am finally free from it. And yet the horrors I committed as a monster remain within me… To live another day is to live in the agony knowing I destroyed everything I loved…”

He glanced at Agua, as he patted her hand.

“But perhaps… life has given me a new purpose… I must repay your kindness, and what you’ve done for me…”

“O-Oh…”

Agua blushed as she saw the man slightly smile at him.

For a moment, everyone remained in silence as they glanced at the two of them.
