THE INVINCIBLE FULL-MOON SYSTEM

Chapter 1473 - 1473: Aurelian Fortress (2)

In the next hour, the one-eyed guard and the other guard were in mental turmoil.

Both of them didn’t expect the situation to turn out like this.

“Rainbow Chicken!”

“Here you go,”

“Corrupted Two-bodied Slime!”

“Got it!”

“Terror Eagle!”

“It’s hard to find but fortunately, we found one”

No matter what kind of Voidal Monsters the guard demanded, Amanir’s group always delivered.

Every ten to thirty minutes, they returned with exactly what he had asked for.

But the worst part wasn’t their efficiency—it was Amanir’s unwavering, pliant smile—as Rex handed over each carcass. Despite clearly being swindled and used, Amanir didn’t complain and kept fulfilling the guard’s request.

Moreover, even though they were being played—Amanir always handed the carcasses over first.

It was as if he blindly believed the guard would do the right thing.

Soon, it came to the point when the guard was becoming restless like the one-eyed guard.

He was starting to feel bad for using the group who genuinely only wanted to take refuge.

Other guards also began to approach them, noticing the piles of Voidal Monster carcasses that already turned into a small hill. In a couple of hours, a crowd has gathered—amused at the sight of Amanir and his group’s attempt to be accepted into the bubble.

Initially, it was entertainment for them.

However, soon, the crowd began to cheer for Amanir’s group.

Some even pressured the guard to let them in as if they also didn’t have the same authority to do that.

Just then, as the group brought another carcass yet again, the one-eyed guard stepped in.

He grabbed the guard’s shoulder, signaling for him to stop.

Realizing what he had done and seeing the faces of Amanir and his group who were now becoming more and more exhausted, the guard covered his face and cried dramatically, “Just get in here, why are you fine with this? You should’ve at least been angry at me”

“I know you’re honorable, Sir,” Amanir stepped inside and bowed slightly.

Seeing the wounds they suffered from the hunt—the guard quickly turned his face away.

He couldn’t bear to see their condition.

Sighing lightly, the one-eyed guard then stepped over to them, “Look—we shouldn’t be accepting anyone into the fortress. Only those with referrals could get inside. But we’re willing to make an exception as long as all of you promise not to cause trouble, and it’s not permanent”

“Don’t worry, we promise—We want nothing more than rest for a bit,” Amanir nodded.

Patting Amanir on his back, the one-eyed guard gestured for them to follow him.

From behind, Rex and Linthia exchanged a look.

Neither of them could believe Amanir’s plan had actually worked smoothly—initially when they first heard it, they thought it was downright stupid. But with the Black Rift looming over them, forcing all Spirits to survive under these grim conditions, they found themselves growing more sympathetic toward one another.

Stranded inside the Black Rift, that could move the heart of any spirit.

Something like that could happen to anyone at any time.

Upon entering the bubble, Rex and the others were greeted by an unexpected sight.

From outside, other than the guards who were really close to the edge of the bubble, Rex and the others couldn’t see anything more. In fact, the guards probably wore something to make them visible from the outside as a warning for Voidal Monsters or intruders.

Now, once they were inside, they were greeted by a lush forest.

Rex and the others were guided on horseback by several guards along with the one-eyed guard.

Along the way, Amanir made small talk to know more about the Aurelian Fortress.

Based on the one-eyed guard, the Aurelian Fortress was separated into three parts—the outermost part was this forest called Nature’s Shield, the second part was a man-made sea called the Dangerous Deep, and then lastly the Aurelian Fortress itself.

Since it was governed by one of the Orion Eight, Rex and the others weren’t surprised at the security.

It took more than ten minutes of riding a spirit horse to reach the end of the forest, a beach.

Rex climbed down from the horse and gazed ahead in awe.

In front of him was the Dangerous Deep, rippling with waves and currents as if it were an actual sea.

Seeing a couple of rafts crossing the sea, there must also be spirit animals living in it.

But what pulled Rex’s attention the most was the city on the sea ahead, the Aurelian Fortress itself—a massive city that could easily host a couple million lives. Robust and tall walls protected the entire city and at each corner, there was a watchtower.

Rex could feel the imminent danger coming from each watchtower.

It felt as if a sniper had him in their sights, ready to pull the trigger at the slightest suspicious move.

Even though nothing about this made sense—like how could it look so natural? How could spirit fishes thrive in a man-made sea? Yet—Rex had no choice but to accept it. The Spirit Realm, it seemed, held far more mysteries than just Spirits and Voidal Monsters.

“All of you can rest here,” the one-eyed guard said. “The people here will take care of you”

He pointed to the other end of the beach where a small village was located.

“There are at least fifteen villages across the entire land—and to my personal bias, the people in this village are the nicest to foreigners as they are the native inhabitants of this place. Let me talk to them and have them prepare accommodation for you a couple of days,” the one-eyed guard continued and headed for the village.

Once he was away, Rex went to Amanir and whispered, “We can’t get inside?”

“Seems like it,” Amanir shrugged. “Do you think it’ll be that easy? Of course, not”

Rex frowned, there was no point in staying here if he couldn’t meet with anyone from the Orion Eight and strike a deal with them. But since he was here already, he wasn’t prepared to give up yet, there must be a way to make contact with the Orion Eight.

Pivoting to Linthia, he cast a meaningful look.

Noticing what he meant from that gaze, Linthia turned to the guard who gave her horseback, “It is my first time in such a wonderful place. Good Sir, can you show me around and get some fresh air while we wait?”

“Of course,” the guard nodded, reaching his hand to help Linthia climb on again.

Before Linthia and the guard left, she gave a nod to Rex.

She would be the one to scout the entire place to see whether there was any way for them to make direct contact with the Eight Orion house governing the fortress. Although it was unlikely, learning more about the place is a must in this situation.

Moments later.

Just as the one-eyed guard explained, the people of this village are kind and welcoming.

Knowing they were stranded in the Black Rift, the people treated them with exceptional care.

“You can use this place,” A skinny man with bronze skin said as he walked into a medium-sized hut. “It belongs to one of our elderly and he passed a couple of years ago. Since he has no family, nobody uses this hut. Is it okay?”

“Of course, what made you think it’s not okay?” Amanir asked back jokingly.

Hearing this, the skinny man, Javier leaned close and whispered, “You’re not afraid of ghosts?”

“Ghosts…?” Amanir’s expression froze. “Are there really ghosts here?”

“I heard rumors that the old man who lived here—once practiced dark rituals,” Javier whispered, a shiver running down his spine. “Some even claim a red glow sometimes emanated from this hut. Many said that even in death, the products of his rituals still remain”

“R-Really?” Amanir stuttered as his complexion turned paler by the second.

He rubbed his body with his ears to ward off the inexplicable chill.

Even from the moment he entered the hut, he could already feel the eerie, choking coldness.

It must be because of the ghosts living in this hut.

“Oh?” Javier raised a hand, noticing the change in temperature. “It’s suddenly warmer now”

“Is this our place?” Rex abruptly came inside, causing the two to flinch in surprise.

Glancing around the rundown interior, equipped only with the necessities such as a bed, a fireplace, a couple of chairs, and tables—Rex nodded his head, “It’s a lot better than I thought for a beach hut. We can work with this, thank you”

Hearing this, Javier bowed politely, “Of course, we’re not that competitive like other villages”

“I’ll leave you guys to settle down,” He added before leaving the hut.

On the other hand, Rex looked at Javier’s leaving back with a frown, “Competitive?”

An hour later, Rex and Amanir were now sitting near the bonfire on the beach—enjoying a freshly fried spirit mackerel that the people forced them to eat. Rex already scanned the mackerel and it was nothing bad for them.

It seemed the people were really sympathetic to them.

Now that it was nearing night, Rex noticed that the Aurelian Fortress was surrounded by a water tornado.

From the System’s scan, the water tornado is a protective layer that came from some sort of artifact.

During the day, it became invisible but active nonetheless.

“Say, I’ve been wondering about something,” Rex murmured, turning to Amanir, who was still stuffing another spirit mackerel into his mouth. “I came to this realm from the Mortal Realm, and even the Dark Elf Origin has been here before. How do Spirits view us—those from the Mortal Realm? Are they like… view us as lesser beings?”

Recalling how it has always been like that in the Mortal Realm, it was the one thing Rex anticipated.

If that was the case then things could get complicated.

Even though it would be a substantial boost in power if he got underestimated—and could destroy his enemies as he did with the Arcalen House—he couldn’t deny the fact that it was dangerous. He doesn’t want to take such a huge risk if he doesn’t have to.

So if the Spirits viewed him as lesser, that could be a problem.

“The Spirit Realm is a higher plane than the Mortal Realm—we’re stronger than you,” Amanir replied bluntly, not mincing his words. “I get why you’d think that way considering the people you faced. But crossing between realms isn’t something many can do, especially lasting more than ten days like you. As opposed to looking down, they’ll be very wary of you instead”

Rex was a little bit surprised by this.

Seems like the superiority complex in the Spirit Realm is way lesser than in the Mortal Realm.

He was thinking about this since he would be talking with the Orion Eight soon enough.

It would be best for him to know what’s on their mind about him.

Demeanor, the way one brings themselves in a negotiation is very important—If the other party is looking down then it’s best to look threatening but if the other party is already wary then it’s best to look peaceful.

Now that Rex knew about this, it seemed the latter would be the way to go.

Wary of me, huh…? It’s perfect for my situation. I only wanted them to nominate me and also help me find special Voidal Knights to obtain more Life Gems. Meeting the person in charge might not be the best idea for now, I should talk with someone who is near the top.

Just as Rex was about to ask Amanir about that, Linthia and Kraken came from their sightseeing.

Rex stood up and turned towards her, “How was it? What did you find?”

“I managed to find out a lot, actually…” Linthia replied as she gave Kraken to Amanir. “Not only about the landscape but also about the social construct between the Aurelian Fortress and these villages. You really have to hear this,”

Upon hearing this, Rex frowned.

He recalled the word Javier used earlier, ‘competitive’, so there must be something going on.

“Let’s go back to the hut and talk about this,”
