The process of inscribing runes was a bit tedious, especially so on the body of another individual.
On one’s own body they could be inscribed with their own mana, by giving a sort of solid shape to their mana and engraving it onto their skin, or sometimes even other parts of their bodies, like the eyes.
However, engraving runes on the body of another was a tedious process, One had to acquire special materials to make into ink, or inscribe them through other means.
The most common of which, was using blood. The blood of the individual could be used to transcribe runes on their own body, however, it had some downsides.
“This was first developed by the orcs, I don’t know how, the book just said an orc shaman was fooling around with the blood of his enemies and managed to make a rune.”
“Why do we need a history lesson?”
“Because it helps me focus?”
Runes, along with assisting in spells could also be inscribed on many things, inanimate or not to provide certain, special effects. The perfect example was the one Azmakul inscribed on Sabrina, the rune to enhance emotions. There were two classifications of runes, and three types of them.
Support runes, Runes whose abilities were related to defense, and other miscellaneous effects that would be the wearer. They could be magic shields, aura shields, buffs, enhancements on gear, anything along those lines.
Offensive runes were attack spells, special abilities given runic form. They had the unique ability instant casting, however, most of them were only single use, or would take a large amount of time to charge up after each use.
And the third were special runes, a category that was still a bit of a mystery, these, while having similarities with the above-mentioned types, were not exactly in the same category. A perfect example was the rune that brought life to one’s emotions. However, it was considered a low rank special rune.
They were a mystery, and also one of the few that could be used with both aura and mana, while no rune existed that made a perfect harmony of those two energies, runes were something that were not limited to any one energy. The very first rune-masters were aura users, but mages had made their own as well.
Sabrina was busy inscribing runes on everybody else as well, they were defensive type runes. She had never tried doing this on someone else, actually… It was her first time.
During the time she had spent memorizing and learning about sorcery, runic sorcery was something that really piqued her interest, it was also a time-consumer, she had engraved a lot of runes on her own body, but doing it on someone else was a great lesson.
She wasn’t a rune-master, not at all, but she was adequate for something like this. Her runes were better than most novice rune-inscribers, Azmakul had said that himself.
[Sai Laka], a defense type rune, one of the common ones that was on the difficult side. It was more powerful than a standard defense rune, but had the flaw of being incredibly difficult to inscribe, because it was a mixture of many defensive runes.
It had the ability to negate the damage of at most, five elements of the engravers choice, while it had the flaw of being only to provide resistance to one element at a time, however, it had one special function that made Sabrina choose it over other, easier runes.
It could stack, it was the type of rune that could stack defense, instead of inputting five different elements, one could only one, and watch the effects quintuple. The rune consisted of a hexagram with circles within, each circle held circuits connected to the symbol of the element one wanted resistance against…
Sabrina’s version was filled only with lightning, she really could not afford to make a mistake, or else each rune would end in failure and a pretty bad thing for both her and whoever she was engraving it on.
While she may remember it perfectly, it still took some time, thankfully, she had an excellent material on hand.
The blood of a dragon, who really had no choice in the matter. Alan could not refuse even if he wanted too. Thankfully, because the quality of his blood was so, so pure and great, the backlash from failing to inscribe a rune was relatively harmless. She had also mixed in some of Festul’s blood. Though she had originally wanted to use only the blood of the wolf, he was not so easy to convince.
She was inscribing it on the backs of the members, a larger surface made it easier for her to do her job, It was fairly easy doing it on Olivia and Edward, who had no such… obstructions.
They were the easy ones, and just as she was finished with them did she realize the hurdle in front of her.
Unfortunately for her, Both Alexander and Kazikato were eager to get the rune… but it was not so easy to do it. Because there was no empty space on their backs for her to do her job.
For Alexander, he had a wolf dancing with lightning on his back, The bloodline mark of the Monarch of Storms, and Kazikato had the mark of a dragon of bones, dancing with shadows, holding a scythe and an orb in each hand.
“…”
“…”
“…”
She let out a sigh, and while she had the opportunity and desire to curse, held it in when she looked at their expectant faces. She opted to do the rune on their shoulders and some part of their chests, wherever she found some space.
That was incredibly difficult, and she failed quite a few times as well, after all, every drop, every single part of the rune needed an exact amount of mana, different from all the rest.
She was great at controlling mana, but not that great. Her entire body was covered in sweat, but she had managed to do it, reducing the size by more than half and keeping the same effects…
But the biggest hurdle would not be Alexander or Kazikato, but Alan…
