Chapter 2012: Mass Fiend ansformation
A day later.
White Raven Island. Labh Salem.
The morning sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden hue over the vast open field on White Raven Island.
A gentle sea breeze moved through the trees at the edges of the ground, but the center was still and quiet.
Rows upon rows of witches and warlocks stood in a perfectly arranged formation. They wore dark robes and gear suited for battle, their expressions calm and focused.
Eren followed Ivor and Hettie down a small hill that led to the field. As they reached the top, Eren stopped in his tracks, taking in the sight before him.
The sheer number of people standing together in order was kinda intimidating because of its discipline. It reminded him of the military formations he'd seen from the kingdom of Edinburgh back in Anfang.
He turned to Ivor with a raised eyebrow.
"I didn't think the coven members would act like a kingdom's army," Eren said.
Ivor chuckled and folded his arms behind his back.
"That's because the Order of the Root was an army once," he explained. "Centuries ago, it was founded by survivors of a lost witch kingdom from the Epas continent. Those founders were generals, tacticians, warriors. The discipline you see here comes from them. We follow their ways to this day."
Eren blinked at the name. Epas? That rang a bell.
Isn't that the continent Alephee was on a few years back? he thought to himself.
I wonder if she's done with whatever she was doing there…
Eren had been to many places in Labh Salem ever since he stepped foot in this world. However, its sheer size was just too massive. Epas was located in another part of the world, which wasn't easily accessible.
The butcher let the thought slip to the back of his mind and took a few steps forward.
His gaze scanned the field. The lines were clean. The witches and warlocks stood still, breathing as one unit. He could feel their attention centered on him.
Eren activated his WindFire Wings. Flames and wind burst from his back as he lifted into the air, hovering a few dozen feet above the formation.
"Listen up!" he shouted, his voice echoing over the open field. "Team captains, stay in your position! The rest of you, fall back!"
The moment he finished speaking, the ground shifted with movement. Thousands of coven members took a step back in near-perfect unison and began to retreat, leaving only a few figures standing in each column. Twenty captains remained in front of him, all of them A-Ranked witches and warlocks.
They looked up at him.
Eren landed gently in front of them. He stood with his hands behind his back, observing their faces one by one. Some were stern, some calm, and some… curious.
But he also caught something else in their eyes—doubt. Not open or loud, but quietly there.
He understood why. He was just an A-Rank. A Grand Knight. The same rank as them.
These captains were Arcane Sorceresses and Arcane Sorcerers, powerful in their own right. Trained leaders, each in command of a hundred or so members. And now, they were supposed to listen to a man who was technically no stronger than them in Rank?
Even with his title as the Elder Ichor's chosen, even with his fame, even with all the whispers about him, the reality of him still being an A-Rank made them hesitate in their hearts.
Since they had just arrived and were isolated from the White Raven islanders, they were yet to hear about Eren's feat of killing an Immortal. Even Ivor, Hettie or any of their superiors hadn't told them what they were doing there.
They expected someone far above them, Eren thought. A Kaiser, maybe even beyond that.
He said nothing about it. He knew this moment was just the beginning. Their doubt was expected. But soon enough, he'd show them why Rank alone didn't define strength. Why he was the one they would choose to follow in the storm ahead.
He stood in front of them with a calm look on his face.
The wind carried his coat slightly as the captains waited, saying nothing.
They were disciplined. That's all he wanted.
He took one more look at their faces before breaking the silence.
"I'll get to the point," Eren said, his voice steady. "Your coven has already pledged its alliance with me. With the right conditions met, you might become my direct subordinates. As such, I'm giving you a chance to go one step further. I'm offering to turn you into fiends."
The words dropped like stones in a still pond.
Eren waited a moment before continuing, letting the silence settle.
"This process is not something I take lightly. Once done, it cannot be reversed. You won't be able to return to your original path. Some of your Skills may become useless, especially when you enter the Mesh. In fact, there's even a chance your entire Skill Tree linked to the witch goddess you follow might be shut off completely."
Some of the captains stiffened at that. Their belief in their deity was old and deep. To risk losing that connection wasn't something they could take lightly.
"But," Eren said, lifting a hand, "there's a tradeoff."
He looked at each of them as he spoke.
"Becoming a fiend gives you a stronger body and an even stronger soul. And if your goddess's Skill Tree is disabled, I will allow you to access the Elder Ichor Skill Tree. It doesn't have many Skills, but each one is powerful. They're flexible and hit harder than anything you've used before. It's not a loss—it's a new path."
Eren could turn almost anyone into fiends at his will in the past. However, turning so many at them at the same time carried some risks. Especially when the passive effects of his Greater Skills were at play.
He could control the passive effects when transforming a single entity into a fiend. But he wasn't sure how things would go if he decided to transform 20 A-Ranked mana practitioners of different paths into fiends at the same time. As such, he was giving some instructions as a failsafe measure to ensure the transformation was done smoothly for everyone.
The witches and warlocks exchanged glances, their expressions slowly changing from concern to interest.
Eren nodded, knowing he had to be clear about the risks too.
"There's one more thing. During the transformation, you'll need to hold on to your sanity for the first ten minutes or so. To be honest, my demonic powers are growing at exponential levels these days and it's not that easy for me to control them.
That's the danger for you all. If you fail… the process will break you. But if you survive, you'll come out stronger than ever."
He watched their reactions. Some looked nervous, but others had a spark in their eyes. That spark of hunger. Of ambition.
Their eyes all turned to Hettie, who stood nearby with a smirk playing on her lips.
"That's right," she said, stepping forward. "It was my liege who turned me into a fiend. Not one of the Demon Princes. He is the true boss of those seven demonic overloards. The Young Demon Emperor himself."
She opened her arms slowly, showing herself to them.
"You've seen what I can do. My powers are sharper and stronger than before. I don't miss my connection to the witch goddess at all. Elder Ichor's Skill Tree is more than enough. Trust me when I say this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance."
Eren nodded.
"But," he added, his voice turning serious.
"Understand this—once you're turned into a fiend by me, betrayal won't be an option. My power will bind you. It's like signing an exclusive Faustian contract. You can choose to stay with the Root or be merged into my demon army. That choice is yours. But if any of you are unsure of staying on my side… now is the time to walk away."
Since the process was like a Faustian Contract, Eren could choose to hide a few things but not lie directly. The soul-related processes only worked when someone like him was honest about changing the foundation of the souls.
He looked around the circle, giving each of them time to speak up.
But no one did.
Instead, one by one, their eyes lit up with a glow of eagerness. The tension faded, replaced by resolve.
Then they all turned back to Eren who then let out a slow breath.
"Very well," he said. "Then prepare yourselves."
Eren then raised his arms slowly and took a deep breath. Then, without a word, he activated all seven Sin Series Domains at once.
The change was immediate.
A heavy pressure fell over the field like a dark blanket, pressing down on everyone's bodies and minds.
A strange reddish-black mist began to seep from the ground, mixing with the air around them. The ground trembled lightly underfoot, as if the earth itself was resisting what was being summoned.
Eren's demonic powers indeed had reached new heights than before. It was as if killing an Immortal had nourished his demonic heritage, allowing him to gain greater access to the Elder Ichor's divine might.
From Eren, seven overlapping circles of demonic energy spread outward in waves.
Each circle gave off a different kind of pressure—each carrying its own flavor of sin.
