Vile Evil Hides Under The Veil

Wrath. Greed. Pride. Lust. Envy. Gluttony. Sloth.
All at once.
The captains were thrown into a perfect storm of demonic energies almost immediately.
It was important to note that the feelings of pride, anger, and the other five demonic emotions linked to their respective Sin Series Domains weren't the only emotions being induced in the hearts of the Root captains at this point.
There were other emotions as well—born from the fusion of two or more Sin Series emotions taking root at the same time.
Earlier, Eren's demonic powers lacked a certain depth. Because of this, the emotions he could control and induce in others were limited to the seven main kinds tied to the Sin Series Domains.
But after killing a god and nourishing his divinity with the slain Immortal's death, Eren had gained a deeper understanding of his demonic heritage.
It was thanks to this breakthrough that he could now trigger a fiendish transformation for the Root captains on a scale he had never achieved before.
The results of Eren's newfound control were already apparent to Ivor and Hettie. The two watched in silence and fascination as they saw their fellow captains begin to turn fiendish.
One of the witches clutched at her chest, her breathing ragged. A warlock dropped to his knees, fists clenched, veins bulging. Another screamed and tried to scratch at his own skin, his eyes wide with madness.
Some were struck by uncontrollable rage and roared, swinging their fists in the air. Others sank to the ground, tears streaming down their faces, consumed by failure and pride twisted into shame.
They were being drowned in emotions they couldn't fully control.
Their mana cores twisted violently within them. Their souls trembled as sin mana invaded, corrupting and reshaping their very essence.
It was more intense than anything Hettie had experienced before.
Eren stood still with his eyes shut. His body was calm, but inside, he was under intense pressure.
He wasn't just using one or two Greater Skills. He was holding all seven at the same time. With the increase in his demonic might, the pressure exerted by his heritage on his soul had also multiplied many times over.
Eren felt as if his heart were bound by infernal chains, each one pulling from a different direction. Seven chains, all trying to yank his heart out of his chest.
Each Domain was a beast of its own, pushing against its boundaries, trying to spread, to break free, to infect more than it should. And Eren was the cage holding them back.
His mind was sharp and focused like a blade. His hands trembled slightly. Sweat rolled down his face.
Ivor and Hettie began to hear demonic whispers in the air around them. Even someone like them found the atmosphere heavy and suffocating—despite not being in direct contact with Eren's Sin Series Domains.
"I think we should step back a little," Hettie said to Ivor as she moved away. Ivor nodded and followed her lead without a word.
Meanwhile, Eren was gaining new insights into his growing demonic power. He could feel himself affecting the souls of the Root captains directly. It was as if he were reshaping their very essence—as though he were rewriting a spiritual blueprint.
Eren knew that a human—or human-like—sentient soul was an Existential Concept. He couldn't create new Existential Concepts from scratch yet. But his demonic heritage allowed him to modify the existing ones to a limited degree.
The sin mana wanted to twist everything. It tried to pull him in as well, whispering promises and lies to all who could hear it.
Minutes passed like hours.
The captains screamed. They fought themselves. They clutched their heads and came dangerously close to madness.
But not a single one ran. Not a single one gave in completely.
Ten long minutes passed.
Eren took a deep breath and opened his eyes, the faint glow in them dimming as the seven Sin Series Domains slowly retracted.
He looked at the 20 Root captains in front of him—sweaty, shaken, but standing. Each of them had been tested beyond what most A-Ranked entities could ever handle. And yet, they endured.
"The difficult phase has passed," Eren said, his voice steady and clear. "None of you will die or lose control of yourselves from this point on."
The captains let out shaky breaths. Some leaned forward with hands on their knees. Others just stood there, their eyes wide, trying to process everything.
"But listen closely," Eren continued.
"The fiend transformation is not complete yet. You've only survived the initiation. To truly become what you were meant to be, you must integrate the Sin Series mana into your body and soul. Otherwise, you'll remain half-baked. Unfinished. Weak."
He paused for a moment, letting his words sink in. Then he stepped forward slowly, speaking with purpose.
"There's a difference between divine and demonic intent-based magic," he said. "The divine asks you to suppress your emotions. To chain them. To draw power from discipline and clarity."
He made a fist and raised it slightly.
"But demonic intent asks you to do the opposite. You have to feel your emotions—deeply. Fully. You must dive into them, even if they scare you. And from that chaos, you pull out the purest kind of power."
The Root captains were listening closely now, their expressions tense but thoughtful.
"Divine and demonic magic," Eren went on, "are two extremes of the same stick. Two ways of finding the truth in intent-based power. What I'm trying to say is simple—if you want to control your demonic powers, you must learn to lose yourself in the madness.
Feel the rage, the greed, the envy, the pride… but also stay aware. Hold on to that part of yourself that refuses to drown. The divine and demonic ends complement each other. So whenever you feel like you are getting consumed by your pride, start to consciously harness humility."
He smiled faintly. He remembered his night with the twin dragons for some reason before he spoke.
"It's like letting yourself get buzzed from a drink… while still having the strength to snap out of it the moment you need to. That's how you stay in control. That's how you bend the chaos to your will."
The captains looked at each other in silence.
They were seeing Eren in a different light now. He really was someone who had walked deeper into this demonic path than any of them. And he hadn't turned into a mindless demonic Ranker despite possessing the ultimate demonic heritage.
The captains closed their eyes and followed his advice. They began to focus, letting the demonic emotions rise within them.
Some snarled as wrath surged through them. Others smiled cruelly as envy curled inside. A few shuddered under the weight of gluttony, lust, or greed. But none of them backed down.
Their bodies began to change.
Some grew taller. Horns began to sprout from their foreheads. Others developed patches of scales or hardened skin along their limbs and backs.
A few grew extra arms or tails. Their skin took on different tones—gray, crimson, deep blue, ash black—each unique in its own twisted way.
The transformation was not uniform. Each captain's form reflected the demonic emotion they had embraced most. Their mana signatures started changing as well.
Their bodies started to get strengthened to new levels they thought was never possible for their current Rank.
And yet, none of them lost themselves.
From the sidelines, Ivor and Hettie watched in silence. Ivor folded his arms, nodding slowly, impressed. Hettie had a small smirk on her face, satisfied to see others joining her ranks as true fiends.
Everything was going smoothly. But suddenly, the butcher noticed something strange.
The demonic mana around one of the captains began to stir unnaturally. It twisted and thickened, vibrating with energy. Eren narrowed his eyes.
A sharp pulse of demonic mana erupted from the captain's mana core. Usually, the mana core would get dissolved in a field transformation. However, this time all the 20 Root captains had their mana cores intact. And these mana cores were also going through some kind of transformation.
Then another Root captain followed from someone else. Soon, multiple pulses began to rise from different locations within the formation. The skies above began to darken.
Eren's eyes widened.
"What the...?"
He looked around quickly and realized what was happening. They weren't just transforming into fiends. They were triggering their S-Rank breakthroughs.
All of them. At once.
A loud boom echoed across the open field as thick clouds gathered above the island. Lightning crackled through the sky like serpents ready to strike.
"Shit," Eren muttered under his breath. He turned toward Ivor and Hettie.
"Get them out of here. Now!"
Ivor blinked. "What?"
Eren didn't waste time explaining.
"Separate them. All 20. If they go through their S-Rank Calamities this close together, it'll destroy half the island! Move!"
Hettie snapped to attention. "Understood!"
She whistled sharply, and within seconds, Root members stationed nearby came flying in. Ivor quickly gave orders, pointing at each captain and assigning their locations.
"Take each of them to a different zone," he barked. "No overlap. Get at least 10 miles between each of them—minimum!"
