Vile Evil Hides Under The Veil
Chapter 2014: Power to Create New Demonic BloodlinesChapter 2014: Power to Create New Demonic Bloodlines
The Root witches and warlocks responded swiftly.
They helped the captains who were unstable and trembling from the pressure of their incoming Calamities rise into the sky.
Eren also took off using his WindFire Wings, overseeing the operation personally.
He followed them into the air, spreading his awareness across the region as he watched the 20 captains being flown away in different directions—some north, some over the sea, others deep into the surrounding marine forest islands.
A few minutes passed.
Then the heavens roared.
The skies above each location twisted into storm clouds.
Bolts of lightning shot down from the clouds—one per captain—slamming into the ground with explosive force. The shockwaves rolled like thunder across the land.
From his vantage point in the sky, Eren could see 20 storms lighting up the horizon in all directions. His clothes fluttered behind him, his eyes flickering with curiosity.
"They really triggered it… all of them," he muttered.
He had wanted to push them to understand their powers. But he didn't expect all 20 to reach the threshold for S-Rank in one go.
The intensity of the fiend transformation combined with Eren's guidance related to the use of the demonic powers had pushed them over the edge. The White Raven Island had very come to newfound destruction and ruin because of this incident once again.
Still, this was good. Risky, but good.
Eren smirked faintly, watching the flashes of lightning in the distance.
"If you survive this," he said to himself, "you won't just be captains anymore. You'll be the first wave of S-Ranked fiends in my army."
A few minutes passed.
Eren floated midair, his arms crossed as his gaze swept across the vast horizon. The skies above Labh Salem had turned into a battlefield of nature itself.
Thunderclouds rolled and cracked with fury, and bolts of lightning tore through the skies, slamming into the isolated locations where the Root captains faced their S-Rank Calamities.
He said nothing. His eyes followed each bolt of lightning with quiet focus. Even though the wind howled and the ground shook in the distance, Eren's figure remained still, suspended by the steady flapping of his WindFire Wings.
Swoosh. Zoom. Still.
A sudden whoosh of air brushed past him. He glanced slightly over his shoulder.
Marina and Azurea hovered behind him, their dragon wings stretched wide, the moonlight bouncing off the scales lining their arms and legs. Both had taken their dragonoid forms, their mana cloaks swirling softly in the high-altitude air.
Marina looked around, her eyes widening as she counted the number of lightning strikes across the distance.
"What in the world… Eren, what's happening?" she asked, her voice filled with awe and concern. "Did you… cause this?"
Azurea didn't say anything at first, her golden eyes locked on one of the Calamity sites. The glowing clouds above each location made it feel like the wrath of the world itself had descended. Her usual carefree expression was gone, replaced by quiet unease.
Azurea had seen the S-Rank Calamities before. She herself had passed her own Calamity trial. But the trials endured by the Root witches and warlocks at this point looked more intense and harmful than her own trial.
This was because this was not a normal trial. Eren's fiend transformation had changed the very existential template of the Root members, turning them into fiends of different sub-races.
As such, these trials not only tested the mana practitioner for their ability to break into the S-Rank but also the new forms of Existential Concepts introduced by Eren as brand new templates and their variants.
The Root members needed to validate their new existences through the trial. If they failed, they would not be able to maintain their corporal forms after being rejected by Labh Salem's World Will.
Only death awaited them if they could not barge into Labh Salem's existing "food chain" as one of the participants. On the other hand, if they succeeded, they would be treated as the first ancestors of their demonic lineage.
This was the power of the Elder Ichor's divine throne. It enabled its true inheritor to create new and powerful demonic bloodlines and clans. This kind of power could also be wielded by the Demon Princes, technically speaking. However, it truly shined when someone like Eren made use of it.
"Labh Salem's World Will… it's angry," Azurea muttered. "It feels like we're being punished for disturbing Raashim's peace."
Eren chuckled softly, the sound low and unfazed. It was hard to explain a few things to Azurea.
"Relax. Nothing's wrong," he said, still looking ahead. "These aren't punishments. These are milestones."
He turned slightly toward them and smirked.
"You're looking at the birth of the first generation of S-Ranked fiends under my command. Kekeke. 20 S-Rank elites if things go well. I guess, the upcoming Witches Sabbath would not be a total pandemonium for the White Raven Island.
We'd at least be able to protect our interests in the sea to a larger extent. Now… if just all of them can make it back here alive… that'd be great."
Both sisters blinked, surprised.
"You did this… on purpose?" Marina asked.
Eren replied. "Not really. I saw it as a distant possibility even though I didn't plan it. In any case, I just didn't think it would all happen at once."
For nearly half an hour, the three of them watched in silence. The storms began to settle one by one. The violent roars of thunder slowly faded, and the skies began to clear as the Calamity trials ended across Labh Salem.
Eren raised a hand and summoned his Spectral Screen. A web of glowing symbols and lines flickered in front of him as he contacted the Root witches and warlocks assigned to each location.
Messages came in swiftly. One after another. Updates, mana pulses, confirmations.
"Eighteen… made it through safely," he said, exhaling a breath of relief.
But then, his gaze darkened.
"Two are in critical condition."
Without waiting, Eren turned sharply to the left, his wings flaring out. His body shot forward like a comet, cutting through the wind.
Marina and Azurea immediately followed, not asking questions this time.
They didn't need to.
Something had gone wrong—and they knew Eren wouldn't let anyone fall under his banner without a fight. Not because he cared for them but because doing so would be wasteful of his invested resources.
