Collapse. Ellena seemed to no longer have any power. Her legs felt too weak to support her body. She cried even more when realized that her mother-in-law was also sobbing in front of the operating room while waiting for Lucas.
Veronica's feelings must be the same as Ellena's right now. Of course, it is not easy for them to face this harsh reality. Lucas was a part of their breath. If something bad happened to the man, I don't know what would happen to the two of them.
"Mommy, Daddy." Ellena hissed with tears streaming down her cheeks, distracting Veronica and Albert.
"Elle."
Veronica and Albert turned their heads, when they heard someone's call and the sound of sobbing. Even Adley and Alex who had been there a few minutes ago also turned their attention to Ellena.
However, Ellena was no longer able to hold back her tears. She cried even more when Lucas' parents were there.
'God, why did Lucas have to go through all this? Why can't I just be in the room over there, why?' muttered Ellena in the midst of her sobs.
"Elle, wake up!"
Albert immediately approached and lifted Ellena's body to stand. However, Ellena was too weak to make it difficult for her to lift her daughter-in-law's body.
Feeling unbearable to see Ellena's current condition. Adley also helped Albert to lift Ellena's body.
"Elle, wake up!" said Adley as he raised Ellena's hand.
"How is Lucas doing now, Dad?" asked Ellena, haltingly.
"Get up first, we'll wait for news from the doctor," said Albert, lifting Ellena's left arm.
Thanks to Adley and Albert's help, Ellena was finally able to stand up. They led Ellena, walked over to Veronica who was sitting on the waiting chair.
"Mo-Mommy." Ellena whispered with the tears flowing so profusely.
Veronica, who had been staring sadly at her daughter-in-law's face, swiftly embraced Ellena's body. Shed all her sorrows. Sharing the tears and wounds with her daughter-in-law who a few days ago she actually suspected.
However, through those tears, they tried to comfort and strengthen each other. This was evident from the way Veronica gently stroked Ellena's back, and vice versa.
Yes, Ellena didn't even think that the mother-in-law would act like that, at a time like this. Whereas previously she felt that there was a change in attitude from Veronica that was shown to her. However, what happened at this time, was enough to answer her worries for a few days. At this moment he was sure that her mother-in-law really cared about her.
"Mommy, I'm sorry for not being able to take care of Lucas." Ellena whispered amidst sobs in Veronica's arms.
"Elle, what actually happened to you guys. Why did Lucas become like that?" Veronica asked after stretching their bodies.
"I don't know, Mommy. Suddenly Lucas swerved and hit a power pole. I think the car brakes failed, but I'm still not sure because Lucas didn't say anything before the accident happened. She just looked panicked at the time." Ellena explained. still crying.
Again she had to recall the incident. Ah, she really couldn't imagine it. It was too scary, and painful for her at the same time.
"How did the brakes suddenly fail, Elle?" Veronica looked at Ellena probingly. Even Albert, Adley and Alex had the same expression.
"I don't know, Mom. Even though when we left, the car Lucas was driving was still fine." Ellena replied, holding Veronica's hands. "Mommy, I'm sorry. If only I could ask God, just let me experience what Lucas is going through right now. I don't know what to do now." She added while putting on a sorry expression.
Hearing that, Veronica embraced Ellena's body again. "Don't say that, Elle. It's destiny from God. What we have to do now is pray for Lucas' recovery. Hopefully the operation goes well." Veronica replied while stroking the top of Ellena's head.
"Elle, wasn't there anything else suspicious before the accident?"
Albert's question instantly made Ellena and Veronica stretch their bodies again. It seemed the middle-aged man was starting to suspect something.
"No, Dad," replied Ellena, slightly stunned looking at Albert. "Lucas seems fine too, didn't say anything. However, the accident started when a car overtook ours, Dad." She added.
Ellena also recounted the beginning of the incident, according to what is still in her memory, because honestly her memory is still vague, especially when the last seconds of the accident occurred.
"Sir, it seems we have to investigate this case immediately. I feel there is something odd about what happened to them." Adley suggested.
"Yes, you're right Adley. I won't let anyone who was intent on harming Lucas, live freely out there. Either way we have to find someone who has bad intentions towards Lucas, if it's proven to be on purpose," Albert replied with a blank stare that was thrown in any direction, as if she was thinking about something.
"Good afternoon!"
Her baritone voice instantly made them turn their heads. There were two men in uniform, standing one meter from where they were. The two men then slowly walked towards them.
"Is it true with the Lucas family?" asked one of the uniformed men.
"That's right, Sir." Albert answered, looking seriously at the two men standing in front of him.
Albert had already guessed the purpose of the two men meeting him. Of course it has something to do with the accident that happened to his son. Looking at the name tag attached to the chest, he could tell that the two men were named Felix and Andrew.
"We are from the police. I have something important to convey to the family of Mr. Lucas Fidel, a victim of a traffic accident that occurred a few hours ago," explained one of the police officers named Felix.
"What is it, Sir?" asked Albert very enthusiastically with a questioning look.
"So, based on the results of our investigation. The accident that happened to Mr. Lucas and his family was very unnatural." Felix answered explaining and managed to make everyone there look surprised, including Ellena.
"What do you mean unnatural?" Adley swiftly responded to Felix's question. She was sure that his suspicions were not wrong.
"So, it turns out that the accident occurred because the car's brakes failed and we found a broken brake cable. We thought that someone had the intention of harming Mr. Lucas by deliberately cutting the brake cable." Felix explained without hiding anything.
Sure enough. It turned out that Albert and Adley's suspicions were not wrong. There was someone who had planned the accident to happen. Unlucky! However, they must immediately investigate this case next.
"Sir, please investigate this case thoroughly. Don't let the person who harmed Lucas live freely out there!" Albert asked the policeman with emphasis.
"Yes, of course, Sir. We will soon find out who the real culprit is," replied Felix, agreeing to Albert's request.
"Thank you, Sir," said Albert, forcing a smile.
"Okay, we'll excuse ourselves."
The two men in uniform walked past them.
"Daddy, I'm afraid Lucas is okay. What if that person still intends to harm Lucas?" said Ellena with a mouth that seemed to tremble.
"Yes, you're right Elle." Albert softly responded. "Alex, Adley, can you guys help me?" Albert looked at Alex and Adley in turn.
"Of course, Sir," they answered in unison.
"Please send some people to maintain security in this hospital, at Lucas's house too!" asked Albert emphatically.
"Okay, Sir," Adley answered quietly.
"Hm ... let me do it, Sir. I've memorized the people who became the trust of Mr. Lucas," said Alex later.
"Thank you, Alex." Albert replied with a smile, pleased with the positive response from Adley as well as Alex.
"Okay, looks like I have to finish my work tonight. I have to go see them soon. Can I say goodbye now?" asked Alex to make sure. It seemed he was intent on keeping his boss safe.
"Yes, of course, Alex. Please do what's best for Lucas," Albert replied.
As Alex left the place, suddenly the operating room door opened and shifted their focus. There was a doctor standing in the doorway still wearing a blue operating uniform.
It turned out that the red light above the door had gone out, indicating that the surgery was complete.
"Doc, how is my son's condition?"
Albert immediately approached the doctor with great enthusiasm. Even with Ellena and Veronica who immediately got up from their seats and approached the doctor.
"Doc, is my husband all right?" asked Ellena after she stood in front of the doctor with a worried expression.
Yes of course. Everyone there was worried about Lucas' current condition. Adley is no exception.
The doctor let out a short breath, before he responded to Albert and Ellena's question.
"Hm ... the operation went smoothly. We have also done our best for the patient to survive, but ...." The doctor hung his words for whatever reason confused him.
"But what, Doc?" they asked in unison.
Of course they were curious, as if there was something the doctor was hiding.
"Hm ... sorry in advance, but I have to say this. Maybe the patient will take a while to come back to her senses or maybe she could also be in a coma for a few days," explained the doctor which suddenly made them widen. Moreover, Ellena immediately covered her mouth because she was shocked.
"No, Doc! Lucas must be fine, right, Doc?" Ellena cried hysterically, unable to hear the doctor's explanation.. What if Lucas was really in a coma? Ah, she couldn't imagine, Swould miss Lucas so much.
