Chapter 928: Leader Of The Eldritch World (2)
There are around six thousand halls in the Myriad River Realm? Wu Yuan’s gaze swept across the vast void.
This meant that the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang branch had at least six thousand late-stage Sovereign powerhouses in their ranks. As for ordinary Sovereigns, their numbers were even greater. Based on Wu Yuan’s estimation as he flew over the city earlier, there were at least fifty thousand.
It sounded like a lot. However, if one considered the thousands of macrocosms under the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom’s rule, it averaged only about ten Sovereigns per macrocosm – not exactly that many.
After all, quite a few macrocosms were completely occupied by the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom. Without internal strife, a single macrocosm could produce nearly a hundred Sovereigns over long ages. These tens of thousands of Sovereigns were accumulated by the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom over billions of years.
“Wu Yuan, from today, you have the right to establish a hall here,” said Overlord Hou Jue.
“Me? Establish a hall here?” Wu Yuan was taken aback. “Isn’t that only for late-stage Sovereign powerhouses?”
“In theory, yes. But you’re different. As a Saintcrest Prodigy, you’re only granted an eighth-rank position due to the rules of the Eldritch Court headquarters,” Overlord Hou Jue smiled.
“Within the Saintdom, your authority is equivalent to a late-stage Sovereign, but you’re far more important than a late-stage Sovereign powerhouse. Only one in several hundred late-stage Sovereign powerhouses advance to the Overlord level.
“Besides your hall in the Eldritch Court Voidrealm, you’ll also have a residence in the core of the Saintdom in the real world, and a group of Astral Monarchs will be assigned to you as subordinates,” Overlord Hou Jue continued.
“Additionally, you have the right to participate in the Myriad River Conference, which is the highest-level meeting of the entire Saintdom, and attendees are mostly late-stage Sovereign powerhouses at least.”Wu Yuan held his breath as he listened.
His past self, though brilliant and highly valued, had never been fully acknowledged. But now, having claimed the title of Saintcrest Prodigy, everything had changed. The Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom treated him as a late-stage Sovereign powerhouse—no, as someone with an even higher status.
Wu Yuan never considered refusing. Late-stage Sovereign strength? Wu Yuan had confidence that he would soon have sufficient power to stand tall in the Myriad River Realm, earning the heartfelt respect of other Sovereigns in the Saintdom. Everything depended on strength.
“Wu Yuan, where would you like to build your hall?” Overlord Hou Jue asked, gesturing to the distant rivers.
“Where is Sovereign Cang Feng’s hall?” Wu Yuan inquired. “I’d like to build mine nearby.”
Among the six Sovereigns of the Cang Feng Eldritch World, only one was a late-stage Sovereign powerhouse. As a newcomer unfamiliar with other Sovereigns in the Saintdom, Wu Yuan naturally felt inclined to stay close to the powerhouses from the Cang Feng Eldritch World.
Sticking together for warmth was human nature. To establish himself in the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom, Wu Yuan first needed to establish himself in the Cang Feng Eldritch World.
“Very well, follow me,” Overlord Hou Jue led Wu Yuan towards an unremarkable river, beside which hovered a black hall.
“Use your authority to establish your hall,” Overlord Hou Jue smiled. “You can build a hall up to one hundred thousand li in length, width, and height, simply by willing it into existence. Just remember, once built, you won’t be able to modify it later.”
Wu Yuan nodded gently.
Each hall here was incredibly vast; calling them halls was an understatement—many were actually hall complexes.
“Rise,” Wu Yuan willed.
Instantly, the calm rivers grew turbulent, and countless rays of light rose from them, converging in the void before Wu Yuan.
A structure materialized out of thin air, surrounded by light, as a massive hall rapidly took shape and came into being in the void.
Rumble~ The powerful waves caused by the hall’s creation quickly swept in all directions, immediately catching the attention of many Astral Monarch disciples, servants, and guards in the surrounding halls.
“Someone’s establishing a hall in the Myriad River Realm?”
“Which Sovereign is that? He seems to be eighth-rank, a late-stage Sovereign powerhouse?”
“I don’t recognize him.”
“The one standing beside him looks like Overlord Hou Jue.”
“Has the Saintdom produced a new late-stage Sovereign powerhouse? I haven’t heard anything about this.” These onlookers could only gaze from afar, not daring to approach.
Given their status, they had to remain within their respective halls. The rules of the Myriad River Realm were strict, but Wu Yuan’s strength and status were too high, thus he didn’t notice.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Soon, figures emanating powerful auras appeared in the void, all late-stage Sovereign powerhouses. They were masters of the various halls in the Myriad River Realm, and also the real core of the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom. After receiving news from their subordinate disciples and servants, they swiftly came over to have a look.
Rapidly, dozens of late-stage Sovereign powerhouses approached.
“Overlord.”
“Overlord Hou Jue.” These Sovereigns bowed in greeting.
Overlord Hou Jue nodded slightly in response.
There was a clear gap between late-stage Sovereign powerhouses and Overlords in terms of strength, status, and many other aspects. But it was far less pronounced than the difference between Astral Monarchs and Sovereigns. After all, late-stage Sovereign powerhouses were unafraid of Overlords within their home macrocosms. This gave them sufficient confidence when facing one.
“Who is that?”
“I don’t recognize him, but he looks somewhat familiar.”
“He seems to be an eighth-rank member.” These late-stage Sovereign powerhouses watched as Wu Yuan finished establishing his hall.
The disturbance caused by the hall’s creation was gradually dissipating.
“Wu Yuan!” Suddenly, an excited voice rang out from nearby as a large man in black robes flew over. It was Sovereign Cang Feng.
“Sovereign Cang Feng,” Wu Yuan smiled in response.
“Haha, I can’t believe you’ve come to the Myriad River Realm. After hearing about you claiming a Saintcrest, I’ve been wanting to contact you, but feared disturbing you,” Sovereign Cang Feng laughed, beaming. He had a rather close relationship with Wu Yuan, and was naturally overjoyed and excited by Wu Yuan’s great achievement.
“Wu Yuan?”
“It’s him? That Saintcrest Prodigy?”
“No wonder Overlord Hou Jue is here.”
“So it’s him!” The other late-stage Sovereign powerhouses instantly realized who the young man in black robes was, their expressions changing.
Wu Yuan. In the past few days, Wu Yuan’s name had spread throughout the entire megaverse and even the Abyss.
The Sovereigns of the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom were especially familiar with Wu Yuan’s name. After all, he was the first Saintcrest Prodigy in the history of the Eldritch Court’s Ling Jiang Saintdom!
“But even if he’s a Saintcrest Prodigy, why is he allowed to establish a hall in the Myriad River Realm?”
“Even if he has a great hope of becoming an Overlord, he’s still just a High Eldritch right now.”
“What are the Overlords thinking?”
“A High Eldritch, given the same treatment as us?” Many late-stage Sovereign powerhouses instinctively felt a hint of dissatisfaction.
Being late-stage Sovereign powerhouses, they were either leaders of an eldritch world or prominent figures in the Saintdom, holding extraordinary statuses.
They would lower their heads before an Overlord. But mere so-called geniuses? Not all Saintcrest Prodigies became Overlords. And they themselves were only a step away from becoming Overlords, perhaps breaking through at any moment.
Moreover, the powerful were inherently prideful, believing in strength more than anything else. Therefore, these late-stage Sovereign powerhouses, though shocked by Wu Yuan’s achievements, did not truly believe that they were far inferior to Wu Yuan.
Of course, none of these late-stage Sovereign powerhouses dared to openly express such sentiments in front of Overlord Hou Jue.
“Impressive, Wu Yuan.”
“Haha, to claim a Saintcrest.”
“The number one genius of the Saintdom indeed.”
“I am Sovereign Jue Guang. Greetings, Daoist Wu Yuan.”
“I am Sovereign Gu Lei.” Though many late-stage Sovereign powerhouses felt displeased, just as many didn’t mind it and proactively greeted Wu Yuan, intending to foster goodwill.
Wu Yuan smiled and returned the greetings of the friendly Sovereigns one by one.
These late-stage Sovereign powerhouses were all considered prominent figures in their own right, and it was best to maintain good relations with them if possible.
“The order for Wu Yuan to establish a hall here was issued by the Eldritch Progenitor, the reason being that he claimed a Saintcrest, rendering a great contribution to our Eldritch Court,” Overlord Hou Jue’s gaze swept across the group of Sovereigns. “If any of you have objections or thoughts on this matter, you may appeal directly to the Eldritch Progenitor.”
The dozens of late-stage Sovereign powerhouses exchanged glances, a deafening silence falling over them.
The Eldritch Progenitor? Who would dare disturb the Eldritch Progenitor over such a trivial matter?
Soon after, these Sovereigns departed one after another, leaving only Overlord Hou Jue, Sovereign Cang Feng, and Wu Yuan.
“Cang Feng, are you aware of the highest echelon’s orders?” Overlord Hou Jue turned to Sovereign Cang Feng.
Orders? A flicker of confusion passed through Wu Yuan’s eyes.
“I am,” Sovereign Cang Feng nodded.
“Do you have any objections?” Overlord Hou Jue inquired.
“None at all,” Sovereign Cang Feng grinned. “It is only fitting that the Overlords wish for Wu Yuan to remain in the Cang Feng Eldritch World and become its leader.”
He was more than willing. The other late-stage Sovereign powerhouses were dissatisfied because they could hardly gain any benefits from Wu Yuan. Without benefits, and feeling slighted, their discontent was natural. But Sovereign Cang Feng was different. He clearly understood the immense advantages both him and the Cang Feng Eldritch World would gain should Wu Yuan become an Overlord.
“Leader of the eldritch world?” Wu Yuan was taken aback.
“Yes, the leader of the Cang Feng Eldritch World,” Overlord Hou Jue looked at Wu Yuan.
“Since Sovereign Cang Feng has no objections, you are now the seventh Sovereign-level powerhouse of the Cang Feng Eldritch World, ranked second in authority. In the future, once you become a Sovereign, you will rise to first,” Overlord Hou Jue stated.
Second? First? Wu Yuan was stunned.
In the Cang Feng Eldritch World, the highest-ranking leader was naturally Sovereign Cang Feng. This meant that his status in the eldritch world would be second only to Sovereign Cang Feng? Wouldn’t that place him above Master Kua Chi? Wu Yuan had never imagined such a turn of events.
“Cang Feng, you may explain the matters of your eldritch world to Wu Yuan after he returns to the Cang Feng Eldritch World,” Overlord Hou Jue said. “I have more to discuss with Wu Yuan.”
“Understood.” Sovereign Cang Feng tactfully took his leave.
In this expanse of void, only Wu Yuan and Overlord Hou Jue remained.
“Did you sense it?” Overlord Hou Jue smiled at Wu Yuan.
“Some late-stage Sovereign powerhouses are displeased with me?” Wu Yuan said softly. Sometimes, words were not required to express displeasure; attitude alone was enough to reveal it.
“Indeed. They believe you’re unworthy of residing in the Myriad Rivers Realm,” Overlord Hou Jue smiled.
Wu Yuan’s pupils contracted slightly.
“The powerful are all proud, and the more powerful they are, the more pride they possess,” Overlord Hou Jue said. “They won’t deny your talent, but talent and strength are two different matters.
“This time, you’re certain to incur the displeasure of many Sovereigns. Do you have any thoughts on this?” Overlord Hou Jue asked with a smile.
“None whatsover,” Wu Yuan shook his head decisively.
“Oh?” A glimmer of surprise flashed in Overlord Hou Jue’s eyes.
“I understand the considerations of the Eldritch Progenitor and the Overlords when making this decision,” Wu Yuan smiled. “It’s to grant me more responsibility. If I can withstand the various pressures, I’ll be able to grow faster.”
Overlord Hou Jue nodded in satisfaction. Pressure was also a driving force. It was good that Wu Yuan could recognize and understand this.
“There’s no rush. You’ll be a High Eldritch for several hundred thousand years more,” Overlord Hou Jue said. “It will be good enough if you can gain the recognition of the various Sovereigns within a million years.”
“No!” Wu Yuan shook his head.
“No? Is a million years not enough time?” Overlord Hou Jue frowned slightly.
“A thousand years,” Wu Yuan uttered.
Overlord Hou Jue was taken aback.
“A thousand years?” Overlord Hou Jue couldn’t help but repeat, doubting her own ears.
“Overlord, if I possess the strength of a Sovereign, it should be enough to convince the others, right?” Wu Yuan smiled.
“When I return to the Ling Jiang Universe. I will begin preparations to break through to Astral Monarch.”
