Chapter 929: Giving My All
“You’re planning to break through so quickly? You’ve only cultivated for just over 30,000 years. Surely you could spend another several hundred thousand years in the High Eldritch phase,” Overlord Hou Jue frowned slightly.
“If you cultivate for longer in the mortal life stage, you might attain late-stage Sovereign power straight away when you finally break through.” She had mentioned a million years earlier because cultivators usually remained at the High Immortal phase for several hundred thousand years.
After the Megaverse Crossroads concluded, many of the top geniuses decided to advance to the Sovereign phase because most had already cultivated for several hundred thousand years, approaching the million-year lifespan limit.
But Wu Yuan was different. He had only cultivated for just over 30,000 years, still far from the million-year limit.
“It’s not necessary,” Wu Yuan shook his head.
Wu Yuan’s determination to break through stemmed from three reasons. First was the Spacetime Dao Master’s advice that he need not remain too long in the mortal stage.
Second, after merging with the Primordial Imprint and establishing a Great Dao Body, even if Wu Yuan broke through to become an Astral Monarch, it would hardly affect his comprehension of the Great Dao. The so-called Dao Assimilation usually referred to the Great Daos influencing other Daos.
Third, if he didn’t break through to Astral Monarch, Wu Yuan’s body refiner self wouldn’t be powerful enough to explore the Well of Life with confidence. During the black pagoda’s recent anomaly, it had specifically pushed him to visit it. He had to go.
“Although your Dao comprehension has reached the Dao Field stage, rivaling the Sovereign level, you haven’t fully grasped any Greater Law. Once you become an Astral Monarch, making further breakthroughs will only become more difficult,” Overlord Hou Jue frowned and said, “Why rush?”
To become a Sovereign, one had to fully grasp a Greater Law.“I understand, but I have my reasons for breaking through now,” Wu Yuan said.
He wished to venture to the Well of Life so that he could grasp the Law of Life as quickly as possible.
Seeing Wu Yuan’s firm attitude, Overlord Hou Jue frowned slightly, then seemed to think of something and sighed, her brow smoothing, “Very well, you can decide for yourself.”
Though she didn’t understand Wu Yuan’s decision, she didn’t stop him. This was because Eldritch Progenitor Luan Jiang had once sent her a message, informing her to let Wu Yuan make his own decisions when it came to cultivation. They could offer suggestions, but if opinions conflicted, she should respect Wu Yuan’s decisions.
It makes sense. He’s someone who claimed a Saintcrest in just thirty thousand years. Overlord Hou Jue thought to herself. Wu Yuan’s desire to break through quickly likely stems from his own considerations.
“Wu Yuan,” Overlord Hou Jue looked at Wu Yuan, “When we return to the Saintdom, we’ll establish your residence in the Saintdom headquarters. You can choose to dwell long-term in the headquarters or return to the Greenridge Macrocosm, it’s up to you.”
“Thank you, Overlord,” Wu Yuan nodded, his tension easing slightly.
If Overlord Hou Jue had pressed for answers, he would have struggled to explain.
…
Eldritch Court Voidrealm, the Cang Feng Plane.
This unremarkable plane within the Eldritch Court Voidrealm was actually a gathering place for the top powerhouses from the Cang Feng Eldritch World.
Today, the long-sealed Sovereign Temple opened silently.
Whoosh! A black-robed figure appeared out of thin air, his gaze falling on the majestic hall in the distance. So this is the Sovereign Temple?
Only Sovereigns from the Cang Feng Eldritch World had the right to come here. This was Wu Yuan’s first time here.
Just as Wu Yuan was lost in thought, a voice suddenly rang out, “Wu Yuan.”
It was soon followed by the appearance of a figure clad in animal skins, his aura vast and mighty.
“Master?” Wu Yuan’s eyes flashed with joy upon hearing the voice, turning quickly in delight.
It was none other than Sovereign Kua Chi.
“Disciple greets Master,” Wu Yuan bowed respectfully.
“No need for such formalities,” Master Kua Chi raised his hand to stop Wu Yuan, yet failed to lift him up.
They held the same rank, with equal authority and comparable power within the Eldritch Court Voidrealm.
Wu Yuan completed his bow with utmost reverence.
Though Sovereign Kua Chi tried to stop Wu Yuan’s formal greeting, he couldn’t suppress the warm smile that spread across his face when Wu Yuan finished the full bow.
In terms of status, Wu Yuan now surpassed him, yet he still showed such respect for his teacher. This naturally delighted Sovereign Kua Chi.
This was why many powerhouses prioritized character when taking disciples. What use was talent if one took on a disciple who betrayed or rebelled against their master?
“The last time I saw you was ten thousand years ago. Indeed, you’ve changed,” Sovereign Kua Chi remarked sincerely. He sensed the astonishing transformation in Wu Yuan’s demeanor, inside and out.
“It’s all thanks to Master’s excellent training,” Wu Yuan smiled.
“Haha, don’t flatter your master,” Master Kua Chi’s face bloomed into a full smile. “Alright, follow me inside. The other five Sovereigns should all be here.”
“Mm.” Wu Yuan nodded lightly.
“Don’t worry,” Sovereign Kua Chi laughed. “Though the Saintdom’s orders were somewhat abrupt, none of the other Sovereigns will object. Put your mind at ease. Come with me.”
Whoosh! Whoosh! Wu Yuan followed Sovereign Kua Chi, flying into the Sovereign Temple. Indeed, five figures were already inside, each radiating a vast and mighty aura.
Wu Yuan only recognized two – Sovereign Cang Feng and Sovereign Zi Yang. The other three were unfamiliar.
“Wu Yuan has arrived.”
“Kua Chi and Wu Yuan are here.” The five figures in the hall immediately turned to look, smiles on their faces.
Inside the hall, seven thrones of identical color hung suspended in the air. But two of the thrones were noticeably larger.
“Wu Yuan, come sit here,” Sovereign Cang Feng pointed to the throne beside him. The throne Sovereign Cang Feng sat on, and the one he indicated, were larger than the others.
“This?” Wu Yuan hesitated for a moment.
“Go ahead and sit,” Sovereign Kua Chi smiled. “Don’t mind it. We may be master and disciple, but that doesn’t affect our respective ranks within the Eldritch Court.”
Sovereign Kua Chi sat on one of the smaller thrones. Seeing this, Wu Yuan had no choice but to take his seat on the other large throne.
With this, all seven thrones were now occupied, and the entire Sovereign Temple subtly trembled, emitting invisible ripples.
“It’s been a long time since all of us have gathered,” Sovereign Cang Feng’s gaze swept over the other Sovereigns as he smiled. “Today, even Xuan Hong and Bei Guang have come.
“The reason for convening this Sovereign meeting is simple. Another Sovereign-level existence has emerged from our Cang Feng Eldritch World– Wu Yuan!” Sovereign Cang Feng looked at Wu Yuan.
Everyone else turned to look at Wu Yuan.
“Wu Yuan, let me introduce you. This is Sovereign Gu You, one of the four Sovereigns who regularly reside in our eldritch world,” Sovereign Cang Feng pointed to a withered-looking man on one of the thrones.
“Wu Yuan,” Sovereign Gu You’s voice was hoarse as he revealed a smile.
“Sovereign Gu You,” Wu Yuan nodded.
Of the six Sovereigns, Sovereign Cang Feng, Sovereign Zi Yang, Sovereign Kua Chi, and Sovereign Gu You resided permanently in the Cang Feng Eldritch World.
“This is Sovereign Xuan Hong, and this is Sovereign Bei Guang. They normally spend their time in quiet cultivation at the Saintdom headquarters,” Sovereign Cang Feng introduced.
Sovereign Xuan Hong wore Daoist robes, bearing a rather carefree air. He was handsome and wore a constant smile on his face.
Sovereign Bei Guang’s attire was all white, his demeanor otherworldly, with a distinct air of heroic spirit!
Wu Yuan exchanged glances with these two Sovereigns, both cupping their hands in greeting. With that, they were more or less acquainted.
“In terms of power, Wu Yuan ranks at the bottom among us seven. He doesn’t even have Sovereign strength yet, still being a mortal lifeform,” Sovereign Kua Chi said slowly. “But in terms of Dao comprehension, he’s already on par with us, a true Supreme Genius.
“As for potential, he is almost certainly destined to become an Overlord in the future. This is an unprecedented opportunity for our Cang Feng Eldritch World.”
Sovereign Gu You, Sovereign Xuan Hong, and the others couldn’t help but look at Wu Yuan, their eyes tinged with envy. They were all just ordinary Sovereigns, far from the Overlord level.
“Once Wu Yuan grows strong, destroying the Voltari Temple will be a piece of cake,” Sovereign Gu You smiled.
“It is only right and proper that Wu Yuan becomes the leader of the eldritch world,” Sovereign Xuan Hong said.
“I believe in Wu Yuan!” Sovereign Zi Yang smiled. “Once he unifies the macrocosm in the future, it will be a blessing for the countless lives in the eldritch world.”
There was no dissatisfaction or doubt in their minds. These eldritch world Sovereigns were filled solely with anticipation.
Though Sovereign Xuan Hong and Sovereign Bei Guang resided long-term at the Saintdom headquarters, it didn’t mean they were not involved with the affairs of the eldritch world. They went there mostly for the sake of cultivation.
“Wu Yuan,” Sovereign Cang Feng looked at Wu Yuan. “The eldritch world’s resources are limited and still under the Saintdom’s jurisdiction. Even though we are Sovereigns, we cannot take resources at will. But we will do our utmost to help you within our capabilities.
“Earlier, we have come to an agreement and retrieved personal resources equivalent to about twelve high-grade Dao Instruments. Of course, this is referring to the most common type of high-grade Dao Instruments,” Sovereign Cang Feng said.
“The corresponding eldritch merits have all been transferred to your name. You can exchange them for equivalent cultivation resources in the Saintdom.”
The other Sovereigns all nodded in agreement.
“Eldritch merits worth twelve high-grade Dao Instruments?” Wu Yuan was taken aback. With a thought, he immediately checked his account. Indeed, he found he had received a rather substantial amount of eldritch merits.
“This!” Wu Yuan immediately shook his head. “Esteemed Sovereigns, I cannot accept such treasures without having done anything to earn them.”
The total value of twelve high-grade Dao Instruments wasn’t even worth a significant fraction of a Xiantian artifact. But the significance differed.
Among the Sovereigns of the Cang Feng Eldritch World, aside from Sovereign Cang Feng, the others were merely ordinary Sovereigns with limited power and resources. Producing twelve high-grade Dao Instruments in one go was already astonishing.
“Wu Yuan, take them,” Sovereign Kua Chi suddenly said. “This is a gesture from all the Sovereigns. There isn’t much else we can help you with.”
“Indeed, Wu Yuan,” Sovereign Zi Yang smiled as well. “It is a great fortune for the eldritch world to have produced a prodigy as extraordinary as you.”
“These treasures would only marginally increase our strength, certainly not enough to destroy the Voltari Temple,” Sovereign Gu You said softly. “For you, it’s different. You’re growing rapidly now, and you’ll need various resources.”
The Sovereigns spoke one after another.
Wu Yuan found it impossible to refuse, especially since he truly needed more cultivation resources. The Samsara Sword’s Dao resonance was formidable, but it devoured resources like a bottomless pit.
“Very well, I shall accept. My thanks to all the Sovereigns,” Wu Yuan took a deep breath and solemnly declared, “I also promise that I will spare no effort to annihilate the Voltari Temple in the future.”
Over eons, too much hatred had accumulated between the two factions. These Sovereigns had lost countless disciples to the Voltari Temple. Even Wu Yuan had survived assassination attempts.
Even without his promise to the eldritch world Sovereigns, Wu Yuan would have devoted himself to destroying the Voltari Temple in the future.
Time flowed on.
The Sovereigns discussed other internal affairs of the eldritch world, such as resource allocation and nurturing of prodigies. Wu Yuan merely listened, offering no opinions.
Finally, as the meeting concluded and the Sovereigns departed one by one, Sovereign Kua Chi left the Sovereign Temple with Wu Yuan.
“When will you return?” Sovereign Kua Chi inquired.
“For the foreseeable future, my ether body will return occasionally, but my true self will likely remain in the Saintdom headquarters to cultivate. It’s safer there,” Wu Yuan replied.
Eldritch Progenitor Hou Tu had promised that no one at or above the supreme level would make any moves against Wu Yuan. But what about those below the supreme?
If Wu Yuan stayed in the Cang Feng Eldritch World and the Immortal Court suddenly dispatched a group of Overlords to assassinate him, they might succeed in killing him. Given the potential Wu Yuan demonstrated, it was entirely worth it for the Immortal Court to do so. Wu Yuan naturally had to be cautious.
“Mm, that’s wise,” Sovereign Kua Chi nodded. “The core of the Saintdom is indeed far safer. Even a group of Overlords joining forces wouldn’t be able to pose a direct threat to you there.
“By the way, since you’ll be away from the macrocosm for a long time, we should assign some Astral Monarchs to your command,” Sovereign Kua Chi said. “Do you have any preferred candidates?”
“Astral Monarchs?” Wu Yuan was slightly taken aback and shook his head. He barely knew any Astral Monarchs, let alone had any preferred candidates.
“Haha, no matter. I have an idea,” Sovereign Kua Chi smiled.
…
Soon after, within Wu Yuan’s newly established Sovereign-level plane in the Cang Feng Eldritch Voidrealm…
Every Sovereign of the eldritch world possessed an individual plane and had extremely high authority, each representing a major faction of the eldritch world. Now, Wu Yuan also owned such a plane.
Whoosh~ A towering figure clad in black battle armor appeared out of thin air. He gazed down at the vast world below. The halls were all newly erected, and guards had yet to be deployed.
A Sovereign? The eldritch world’s newly ascended Sovereign-level powerhouse? The future leader of the eldritch world? Astral Monarch Hou Qu muttered to himself. Who could it be? Sovereign Kua Chi didn’t even tell me.
As he hesitated, more figures appeared out of thin air, nearly a hundred in total. Each exuded an extraordinary aura, with several even rivaling Astral Monarch Hou Qu, clearly all late-stage Astral Monarchs.
“Hou Qu? You’re here?”
“Long Bei, you’re here too?” The Astral Monarchs immediately began conversing, all having been teleported here instantaneously. They were all visiting this place for the first time.
“Let’s go.”
“The eldritch world has ordered us to pay a visit to the newly ascended Sovereign and obey their commands,” Astral Monarch Hou Qu said in a low voice. “This is also an opportunity. A newly ascended Sovereign surely doesn’t have many Astral Monarchs under him. We should be the first batch to pledge allegiance.”
“Indeed. If we can gain the Sovereign’s favor, it would be a great boon,” Astral Monarch Long Bei agreed.
Among the nearly hundred Astral Monarchs present, these two subtly took the lead.
The Cang Feng Eldritch World had no shortage of Astral Monarchs, each affiliated with a Sovereign. However, there were too many Astral Monarchs for the Sovereigns to manage, so most were left to their own devices.
But a newly ascended Sovereign was different. As the first batch of followers, they could easily gain the Sovereign’s trust and truly rely on the Sovereign as their patron.
At the very least, if an ordinary Astral Monarch was able to seek an audience with the Sovereign at will, then even other late-stage Astral Monarch powerhouses would be unwilling to provoke them.
Moreover, except for Astral Monarch Hou Qu and a few others, most of the Astral Monarchs here had previously been overlooked by their Sovereign superiors.
“Let’s go to the temple.”
“Hurry!” The Astral Monarchs immediately flew in an orderly manner toward the majestic temple in the distance.
At the far end of the temple, upon a throne, sat a figure draped in black robes. As soon as these Astral Monarchs entered, they immediately sensed his boundless and domineering presence that saturated the temple.
“We pay our respects to the Sovereign,” the Astral Monarchs bowed respectfully, not daring to raise their heads.
Only Astral Monarch Hou Qu’s eyes flashed with a hint of surprise. The aura of the figure on the throne seemed somewhat familiar.
Could it be? Astral Monarch Hou Qu’s mind was filled with disbelief.
