Rex crossed his arms with a hand rubbing his chin.
Standing robustly in front of him was the Obelisk of Life which stood like a celestial spear, piercing the heavens. Its towering form was sculpted from magical stone that shimmered with a deep emerald glow, one that sparkled even through the thick darkness of the Black Rift.
At its base, massive roots sprawled outward, waving through the land for miles.
Even though the life energy coming out from it was dense enough, it should be a lot denser.
Judging by the occasional flickers of the roots—and the fact that more than three-quarters had already withered away, the severity of the problem was undeniable. Its life energy was nearly depleted, and if it continued sustaining the two bubbles, it likely wouldn’t last another day.
Since both bubbles were shattered, it could still linger on its last thread of life energy.
“It’s laughably weak now,” Amanir commented from behind. “It should be a Needle”
“Needle?” Rex glanced over and asked. “What do you mean, Needle?”
“In the Spirit Realm, all lands—empires, kingdoms, and cities depended on an Obelisk of Life. At least, ever since the Black Rift descended on us,” Amanir explained—as he walked closer. “Depending on the density and purity of the life energy it emitted, an Obelisk of Life is placed into one of five classes. Needle is the lowest of the low—and it could only last less than five hundred years, followed by Spire, Gate, Citadel, and lastly, Sanctuary”
“A Citadel-class Obelisk of Life backed the Imperial Bubble and it would essentially never run out of life energy. Comparing that to this, was a stretch. I know that a Needle class existed—but I’ve never seen one before” He added, looking at the Obelisk of Life ahead in pity.
Hearing this, Rex frowned.
From his point of view, the density of this one was already wearing down on him.
So he was surprised to hear Amanir saying that this was the weakest class.
“How strong is a Citadel class?” Rex mumbled aloud.
Amanir chuckled, his massive ears flapping up and down rhythmically, “If it’s a Citadel class, your body would’ve exploded from getting too close. Even the Emperor could only get—as close as ten miles from it”
“Ten miles…?” Rex sucked in a cold breath. “Now I’m curious”
Linthia also gasped in surprise while Kraken tried to mimic their expressions but failed miserably.
“No need to fret about it, you’d see it soon enough if you marry Princess Davina,” Amanir chimed.
At that point, Rex would be a noble by default and he would get a mansion inside the Imperial Bubble.
“Marry?” Linthia tilted her head in confusion, she hadn’t heard about this before.
“It’s nothing,” Rex waved his hand hurriedly, wanting to change the topic as he didn’t want to have that conversation right now although he’d soon have to. “Wait here for a second, I want to test if I can do it again like earlier”
As Rex said that, he slowly morphed back into his Werewolf form and approached the Obelisk of Life.
From the battle earlier, he found two new ways to become stronger a lot faster than normal.
Killing and amassing Nightfall Stars is fast enough but he needed to be faster.
And now he found two ways to do it.
First, he could go around and search for a special Voidal Knight that could drop a Life Gem.
Having all three of his Soul Artifacts above SSS grade allowed his body to contain hundreds of times more life energy than normal Spirits. Other than allowing him to be immensely stronger—than those at the same rank, it also enabled him to absorb Life Gem which others deemed impossible to do.
Just like earlier, he was able to siphon almost all life energy from the Life Gem.
Now that he reached the Immortal Spirit rank at one of his Soul Artifacts, he should be able to handle absorbing a Life Gem than before. Perhaps, he would not need to risk his life like earlier but there was a problem.
He didn’t know if the actual thing would be as easy and whether finding a special Voidal Knight would be easy.
Not to mention, there was also the Father Dominator problem.
Bearing killing intent to the Voidal Prince, the dragon snake that powerful woman was fighting several days ago attracted Father Dominator’s attention. It was now keeping tabs on him even though he didn’t know how.
A Voidal Prince should be in a higher position, than a Voidal Knight. Do the Voidal Monsters act like a beehive? Any associated monsters, be it Voidal Pawns, Knights, or Princes have a connection with the Queen or something, and killing them also alerted the Queen?
Rex didn’t know the answer to that question but he soon would be.
<Gold: 3,711,000>
Slaughtering the Arcalen and Narsa House provided him with a lot of gold.
Once he reached five million gold, he would be able to purchase the information about Voidal Monsters.
As for the second way, he was attempting it right now.
“Rex, are you absolutely out of your mind?” Amanir called him from behind once he realized what Rex was trying to do. “You idiot, that’s still an Obelisk of Life! A Life Gem is only like a mini version of an Obelisk of Life! Even if it’s almost dead, you can’t possibly handle it! Try it and you’ll be fried!”
“Relax… I got this,” Rex ignored the warning and leaped onto the Obelisk of Life.
He landed on its base and could feel the seemingly endless, extremely pure life energy under his feet.
Gazing ahead, he saw a separation at the center where a reverse waterfall of life energy, floating upward to the spherical orb at the very top. Rex needed to leap a couple of times to reach it, and when he did, he stretched his hand and scanned it with the System.
<Notice: Chances of surviving is 95%>
Upon reading the notification, Rex smirked, “See? It’s going to be fine”
As soon as he reached his hand to the reverse waterfall of life energy, it instantly latched onto him.
“Hmm…?” Rex tilted his head as the flow stopped and his hand was stuck.
In the next second, his pupils dilated.
Boom!!
Out of nowhere, an explosion happened as Rex was thrown away—flying over the others.
“Rex!”
Linthia exclaimed as she watched Rex fly in the air for a couple of seconds and then landed roughly.
However, before she could run to check, Rex already raised his thumbs.
“I’m fine,” He shouted assuringly. “I’m totally fine!”
As Linthia was worried, Amanir and Kraken were cackling at the sight.
Just like Amanir told Rex earlier, the Obelisk of Life is not something to play with even if he has strong Soul Artifacts. Even when it was on the brink of dying, it was still too strong for Rex, shoving him away like a ragdoll.
But as Rex sat up, there was a smile on his face.
He raised his right hand and showed the massive amount of life energy that he had amassed.
Amanir choked when he saw this, “Of course he did it…”
Even though Rex was shocked that an Obelisk of Life that was almost dead was still too much for him, he was still able to get the rest of the life energy inside of it. Like Amanir said, it’s really not a joke. Its life energy didn’t flow naturally into me. All of it did instantaneously.
If Rex wasn’t ready, his Spiritual Veins would be severely wounded.
Fortunately, he was ready but this proved that Obelisk of Life was still out of the menu for him.
Maybe when I reached the Eternal Spirit rank? I don’t know.
Instead of heading back to the others, Rex turned around.
He still had one more thing he needed to check, it was the spot where the Three-faced Leecher died.
Upon arriving there, Rex knelt down and leaned to see through the crack there.
Earlier, Istvan’s spear pierced them both cleanly and stabbed them into the ground, creating this crack.
Rex saw a glimpse of something inside the crack, it looked like a spacious crypt, and he was wondering if it was a hidden treasury belonging to the Arcalen House, or something. Instead of peeking through it, he shoved his hands into the crack and made it wider.
Once the crack was big enough, he leaped down into the crypt.
As soon as he hit the floor, the sound of his landing echoed inside the spacious crypt.
“So dark, even my eyes couldn’t see through the darkness properly,” Rex mumbled aloud.
Just as he said that, however, blue torches began lighting up one by one.
Rex followed the torches with his eyes and without realizing it, he was facing to his behind and there he saw something enormous above some sort of an altar. He blinked his eyes, making sure what he was seeing was real before he gasped.
He approached the altar and realized that it was a dragon, a sea dragon.
It has thick, deep azure rock skin, a powerful flowing energy that could be seen pulsating inside through the cracks across its form—and also a sharp dorsal fin riddled with thorns, stating that it was a violent beast.
Rex tried approaching closer but stopped when he hit an invisible barrier.
<Notice: the user has entered the Crypt of the Sea>
Upon reading the notification, Rex tilted his head, “Is that thing Arcalenta?”
He made that guess because of the Nine-Kindred Dragon Echo.
Quoting from the System itself, an Echo could be found in a special area, groomed—by a dedicated entity, granted by Gods, or taken from others. Since Garvain and Istvan have a Nine-Kindred Echo, Rex was thinking that their House took those Echoes from this thing.
And since they possessed the bloodline of Arcalenta, this dragon must be Arcalenta.
A powerful spirit beast that got subjugated in the past and now was in a slumber.
Rex reached out his hand again to the barrier and scanned it.
“System, is there any way I could go through this barrier?” He asked.
<Scanning…>
<Notice: Yes, the user must possess the three Nine-Kindred Echoes, Flame-type, Sea-type, and Gravity-type, and then infuse enough life energy to awaken the dragon from its eternal slumber. The amount of life energy is beyond the user’s capacity at this moment>
Despite the answer, Rex was already smiling ear-to-ear as it was possible.
He didn’t care about the Echoes, not really—what he wanted was to turn this dragon into a Werewolf.
It’ll be a great addition to my pack, and it could also get close to Ryze.
Shaking his head, Rex then asked again, “All three Echoes, can I extract it from their corpses?”
<Yes, the user can extract the Flame-type and Sea-type from their corpses>
Reading this, Rex couldn’t help but frown, “What about the Gravity-type? Where is it?”
The System didn’t answer.
But this was answer enough for Rex.
From the looks of it, someone has the gravity type and he needed to find that person to get the dragon.
Just then, he realized something, “If I could extract the Echoes, what’s good is devouring the corpses?”
Rex recalled the time when he devoured the snake dragon piece by piece—so that he could also absorb the Echo contained within it. Back then, he got a fraction of the Deep Sea Echo. So if he could extract the Echo, what use of this innate devouring ability?
If what was in his mind was correct then it’s absolutely useless.
But he was wrong.
<Notice: Absorbing a portion of the Echo will result in a smoother extraction process>
“Ah…” Rex nodded his head repeatedly. “So that’s how it is”
As expected, the system or his bloodline will always provide something useful for him.
<Killing Intent completed!>
<Sudden Quest completed!>
Just then, two notifications appeared suddenly.
Seeing this, Rex spat in disgust, “So you finally died, Selvaris—took you a while”
Rex wanted to check his rewards but he stopped when he noticed a powerful aura approaching.
And it wasn’t Voidal Monsters but two people instead!
“Shit,” He cursed, turning around and leaping out of the crypt. “I need to get out of here quickly”
He wasted no time and headed back to the others.
However, oblivious to him, dark energy covered the crack to the crypt and closed it up again.
