A battle between Immortal Spirits would undoubtedly garner attention.
Rex has been so preoccupied with his haul and the destruction of both Dragna Sea and Dragna Land that he forgot he needed to leave this place fast. Powerful Voidal Monsters might be lured by the scent of life energy and worse, other people might also be lured.
It would be a problem if Rex became a criminal in this world.
Climbing out of the crypt, he instantly ran back to the others while scanning the horizon.
System, scan the surroundings for anything that is approaching my position. I don’t need to care about weak Voidal Monstes so filter them out but don’t exclude anyone who were spirits. Also, calculate the distance from them to me.
Oh, don’t scan their stats—just their positions.
<Affirmative.>
Once his instruction was set, Rex narrowed his eyes as two stat windows appeared in the distance.
Both were spirits—people, and they were about ten miles away and quickly approaching.
“Shit!” Rex cursed as he quickened his pace.
It would take about a minute or so before those two arrived at his position.
Rex leaped over the lines of corpses, his gaze sweeping the battlefield as he spotted Linthia, Amanir, and Kraken searching for him in different directions. Raising a hand to signal to them, he drew in a breath to cold out.
But before the words left his lips, a glint of cold sheen flickered in his peripheral vision.
Almost instantly, Rex reacted—catching the object with his hand.
“Did they arrive already?!” He exclaimed once he realized that it was a knife.
Snapping his head towards those two figures’ direction, he found that they hadn’t arrived yet.
More importantly, those two also didn’t notice him yet.
But that begged the question, who threw this knife?
Rex looked down at the knife in confusion—there was nobody around and no trail of energy.
Even the System’s scan showed that it was nothing more than a regular, enchanted knife.
“Who threw this?” Rex murmured but quickly shook his head—he had no time to contemplate in this situation. Raising his gaze, he continued onward and called out loudly “Linthia! Amanir! We need to leave right now!
Hearing his voice, the others quickly gathered.
Not wasting a single second, Rex and Linthia grabbed hold of Amanir’s ears and flew away.
Kraken was on top of Amanir, wrapping its tentacle arms around his body.
“Amanir, move faster, damn it!” Rex complained as they were only a tad bit faster than him running on foot right now. “We need to get out of here as soon as possible! There are two people behind us. We destroyed practically two houses—and have a Voidal Monster who is the kid of a special Voidal Knight with us. If those two catch us, we’re in big trouble!”
“I’m trying!” Amanir refuted. “Instead of complaining, give me something to boost me”
Rex quickly asked for a recommendation from the System and bought the Feather Necklace.
He took it from the inventory and wrapped it around Amanir’s right ear.
Swish!
Almost instantly, the necklace with a feather-shaped pendant glowed—and boosted their speed by two times. Pleased by their speed as they were now much faster, Rex checked the two figures behind them and frowned.
“What…?” Rex mumbled in confusion. “They are following us?”
Instead of heading to the Dragna Land and Dragna Sea, the two figures made a sudden turn.
Now they were heading to Rex’s position still.
“What should we do?” Linthia asked, she began to increasingly panic since Rex was also panicking.
Clearing his throat, Rex calmed himself down before his eyes widened when he saw the diamond glow that hovered above them. It was Linthia’s Seeker Flare, “Deactivate your Seeker Flare right now, I think we were tracked because of that”
“But we’ll be hit by the Black Rift hard if I take it down,” Linthia argued.
She saw what happened to Rex back then, the Voidal Metamorphosis.
She was scared that Rex would turn into a Voidal Monster.
“No need to worry,” Rex cast her an assuring gaze before turning to Kraken meaningfully.
Unlike the other two, who were frantic with worry, Kraken was reveling in the moment—its skin tingling, as the wind swept over it. From the sheer delight in its expression, Rex could only assume the sensation was akin to his own experience of basking under the moonlight for the first time.
Realizing what Rex meant, Linthia nodded and quickly took down her Seeker Flare.
She closed her eyes and dispersed the inner heat that she accumulated inside her heart.
Once the heat was completely dispersed, the diamond glow above them vanished.
Kraken exclaimed even louder with both arms raised when it felt the black wind’s rush become stronger.
Just as that happened, Rex turned to look at his behind again and saw the two figures stopped mid-track, it seemed to be working. A solid ten seconds passed and the distance between them and the two figures grew to more than three miles.
But then, his eyes widened when one of the figures darted forward with incredible speed.
It was an abrupt move that caught Rex off guard.
“Look!” Linthia pointed at a shining light catching up behind them. “What is that?!”
Rex tilted his head before his face darkened, “Is that a Seeker Flare?”
“A Seeker Flare? Really?!” Linthia gasped as her eyes widened. “It’s at least reached half a mile!”
Seekers are gifted Spirits who could stave off the Black Rift’s darkness, a mandatory person in anything that involved venturing into the Black Rift. Linthia was one of them, and with the Diamond Flare that Amanir gave to her which was a Royal Seeker Technique, her Seeker Flare reached a hundred meters.
Even though this was all new to her, the bubble created by her Seeker Flare reached that far.
Just to show how powerful a Royal Seeker Technique actually was.
However, the Seeker Flare of whoever was chasing after them was as big as half a mile.
It was as if the figure was a mobile bubble stem from an Obelisk of Life.
And compared to their speed, this figure was still faster.
“Go down,” Rex mused before he blinked, realizing that the light was getting closer. “Dive right now!”
Upon hearing this Amanir quickly dove down and went behind a massive boulder to the side.
Once the four of them arrived there, Rex put Kraken down on the ground and knelt down to match its level, “Kraken, can you use that energy you used on me earlier? But this time, use it to make a small bubble—big enough to cover us”
Since Rex engraved it with a Knowledge and Wisdom Rune, Kraken must be able to understand him.
Despite being a baby, it certainly could understand him.
Looking at it directly, Kraken turned its face to the side and spat.
Pteuh!
It was a failed spit, only drizzling saliva down to its chin but its intention was clear—it wanted to spit.
Rex was stunned when he saw this, he was at an utter loss for words.
“Did he just spit?” He looked at Amanir for confirmation.
Amanir smiled acutely, “A baby learned fast from seeing, did you spit in front of it earlier?”
Naturally, Rex’s mind instantly traveled back to when he spit in disgust because of Selvaris.
Somehow, Kraken must’ve seen him doing that and decided to try it.
Or maybe—it doesn’t like something but he doesn’t have any idea how to understand Kraken.
Just then, Linthia intervened, “Sorry to interrupt but the Seeker Flare is getting closer,”
Snapping from trance, Rex focused on Kraken again, “Please? Can you make it for me?”
Rex couldn’t believe that he was saying this but he had no other choice.
At this moment, Kraken was the only one who could help.
“I can see the edge already!” Linthia exclaimed. “We’re going to be caught!”
“Change into your Werewolf form, it liked it earlier,” Amanir suggested.
Not even doubting his words, Rex turned into his Werewolf form and asked Kraken again, “Please?”
Giggling happily, Kraken’s body began to sizzle with black energy, and with a gentle push, it created a very small bubble that could barely sustain all four of them. Rex pulled Linthia into the bubble while Amanir squeezed himself into it, forcing himself to fit inside.
Swoosh!
Immediately as the four were cramped inside the bubble, the Black Rift was dispersed.
A woman could be seen flying past them, continuing ahead without glancing down at them.
She has long, flowing purple hair, and from the aura she was emanating—she’s at least an Eternal Spirit.
Just from her regal attire and demeanor, she certainly came from royalty.
Belong to a stronger house than the Arcalen House.
Rex sighed in relief as he watched the woman continue ahead.
Since she must’ve sensed a small trace of Linthia’s Seeker Flare, she was searching for any sign of life energy. On top of suppressing their life energy, Kraken’s void energy bubble wiped their trace entirely so the woman has no need to glance down at them.
For her senses, they were nothing more than another Voidal Monster within the Black Rift.
Once the reaches of her Seeker Flare were away, Rex and the others could finally step out of the bubble.
“Thanks,” Rex rubbed Kraken’s head before turning to the others. “Come on, let’s go this way”
Instead of following that woman’s path, the four went away from her.
Now that the Arcalen House was destroyed, they needed to find another bubble to take refuge in.
Perhaps, another house that is more sensible and could nominate me to the Nameless Dragon Arena.
…
Moments later, back in what was once the Arcalen House’s bubble.
A figure hovered above the destruction and gore with an evident frown.
Davina floated with a sword in hand, a spare that was provided for her by the Ravencort House when she hurried to check out the crumbling Obelisk of Life. As the Duke’s second daughter, she had a huge land to oversee and this part was still under her jurisdiction.
Looking down at the painting of corpses below with her emerald, glowing eyes—her face twitched.
She wasn’t expecting to find this when she arrived.
Initially, she expected to find a House that needed her help to secure a Life Gem.
Something like that was nothing for her and in this era of declining numbers of Spirits and the surging numbers of Voidal Monsters, she opted to help those in need, especially those who are within her own territory like this one.
“The Arcalen House, a third-rate house. I knew about them but never been here,” She mumbled.
Glancing to the side, Davina saw the dead Obelisk of Life.
“At least I’m right about something,” She sighed before turning her gaze back to the field of corpses. “A civil war happened here, because of the Obelisk of Life’s exhaustion certainly. Finding corpses after a war is natural but who is the sick bastard that did this? This is not the work of Voidal Monsters”
Clearly, there was something wrong as both lands were completely destroyed.
Davina’s eyes then locked onto a person at the center of the chaos.
He was so exhausted and powerless that his presence was minuscule now.
Gracefully, she descended from the sky and landed in front of Eiran who was still rooted in his spot.
“The one who caused all of this, speak his name,” Davina demanded.
But she received no answer, Eiran didn’t even glance at her.
Although he didn’t answer her, he was mumbling something—it was barely audible.
Davina approached closer and leaned down towards Eiran to hear what he was mumbling about.
A frown crept to her face when she heard his mumble but at the same time, another person landed behind her. Davina turned around and saw Mira—she decided to accompany Davina when she heard of a house that needed help.
“I sensed a Seeker nearby so it must be a group that did this but I failed to track them,” Mira reported.
Upon hearing this, Davina nodded her head.
She cast a glance back at Eiran before she said, “Go and find out about this man and anyone that goes by the name of Selvaris and Rex. He kept repeating those, so they must be names. For now, that’s the lead we have. I will find the criminals who were responsible for this”
